Shubhanshu Shukla's Axiom Mission Postponed Due To Glitch At Space Station

A glitch on the International Space Station, where astronauts of the Axiom-4 mission would spend 14 days, has postponed the lift-off to space. Earlier, four postponements on the Axiom 4 mission were reported due to weather and technical problems on the Falcon 9 rocket.
The glitch at the International Space Station, where NASA says "A pressure signature" on the Russian module has been noticed, is the next cause of the delay.
What NASA Said
"NASA and Axiom Space are postponing the launch of Axiom Mission 4 to the International Space Station. As part of an ongoing investigation, NASA is working with Roscosmos to understand a new pressure signature, after the recent post-repair effort in the aft most segment of the International Space Station's Zvezda service module," NASA said in a statement.
"Cosmonauts aboard the space station recently performed inspections of the pressurized module's interior surfaces, sealed some additional areas of interest, and measured the current leak rate. Following this effort, the segment now is holding pressure. The postponement of Axiom Mission 4 provides additional time for NASA and Roscosmos to evaluate the situation and determine whether any additional troubleshooting is necessary. NASA defers to Roscosmos to answer specific questions about the Zvezda module," they said.
"A new launch date for the fourth private astronaut mission will be provided once available."
"Peggy Whitson, former NASA astronaut and director of human spaceflight at Axiom Space, will command the commercial mission, while ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla will serve as pilot. The two mission specialists are ESA (European Space Agency) project astronaut Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary."
"The crew will lift off aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft on Falcon 9 from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida," NASA said.
Yesterday, the mission was deferred for the fourth time, due to a technical glitch in its Falcon 9 rocket that is being used for the launch.
Fuel Leak Issue And ISRO
It is unclear whether SpaceX resolved the fuel leak issue on the rocket or is still working to repair it. A leak of liquid oxygen (LoX) was detected, and SpaceX was working to fix it.
ISRO had objected to the 'band-aid' like solution being offered by SpaceX. Indian space agency played a big role in making sure the launch is postponed till the oxygen leak is fixed on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to ISRO's full satisfaction.
ISRO chairman Dr V Narayanan told NDTV, "He was happy with the decision to postpone flight on June 11, 2025, as human crew were involved and safety was paramount."
The ISS has a contingent of seven global crew members onboard, with a Japanese astronaut as the commander of the station. The ISS is a football field-sized orbiting laboratory inhabited by humans continuously for the last 25 years.
Axiom-4 Mission
The Axiom-4 mission is a commercial space flight being spearheaded by a Houston-based private company, Axiom Space. India has purchased a seat on the Axiom-4 mission at the cost Rs 550 crores and so, India has a full stake in ensuring the safety of its own astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and the other crew members from US, Hungary, and Poland he is piloting on a 14-day mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
There are many opportunities till June 30 this year, when the Axiom-4 mission can still lift off, and further, there could be opportunities in the middle of July. Subsequently, the traffic to the International Space Station would be high.

NASA clarified that Ms Peixoto is neither an astronaut candidate nor is she affiliated with the space agency. "While we generally do not comment on personnel, this individual is not a NASA employee, principal investigator, or astronaut candidate," NASA said, per Daily Mail. The space agency also said the Brazilian woman had taken part in a workshop, L'Space Academy, with NASA that wasn't an internship or a job. "It would be inappropriate to claim NASA affiliation as part of this opportunity," the agency stated. Separately, Titan Space, a private company yet to receive Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for human spaceflight, acknowledged Ms Peixoto's association but confirmed she is not on the official list of astronauts for its 2029 inaugural mission. Amidst this, Ms Peixoto returned to Instagram on Thursday to address NASA and Titans Space statements. She said she never claimed to have been selected by the American space agency, and that she was only wearing a NASA space jacket in the photo. "Maybe many of you didn't get a chance to read what I said when I announced 'I'm going to space,' just the title. The text is available here, and in it, I mention WHO selected me, and I mention that it's a PRIVATE space program," she said. At no time is there a mention of NASA or that she would be an astronaut for the agency. The post was never edited," Ms Peixoto's agent said. However, the New York Post noted that an "edited" label is attached to Ms Peixoto's post, but there is no indication of what had been changed. Ms Peixot's academic background has also been questioned after her now-deleted LinkedIn page claimed she worked at NASA when she was 19, was a fellow at the German nonprofit Max Planck Society, enrolled in an engineering course at MIT and had a master's degree from Columbia University. But Columbia University has reportedly said that there is no record of her. These revelations have further undermined her credibility and fuelled scepticism surrounding her space aspirations.

ISRO working with NASA, Axiom, SpaceX to address AX-4 mission to ISS piloted by Indian astronaut
Chennai, June 13 (UNI) The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday said it was working with Axiom Space, NASA and SpaceX to address the technical glitch--leakage of LOX fuel--that led to the deferment of Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) piloted by decorated Indian astronaut Subhanshu Shukla, carrying the hopes and dreams of billions and conducted seven key microgravity experiments ISRO said Safety and mission integrity remain its top priorities. In a post on X, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan said "ISRO is working closely with Axiom Space, NASA, SpaceX as they responsibly address the ISS Zvezda module observation causing the Ax-4 delay. Safety and mission integrity remain our top priorities." The launch was scheduled to take off to ISS on a 14-day docking at ISS involving four crew members from India, US, Hungary and Poland, but was deferred after the LOX leak was detected during post static fibre booster inspections. After addressing the glitch, the fresh launch dates would be announced SpaceX and Axiom said and that the launch window availability was still available till June end and July. This is ISRO first mission in over 40 years and Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will be India's second national astronaut to go to space since 1984 after Rakesh Sharma in 1984. The launch originally targeted on May 29, 2025 was deferred due to observation in electrical harness in Crew Dragon Module, to June 8, 2025 The launch was postponed by one day to June 09, 2025 due to delay in preparedness of the Falcon 9 vehicle for the launch from Florida. The launch date was further postpone to June 10, 2025, due to unfavourable weather in the ascent corridor. Additional observation of oxygen leakage in the engine bay was observed during the preparation for hot fire test conducted on June 08, 2025. Moreover, there was an observation of an anomaly in one of the engine actuator which was replaced along with the controller. Anticipating the quick resolution of LOX leak issue, the launch was rescheduled to June 11, 2025. During the appraisal of technical issues by Axiom & SpaceX to ISRO delegation on June 10, 2025, ISRO recommended to carry out in-situ repairs or replacement and conduct a low-temperature leak test to validate system performance and integrity, before proceeding with launch clearance. On June 11, 2025, NASA informed that they are working with Roscosmos to evaluate a new pressure signature indicating a leak in the aft most segment of the ISS Zvezda Russian service module, after the recent repair attempt. In order to assess the situation and determine the need for further troubleshooting, the launch of Axiom-4 mission is being postponed.
