Simhachalam wall collapse: Seven officials suspended
In addition to Simhachalam EO, temple EE DG Srinivasa Raju, AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) EE K Ramana, Simhachalam temple Deputy EE KSN Murthy, APTDC Deputy EE AVBLR Swamy, APTDC AC P Madan Mohan and Simhachalam temple JE K Babji were suspended. A three-member inquiry committee appointed to investigate the incident submitted its report to the State government on Monday.
Based on the committee's report, the government not only suspended the officials but also decided to blacklist the contractor and initiate criminal proceedings against the contractor and two of the officials.

A.P. police bust fake websites racket, two arrested in Rajasthan
The Bapatla district police arrested two persons hailing from Rajasthan on charges of creating fake websites of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) and major temples in the State. As many as 127 complaints have been registered in 18 States against the accused and they had allegedly duped people of around ₹50 lakh, said Bapatla Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi. The accused, identified as Paramjeet and Bittu, natives of Sahasan village in Deeg district of Rajasthan, allegedly created fake websites of Tirumala Tirupati Devastanams (TTD), Srisailam and Trimkeshwar temple and cheated devotees, the SP told the media on Friday (August 1, 2025). The cyber fraudsters also deceived many tourists by creating fake website on APTDC, private resorts and resorted to online frauds by booking rooms. The accused were wanted in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Delhi, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu and other States, Mr. Tushar said. Acting on a complaint lodged by the manager of Haritha Resorts of Suryalanka in Bapatla district that a fake website titled 'Haritha Beach Resort Suryalanka' has been created and many tourists visiting the beach with fake bookings, the police registered a case. A team led by Bapatla Rural Circle Inspector Srinivas Rao and Reserve Inspector Srikanth arrested the accused in Rajasthan, and seized mobile phones, SIM cards and other material. The accused were produced in a court at Kaman in Rajasthan and brought to Andhra Pradesh on a Prisoner Transit Warrant. They were also produced before the court in Bapatla district, the SP said. The court allowed two-day police custody of the accused and they were being questioned. Further investigation is on, the SP added.

Naidu to lay foundation for grand Gandikota tourism project
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh is gearing up to boost tourism and attract large-scale investments through key initiatives unveiled by state tourism, culture, and cinematography minister Kandula Durgesh on Wednesday. Speaking to the media at Nidadavolu, minister outlined the govt's upcoming plans to transform the tourism sector and draw in industrial investments. On Friday, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for a prestigious 78-crore Gandikota tourism project in YSR Kadapa district, under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme in collaboration with the central govt. The event is scheduled to take place in the afternoon at Gandikota, following the conclusion of the pension distribution program in Jammalamadugu. Minister Durgesh emphasized that the project is part of the government's vision to revitalize tourism infrastructure in the region, showcasing Gandikota as a heritage and adventure tourism destination. Further, on Saturday and Sunday, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) will organize a major tourism exhibition in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The exhibition aims to engage young entrepreneurs and industrialists from northern states and invite them to invest in Andhra Pradesh's tourism sector. In addition, minister Durgesh announced that the state will host a major partnership summit in Visakhapatnam on November 14 and 15, marking the return of high-profile investment conclaves under the new TDP-led administration. The summit is expected to open doors for multi-sectoral investments, with a special focus on infrastructure, hospitality, and tourism. A cabinet sub-committee has been formed to oversee preparations for the summit. Minister Durgesh confirmed that minister Nara Lokesh has been appointed as the chairman of the committee, while he himself will serve as one of the key members. The summit will serve as a platform to showcase Andhra Pradesh's investor-friendly policies and attract both domestic and international investors. Durgesh noted that during Naidu's earlier tenure, the partnership summit was held annually, particularly in Visakhapatnam, and resulted in substantial investments as many enthusiastic entrepreneurs responded positively to the state's proactive approach. He also criticized the previous YSRCP govt, stating that during their five-year term, there was no consistent policy to promote investment or tourism, except for holding a solitary meeting that lacked follow-through. He affirmed that the current government, under CM Naidu and deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, is fully committed to reinvigorating the state's investment climate through sustained engagement and robust summits.

Simhachalam Giri Pradakshina to attract lakhs of devotees
: The port city is gearing up for the highly anticipated Simhachalam Giri Pradakshina, a spiritual walk of devotion that attracts lakhs of devotees every year. The event, which will take place on Wednesday, involves a 32 km walk around the Simhachalam hill, starting and ending at Tholipavancha, the foothill of Simhachalam. The district administration and temple management are expecting around five to six lakh devotees to participate in the event, and extensive arrangements have been made to ensure their safety and convenience. Around 3,000 police personnel from various districts, including the city police commissionerate, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitarama Raju district, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam, have been deployed for security and traffic management duties. The spiritual walk is an act of pure devotion, with devotees mostly walking barefoot and chanting Lord Vishnu's name throughout the night. The city police commissioner, Sankabrata Bagchi, has stated that the entire route will be under CCTV surveillance, linked to the command control centre. Devotees can rest at the holding points, and if they need any help, they can contact the police or use the Astram App. With these arrangements in place, the Simhachalam Giri Pradakshina is expected to be a successful and memorable event for the devotees.
