Amplus Solar rebrands as Gentari, Pungalia named India head

Mint05-05-2025

New Delhi: Malaysian clean energy solutions provider Gentari has announced the integration of its commercial and industrial (C&I) arm, Amplus Solar, into the Gentari brand.
The move marks a significant consolidation of Gentari's renewable energy business in India, unifying its operations under a single brand as it aims to scale its clean energy offerings across both distributed and utility-scale segments. It also comes amid a leadership transition, with Amplus chief executive Sharad Pungalia taking over as Gentari's country head in India following the recent departure of Navjit Gill.
'With over 20 years of experience in India's energy sector, Sharad will now lead Gentari's overall integrated operations in India, spanning its renewable energy, hydrogen, and green mobility businesses,' a company statement said.
Petronas, the Malaysian state-run energy major, acquired Amplus in 2019. Since 2023, Amplus has been operating as part of the Gentari group. Gentari said the latest move not only reflects a unified brand identity but also strengthens alignment across teams, enabling the group to deliver more cohesive and scalable clean energy solutions.
'This integration further brings together Amplus Solar's deep expertise in the C&I segment with Gentari's broader utility-scale ambitions,' the statement added.
Sushil Purohit, CEO of Gentari, added: 'By bringing together our capabilities in C&I and utility-scale renewables under one roof, we are strengthening our foundation to deliver greater value to our customers. Under a united Gentari brand, we intend to take a more unified and impactful approach in accelerating energy transition in India.'
Purohit credited Pungalia's leadership at Amplus for cementing Gentari's presence in the renewables space. 'His depth of industry experience and track record in scaling clean energy solutions position him well to further propel our India operations forward,' he said.
Gentari currently has a renewable energy capacity of about 6 GW in India, including both operational and under-construction projects. This includes the capacity of Amplus Solar.
The company is also developing a 650-MW round-the-clock carbon-free energy project to supply power to AMG Ammonia's upcoming green ammonia facilities under a long-term purchase agreement.
In March, Gentari acquired a 1.6 GW portfolio of solar and wind assets in India from New York-based Brookfield Asset Management. It is also a shareholder in AM Green, a green hydrogen and ammonia company aiming to produce 5 million tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2030, equivalent to 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen.

Vance, Rubio played key roles in India-Pak. deescalation: Trump nominee

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio played a critical role in urging restraint during the recent India-Pakistan crisis, President Donald Trump's nominee for Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Paul Kapur, told lawmakers during his Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday. 'As somebody from the outside looking in, it appeared to me that the Secretary [of State] and the Vice President were actively engaged in using their good offices to encourage de-escalation,' Mr. Kapur told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. 'I think that probably had a salutary effect. Ultimately, India and Pakistan made their own decisions to step back.' Mr. Kapur, currently a professor at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, was responding to questions about rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which India has attributed to Pakistan-based groups. Sen. Chris Van Hollen said he had good discussions with the Indian and Pakistani parliamentary delegations that were in Washington last week in the aftermath of the India-Pakistan crisis. 'Fragile ceasefire' 'President Trump and Secretary Rubio have taken credit for bringing about the ceasefire. As you probably already know, the Indian government has denied that the ceasefire resulted from American mediation. But regardless, there's a fragile ceasefire in place. Secretary Rubio said this on May 10: 'I am pleased to announce the governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate cease-fire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,' unquote. So, Dr. Kapur, if you are confirmed, what broad set of issues will you push India and Pakistan to discuss?' the Senator asked. Mr. Kapur said the U.S. and India share a host of common interests, ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region, which is not dominated by China, expanding bilateral trade, and building economic relationships so that it is more symmetrical and more profitable. 'Facilitating technology sharing and innovation, and ensuring access to the energy necessary to fuel our economies. If confirmed, I'll work to further advance U.S.-India relations and put our partnership on course to realise its tremendous promise. On Pakistan, if confirmed, I will pursue security cooperation where it is beneficial to U.S. interests while seeking opportunities for bilateral collaboration in trade and investment,' Mr. Kapur said. 'South Asia recently avoided a costly conflict, with Vice-President Vance and Secretary Rubio intensely engaged on the issue. If confirmed, I will continue to promote long-standing U.S. security interests with India and Pakistan through the pursuit of peace and stability and the fight against terrorism,' he added. Expanding ties 'Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan are important for stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Sri Lanka and the Maldives are located along major oceanic trade routes, while Bangladesh boasts the largest economy in the region after India. If confirmed, I will advocate for enhanced U.S. cooperation with these countries to bolster our security, counterbalance China's influence and expand trade. In Afghanistan, if confirmed, I'll support President Trump and Secretary Rubio in bringing home wrongly detained Americans,' he said. Sen. James E Risch, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the recent conflict between India and Pakistan is deeply concerning and has shown that the U.S. must continue its counterterrorism cooperation across the region. 'The U.S. shares national security interests with both countries and we need a peace between them,' he said. (

UK's Long Harbour proposes $852 million bid for PRS REIT

BENGALURU: UK property investor Long Harbour has made a 631.6 million pound ($852 million) takeover proposal for Britain's PRS REIT at below the market price, sending PRS REIT shares down around 2% on Wednesday. PRS, a real-estate investment trust that has put itself up for sale, said London-based Long Harbour was proposing to offer 115 pence per share in cash, a 3.3% discount to PRS' closing price of 118.8 pence on Tuesday. The shares hit a record high of 125 pence earlier in the day after Sky News reported the possible offer and said Long Harbour had secured financing to launch a 700 million pound bid. A deal could add to a flurry of recent transactions within the UK-listed REIT industry, and underscore the growing appetite among players to bolster operations against an uncertain economic backdrop. "Intra-REIT M&A ... makes fewer, larger and more investable stocks, so less is more," Jefferies analysts said in a note on Tuesday. Last week, Unite Group proposed to buy Empiric Student Property for about $976 million, while Warehouse REIT agreed to be bought by investment firm Blackstone for $635 million. LondonMetric agreed to buy Urban Logistics for $925 million in May. PRS, which focuses on family homes in the private rented sector, said in February it had received several proposals from unidentified parties. The company said on Wednesday it expected to provide an update on its sale process by the end of June. The process followed the launch of a strategic review in October after PRS replaced two board members, including its then chair, in agreement with a group of shareholders who had demanded these changes.

Spread across five acres, Broadway will feature three high-rise towers with G+50 floors, comprising a total of 885 three-bedroom apartments. The flats will range from 2,035 to 2,650 square feet, and the project is scheduled for completion and handover by December 2029. Ajitesh Korupolu, founder and CEO of ASBL, said: 'Since 2015, Mercer has ranked Hyderabad as India's most liveable city six times, highlighting its tranquillity, cosmopolitan appeal and safety.
