Over a dozen firearms found after search warrant on Wisconsin residence involved in 36-hour standoff
FREDONIA, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities have released additional information following a that lasted approximately 36 hours and ended on May 10.
According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred on Fox Glen Road and remains under active investigation. The suspect is currently in custody at a behavioral health facility and is expected to appear in court later this week. Criminal charges are expected to be referred to the district attorney's office in the coming days.

What's next The judge ordered a competency hearing, at which the doctor who submitted the report will appear, for August. The backstory The tactical situation started on the night of Thursday, May 8. It lasted nearly 38 hours and ended with the suspect – since identified as Novak – in custody on Saturday morning, May 10. The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office said a man with weapons had barricaded himself inside a home and was "extremely dangerous." After Novak was taken into custody, the sheriff's office said there was no longer a threat to the public. According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, it all started with reports of multiple gunshots on Fox Glen Road. Deputies monitored the area but didn't hear any gunshots. Law enforcement was able to reach the man over the phone – who acknowledged he was playing loud music and firing weapons. The man then said he was going to keep playing music and would shoot anyone who came to his home. Further investigation determined the man was firing several guns – including an automatic rifle – in unknown directions, posing a "significant threat" to the community and deputies. The sheriff's office advised neighbors to shelter in place, specifically in the basements of their homes, due to the high-powered nature of the man's weapons. Negotiators tried to engage the man and deescalate the situation for several hours, but the sheriff's office said the man remained uncooperative and threatened to "go full auto" and kill anyone who approached. He provided further information that he was heavily armed and would use force against officers. The sheriff's office said the man was seen aiming a rifle toward law enforcement vehicles on multiple occasions. He was eventually taken into custody after the use of "non-lethal tactical resources." The standoff resulted in substantial damage to the home. The sheriff's office said a private construction company was contracted to stabilize and reinforce the structure so investigators could search inside, where they found multiple guns, among other items of significance. After he was taken into custody, Novak was taken to a behavioral health facility. He was later booked into the Ozaukee County Jail. L.A. probation officer arrested, accused of supplying drugs to juvenile hall
A Los Angeles County probation officer was arrested Tuesday afternoon on charges he smuggled drugs into a juvenile hall where a teen died of a drug overdose in 2023, prosecutors said. Michael Solis, 59, allegedly conspired with two juvenile detainees to sell Xanax to people being held inside of Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar between May and August of 2023, according to a criminal complaint filed last week. Court records show Solis allegedly began conspiring to sell the drugs on May, 14, 2023, just five days after 18-year-old detainee Bryan Diaz died of a fentanyl overdose in the same building. 'Trafficking illegal drugs to juveniles is unconscionable under any circumstances, let alone as a government employee taking advantage of vulnerable youth in need of guidance and support,' Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Nathan Hochman said in a statement. 'Probation officers have as their primary duty the protection, health and safety of juveniles under their care. My office will not tolerate such an abuse of power, which endangers youth, undermines rehabilitation, and makes our communities less safe.' A spokesperson for the district attorney's office said Solis was cited to appear for arraignment on June 18. The D.A.'s office declined to say if Diaz's death sparked the investigation into Solis, who faces up to three years in prison if he is convicted. Reports of increased drug use among teens held at the Secure Youth Treatment Facility at Nidorf, where Solis worked, had surfaced in the months before Diaz's death. County Inspector General's office detailed two incidents where youths were taken to local medical facilities or revived with Narcan after fentanyl overdoses. A March 2023 search of the unit where the teens overdosed uncovered pills laced with fentanyl and 'two large bindles of what appeared to be fentanyl' inside a dormitory, according to the inspector general's report. Diaz died on May 9, 2023. Five days later, according to the criminal complaint, Solis began conspiring with two juveniles at Nidorf to bring Xanax into the jails. Court filings say he was caught on camera twice handing a juvenile — identified only as "Co-Conspirator A" — small packages believed to be drugs inside Nidorf hall. Solis, who the juveniles nicknamed "Old Boy" in phone calls recorded by law enforcement, was charging as much as $400 per drug drop, according to the complaint. The enterprise fell apart in August 2023, when "Co-Conspirator A" was caught with 106 Xanax pills inside of Nidorf Hall, court records show. 'There is no room in this Department for anyone who violates the public trust and endangers the safety and wellbeing of the youth in our care,' Chief Probation Officer Guillermo Viera Rosa said in a statement Tuesday. 'We applaud the action taken by District Attorney Nathan Hochman, and remain steadfast in our commitment to holding our staff to the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.' Solis first came under scrutiny in October 2023 after another Secure Youth Treatment Facility resident, Nicholas Ibarra, was charged with bringing drugs into the facility. Ibarra told two probation officers — Reggie Torres and David Corona — that he could identify an officer bringing drugs into the facility, according to Tom Yu, an attorney representing both officers. Torres and Corona were both placed on administrative leave a short time later for conducting an "incomplete investigation," according to Yu, who said the charges against Solis vindicated the officers. "My guys were unlawfully f—ed with essentially, they were harassed and they were obstructed from doing their jobs," Yu said. "Solis was the target of the investigation." The probation department has not responded to Yu's allegations since he first made them in 2023. The charges are the latest in a series of criminal investigations targeting probation officers. Earlier this year, a California Attorney General's office investigation into so-called "gladiator fights" at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey led to indictments against 30 officers. A probation supervisor also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in February, years after the Times published footage of him bending a teen in half inside Camp Kilpatrick. Second defendant convicted in human trafficking sexual assault case in Fond du Lac
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A second illegal immigrant found in Fond du Lac County has been convicted of human trafficking sexual assault involving his co-defendant's daughter. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney announced that Juan Carlos Rocha-Mejia was convicted of first-degree sexual assault of a child after pleading no contest. 42-year-old Wisconsin man arrested for 4th OWI after swerving in between multiple lanes Co-defendant Elia Antonio, the mother of the victim, was previously convicted of human trafficking of a child, failure to protect a child, and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. Bond was revoked for Rocha-Mejia, and the judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation. 'Today is another step towards justice for the survivor, with the second defendant being convicted for a disgusting attack on a child,' said Toney. 'We look forward to the upcoming sentencing hearings to hold both defendants accountable and help the survivor move past the court process. I am grateful for the excellent investigative efforts by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office and ADA Menzl.' The investigation revealed that Rocha-Mejia and Antonio are illegally in the United States. The convictions stem from a sexual assault of Elia Antonio's daughter on March 18, 2024. Antonio gave her daughter to Rocha-Mejia to be sexually assaulted for approximately $250. Rocha-Mejia held the child in a van and attempted to duct-tape her as he began to sexually assault her. Multiple hurt in Sheboygan County crash involving dump truck, one severely injured The victim bravely fought back, biting Rocha-Mejia, and escaped to a nearby residence. The defendant's DNA and the survivor's DNA were found on duct tape located in the van. Rocha-Mejia faces up to 40 years of initial confinement.
