Second defendant convicted in human trafficking sexual assault case in Fond du Lac
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney announced that Juan Carlos Rocha-Mejia was convicted of first-degree sexual assault of a child after pleading no contest.
42-year-old Wisconsin man arrested for 4th OWI after swerving in between multiple lanes
Co-defendant Elia Antonio, the mother of the victim, was previously convicted of human trafficking of a child, failure to protect a child, and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.
Bond was revoked for Rocha-Mejia, and the judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation.
'Today is another step towards justice for the survivor, with the second defendant being convicted for a disgusting attack on a child,' said Toney. 'We look forward to the upcoming sentencing hearings to hold both defendants accountable and help the survivor move past the court process. I am grateful for the excellent investigative efforts by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office and ADA Menzl.'
The investigation revealed that Rocha-Mejia and Antonio are illegally in the United States. The convictions stem from a sexual assault of Elia Antonio's daughter on March 18, 2024. Antonio gave her daughter to Rocha-Mejia to be sexually assaulted for approximately $250. Rocha-Mejia held the child in a van and attempted to duct-tape her as he began to sexually assault her.

The victim bravely fought back, biting Rocha-Mejia, and escaped to a nearby residence. The defendant's DNA and the survivor's DNA were found on duct tape located in the van. Rocha-Mejia faces up to 40 years of initial confinement.
The sentencing hearing for Rocha-Mejia is scheduled for August 21, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., and the sentencing for Elia Antonio is set for the same day at 11:00 a.m.

Police in Wisconsin respond to unusual home intrusion by 'masked bandits'
WAUSAU, Wis. (WFRV) – Police officers in central Wisconsin were faced with multiple 'masked bandits' while recently responding to what they called an unusual home intrusion report. In a post on social media by the Wausau Police Department, multiple 'masked suspects' were found inside a home on Wausau's east side, with two others later found loitering on the roof. Local artist helps capture WFRV Local 5's 70 years of news Officers say no arrests were needed, however, the raccoons were given a firm warning to vacate the premises, a warning police say was largely ignored. While this situation was not too serious, the police are using it to give the public an important reminder. First, to avoid raccoons being near or coming inside a home, residents should make sure to secure their trash cans, pet food, and bird feeders. They should also seal any possible easy access points of a home, like the attic, chimneys, or screens. If residents do encounter raccoons in or around their home, officials say not to approach the animals as they can bite or scratch if threatened and could be carrying diseases like rabies. Instead, residents should call a licensed wildlife removal service for safe and humane assistance or contact a local humane society or DNR office for additional guidance. These 'masked bandits' may look cute, but it's best to admire them from a distance! The Wausua Police Department Officers did add that if there is an immediate safety concern, residents can and should contact their local police department. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
