WATCH: Lotus Evija review Our fastest ever road test

Yahoo5 days ago
This is the Lotus Evija and in the near 100 years that Autocar has been fixing timing gear to cars to see how fast they'll go, no car has ever accelerated as quickly as this. Lotus's £2m, 2013bhp electric hypercar is astonishingly fast.
Unlike most EVs, which accelerate quickly from rest and then run out of puff, once the Evija gets going, it just keeps going. And going. How fast? It reaches 200mph almost ten seconds quicker than a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. It takes less than half the time of a McLaren F1. Over a standing kilometre, where the incredibly rapid Lamborghini Revuelto will reach 186mph, the Evija reaches its top speed ... of 217mph.
What does this acceleration look and feel like? And, once you get your head around the acceleration, just what is this hypercar like to drive? Join Matt Prior at Lotus's test track for the answers in our video by clicking above.

Ferrari Shares Skid But Investors Confident Control Was Never Lost

Italian luxury sports carmaker Ferrari usually rides out any financial storms while lesser mortals issue profit warnings and are forced to batten down the hatches to ward off trouble. Last week, Ferrari's share price dived 12% after a suspicion that its golden record through thick and thin might have come to an end. But analysts expect normal service to resume soon, not least because Ferrari had reported improved second quarter profits and reaffirmed its belief 2025 will be stronger than ever. Analysts believe the negative reaction was due to a misunderstanding of company expectations after the financial news announcement, coupled with a view by some that the stock price might have become too expensive compared with other luxury goods companies. Bernstein Research believes the relentless Ferrari success legend has plenty of life in it. 'We believe the Ferrari story is very much intact and the sell-off was overblown. We reiterate our $554 price target and 'Outperform' rating,' Bernstein Research said in a report. Nevertheless, the share price on Monday hadn't recovered much, closing at €376.2 ($435.18) in Europe. Deliberately conservative Ferrari has a reputation for being deliberately conservative with its forecasts while being confident the predictions will be easily achieved, and then some. But this time the understatement was a bit too much, according to Bernstein, and led investors to believe Ferrari was signaling a fall in demand. Bernstein sought clarification and was told there was no intention of pointing to any decline in demand, and it was a restatement of Ferrari's core philosophy of favoring pricing and mix over demand. In other words, Ferrari still plans to produce enough cars to not quite meet demand. Ferrari reported net profit in the second quarter rose to €425 million ($492 million) from €413 million ($478 million) in the same period last year. Revenues rose 4.4% to €1.79 billion ($2.1 billion). It delivered 3,494 sports cars and SUVs, up 10. Ferrari said it has strong confidence in and reiterated its guidance for 2025, which said revenues will top €7 billion ($8.1 billion) with adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of at least €2.68 billion ($3.1 billion) with a profit margin of at least 38.3%. One analyst who didn't want to be named attributed the share price fall to slightly lower growth in sales which called into question Ferrari's ability to keep on growing profits and average selling prices, while Reuters reported poor U.S. economic data raised questions about luxury companies like Ferrari. Waiting for the CMD Investment researcher Jefferies said in a report its estimates for Ferrari remained largely unchanged, as investors began to speculate about the upcoming Capital Markets Day on October 9. CMDs set the long-term goals for companies and this one is likely to reveal more details about the electric vehicle program. Reuters reported in June that Ferrari had delayed plans for a second battery-electric vehicle until at least 2028. Ferrari didn't confirm the report, and since then other reports have suggested there was no plan for a second EV. Meanwhile, Ferrari will unveil its first EV, the Elettrica, at the CMD, with the world premiere next Spring, and first deliveries in October 2026. Investment bank UBS said the share price reaction was excessive and could present a compelling buying opportunity for investors in the runup to the CMD. UBS said amongst its key conclusions from Ferrari's second quarter was the strong order book extending into 2027, and positive buyer feedback on the new Amalfi, which would expand the customer base. UBS said it still rates Ferrari shares as a 'Buy'. Amalfi Is Ferrari's starter model, replacing the Roma The Amalfi is Ferrari's entry-level model and replaces the Roma. The Amalfi is more of a facelift than a completely new model. It is powered by a twin-turbo 3.9 liter V8 engine. According to HSBC equity research, it will be priced at €240,000 ($278,000) up from the Roma's €200,000 ($231,000). 'This is the Ferrari gateway product, so if you want to get into the 'family' this is where you need to start. Plus, we are now living in a world of tariffs and the Roma was one of the models the group didn't raise U.S. prices on earlier this year,' HSBC Equity Research said in a research note.

Onsemi posts quarterly revenue drop, sees dull third-quarter profit on market uncertainty

(Reuters) -U.S. automotive chipmaker Onsemi on Monday forecast lackluster profit for the third quarter, after reporting a sharp decline in second-quarter revenue, sending its shares down by more than 10%. Sales growth in battery electric vehicles has slowed due to an uncertain economic environment, brought on by global import duties, and elevated borrowing costs in the U.S. Consumers have hit the breaks on big-ticket spending as tariffs threaten to increase the costs of automobiles by thousands of dollars and drive up inflation. This has been forcing automakers to reassess production plans and withhold financial investments, affecting companies such as Onsemi. The company acknowledged during its earnings call that the EV market remains soft, especially in North America and Europe, with recovery being slower than hoped. However, Onsemi said it sees "signs of stabilization" across its end markets, after a prolonged slump in demand due to excess chip supply. The company is among a select group of suppliers providing silicon carbide chips, which are critical for extending the range of EVs. It added that it has not yet seen a broad-based recovery in automotive and expects only low single-digit growth in the third quarter. An end to the $7,500 federal tax credit for electric cars has also cast a cloud over the EV industry's outlook, with some firms expecting a hit to the market growth. Onsemi expects third-quarter adjusted earnings between 54 cents and 64 cents per share, compared with analysts' average estimate of 59 cents, according to data compiled by LSEG. It forecast revenue of $1.47 billion and $1.57 billion for the third quarter, the midpoint of which is slightly above estimates of $1.50 billion. The company's second-quarter revenue of $1.47 billion beat expectations of $1.45 billion, but fell about 15% from a year ago.

This Rendering Imagines a Modern Version of Classic Porsche 911s

This Rendering Imagines a Modern Version of Classic Porsche 911s originally appeared on Autoblog. The Porsche 911 is an iconic sports car, but part of that legacy is due to the fact that, in 2025, it still looks strikingly similar to the first 911s from the early 1960s. That said, today's cars are far larger and heavier than they once were, but a Ukrainian designer's recent Instagram renderings show us what could have happened if Porsche had stuck to the smaller, lighter format. Mykola Tarasenko's renderings don't turn the 911 into something unrecognizable. Instead, they reshape the car's front- and rear-end designs, giving it a more cropped, compact look. He kept the 911's signature round headlights and didn't change its basic proportions. Tarasenko also included the rear LED light bar from recent 911 models. The 911 S/T was the lightest car from the current generation, but it retains the larger size of its heavier counterparts. These are just fan renderings, so don't go getting excited about a huge shift in 911 design. The automaker offers a staggering number of configurations for the current car, and while they aren't the lightweight sports cars from decades past, it's hard to fault their performance. That said, Porsche executives have been clear that the company is in trouble, saying that it needs to take drastic measures to get back on track. The automaker has seen tumbling sales in China, leading it to an eight percent global drop in sales in the first quarter of 2025. At the same time, its first EV, the Taycan, hasn't been selling all that well, though the newer Macan EV received a reasonably warm welcome in North America. All of that could lead Porsche back to more extreme 911 variants, but that still won't lead us back to a stripped-down, back-to-basics model.
