Ollie Gordon II is using his Dolphins jersey number as a motivating reminder
Ollie Gordon II isn't going to forget his slide in the 2025 NFL draft any time soon. The Miami Dolphins' sixth-round pick is going to wear a reminder of that weekend on his chest and back every time he suits up in the NFL with a No. 31 jersey.
"The Dolphins went out and chose me," Gordon told reporters Friday. "It's 32 teams in the NFL and 31 teams passed on me so why not use it [as motivation]?"
Gordon's slide to the second-to-last round in the draft wasn't a shock after he put up mediocre numbers in his final season at Oklahoma State. While he earned the 2023 Doak Walker Award, recognizing college football's best running back, he managed only 880 rushing yards in 2024 after recording 1,732 in the season prior.
But the Dolphins are hopeful they can get the 2023 version of Gordon.
"It's not the first time that we've come across an evaluation even at that particular school where you have someone have a really big year followed by maybe a year that they didn't anticipate or was underwhelming for them," Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said of Gordon shortly after the draft ended.
"The biggest thing is you try to meet the player, engage with him and see what the experience, how it's affected him. You're hoping that it burns a fire inside and I think it was pretty evident when we visited with him that he was eager to prove himself. So I think the '23 tape was very impressive and based upon our interactions with him, we feel optimistic that is the version that we're going to improve upon moving forward."
Step one for Gordon is learning how to be a member of the Dolphins offense.
"Coach Mike (McDaniel) knows how to use his players, and I'm just ready to be a part of that, be able to help the team anyway I can," Gordon said. "Even if that's playing special teams, but just to be there and just to see what's going on – Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill running all over the field. I feel like it will be huge to see.'

Aaron Rodgers can make history with Week 8 win vs. Packers

Aaron Rodgers is officially the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, agreeing to terms with the team on Thursday, and flying to Pittsburgh Friday to put pen to paper. With it being official that the four-time MVP will suit up in Pittsburgh this season, Rodgers has the chance to do something only four quarterbacks in history have ever done - beat every team in the NFL. Advertisement Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Brett Favre are the only quarterbacks in history to beat every team in the NFL. Rodgers will get the chance to face his former team, the Green Bay Packers, for the first time this season when Jordan Love leads the Packers into Acrisure Stadium on Sunday Night Football in Week 8. Rodgers will face his other former team, the New York Jets, in Week 1 of the 2025 season, and he is 3-1 against the Jets for his career. The Steelers face the rest of the NFC North in 2025, as well - a division in which Rodgers has an astounding 59-25-1. More from

49ers BREAKING as Mykel Signs Guaranteed $24.9 Million Contract

Newly-drafted San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Mykel Williams didn't only want a contract. But on Thursday, he got one, anyway. Williams, known in college for having high motor and for the dual ability to both stuff the run and sack the quarterback - stuff that is evident just by watching his tape - also has the intangibles. Advertisement And some of those are the things that the Niners think will make Williams special. While being interviewed recently on the Danza Project, Williams was faced with a hypothetical question. He was asked what he wanted more. ... His choices were ... A $200 million contract, or ... A $60 million contract with a guaranteed Super Bowl ring. Williams gave an answer for the ages and goes to the character that general manager John Lynch looks for when drafting a player. Williams said he would rather live comfortably with the smaller deal and have the Super Bowl ring, which has eluded so many great players throughout their careers. Advertisement 'I ain't gonna lie to you, bro. That's legacy. A ring will decide whether you go to the Hall of Fame or not," Williams said. "Sometimes that's what it comes down to… Winning a Super Bowl is your legacy. "So yeah I'll go with the Super Bowl.' For now, he'll have to settle for the dough, though. The Niners have now signed the No. 11 overall pick Williams to his four-year, fully guaranteed $24.9 million contract along with a $14.8 mil signing bonus. Now, when it comes to money and to wins? "Both'' is probably the most honest answer. But for now? The kid wants to be great and he wants to bring a Super Bowl championship back to the Bay Area. And getting officially signed up is a first step to all of that. Related: Fans Trash Niners Schedule Release Video With NSFW Rants
