Mercon Developments has signed a cooperation agreement with Gewan Hotels and Resorts to deliver a fully integrated residential and hospitality experience within the Riverton project in New Cairo.
Under the agreement, Gewan will operate and manage the hotel units within the development, which is being implemented in partnership with Kuwait's Al Tamayoz Company. Spanning more than 25 feddans in the Fifth Settlement, the Riverton project will feature 120 serviced units alongside a range of upscale facilities, including restaurants, meeting rooms, a spa, swimming pool, and gym — all designed to meet international hospitality standards.
Commenting on the partnership, Mercon Developments Chairperson Ahmed Embaby said: 'We are confident that this collaboration with Gewan will bring a new dimension to the concept of luxury living and enhance investment returns for property owners, especially given the project's prime location opposite the American University.'
Gewan Hotels and Resorts CEO Ahmed Haseeb emphasised that the company offers luxury hotel services coupled with professional leasing solutions designed to maximise both convenience and returns for clients.
The partnership marks Gewan's official entry into the Egyptian market, following its successful track record in the United Arab Emirates, where it recently announced the launch of more than 1,000 hotel units across five prime destinations in New Alamein City and Cairo.
Gewan Hotels and Resorts' current portfolio includes the Gewan Cairo Hotel, with 365 units and a fully integrated business hub; the Gewan Resort in New Alamein City, comprising 425 units and a water park considered one of the city's finest; the Gewan White Beach Hotel, featuring 329 units, four swimming pools, and direct access to a pristine sandy beach; and the Gewan Palace Hotel, offering 86 luxury units. The group is also preparing to launch one of its most exclusive properties next year — the Gewan Luxury Hotel in New Alamein City.
The Riverton project itself will offer a mix of premium residential villas and hotel units, with total investments estimated at EGP 20bn.
Mercon Developments currently has five projects across New Cairo, including four mixed-use commercial and residential developments: Pavo, G7, Nurai Walk, and Nurai. One of its flagship projects, G7, is located in the Fifth Settlement and offers administrative and medical units along North Teseen Street.
Beyond Egypt, Mercon is actively engaged in several strategic partnerships across Arab markets, particularly in Kuwait and the UAE.

Gold Falls Locally and Globally Amid White House Tariff Uncertainty and U.S. Inflation Data Watch

Waleed Farouk Gold prices in both local and global markets saw a notable decline on Monday, as investors awaited a potential move from the White House regarding possible tariffs on gold bullion. Market focus also shifted toward U.S. inflation data due later this week, which could determine the future path of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. In local markets, the price of 21-karat gold fell by around EGP 40 compared to Saturday's close, settling at EGP 4,580 per gram. Globally, spot gold lost about $42 to trade at $3,355 per ounce. The price of 24-karat gold stood at EGP 5,234 per gram, 18-karat gold at EGP 3,926, and 14-karat gold at EGP 3,054, while the gold pound coin was valued at EGP 36,640. Last week, gold prices rose 0.4% locally, with the 21-karat price up EGP 20 from EGP 4,600 to EGP 4,620, while on the global market the metal gained 1%, moving from $3,363 to $3,397 per ounce. The latest pullback comes amid selling pressure, as attention turns to the U.S. July Consumer Price Index (CPI), expected to show a 0.3% monthly increase in core inflation, pushing the annual rate to 3%—above the Fed's 2% target. Markets are also awaiting an executive order promised by the White House to clarify its stance on potential bullion tariffs. Analysts say the CPI report will reveal whether the inflationary pressures from tariffs are temporary or persistent, especially after June data showed a rise in prices for many imported goods. Economists expect headline inflation to rise 2.8% year-on-year and core CPI—excluding volatile food and energy prices—to increase 3.0%. Any upside inflation surprises could prompt investors to reassess bets on a September rate cut, despite last week's weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs report, which boosted market expectations to nearly 90% for a 25-basis-point rate reduction, with at least one more cut projected before year-end. Comments from Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman and St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem—indicating openness to policy easing—also weighed on the dollar and supported precious metals. Separately, Reuters reported that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is seeking a successor to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, with speculation centering on veteran advisers and former regional Fed presidents, as political pressure from President Donald Trump to cut rates continues. Attention is also on the upcoming summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, where discussions will focus on ending the war in Ukraine. The deadline for new U.S. tariffs on China, initially set for Tuesday, is widely expected to be extended. According to the CME FedWatch tool, markets are pricing in an 88% chance of a Fed funds rate cut to the 4.00%-4.25% range. While gold typically holds its appeal in high-inflation environments, a prolonged restrictive Fed policy stance could weigh on its performance in the medium term. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Hisham Talaat Moustafa leads Egyptians in Forbes 2025 travel and tourism list

Hisham Talaat Moustafa, CEO and Managing Director of Talaat Moustafa Group Holding (TMG), has been named the top Egyptian leader in Forbes Middle East's 'Top 100 Travel & Tourism Leaders 2025' list for the fourth consecutive year. Hisham Talaat Moustafa advanced three places from last year to rank 12th regionally among the most influential names in the sector. Forbes attributed the ranking to Moustafa's more than 40-year career leading TMG, which currently manages over 5,000 hotel rooms across 11 operational hotels, with five more under development. The group's land bank stands at 125.9 million square metres in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Iraq. TMG recorded cumulative sales of $6.9bn in the first quarter of 2025, and its hotel sector revenues rose by 50% to $69m, accounting for 37% of the group's total revenues of $186m. In May 2025, the group signed a strategic agreement with Oman's Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning to develop two real estate projects, reinforcing its regional presence. The Forbes Middle East ranking methodology included criteria such as the size of the company's business, the number of hotels and rooms, revenues, investment and asset value, and regional presence. It also considered economic impact, asset ownership, the CEO's influence, and significant achievements and initiatives during 2024 and 2025. Hisham Talaat Moustafa has led a significant transformation in the Egyptian tourism sector, notably through the acquisition by TMG's hospitality arm, ICON, of a 51% stake in Legacy Hotels and Tourism Projects. Legacy owns seven historic hotels, including the Marriott Mena House in Cairo, the Sofitel Winter Palace in Luxor, and the Old Cataract in Aswan. This acquisition boosted the group's dollar-denominated income and facilitated new investments in these properties. TMG has also enhanced the standard of hospitality in Egypt through partnerships with international brands like Four Seasons and Kempinski. This has helped to raise hotel room rates in Egypt and attract a new segment of high-spending tourists, contributing to the country's position as a leading luxury tourism destination in the region.

Egypt annual core inflation rises to 11.6% in July: CBE - Economy

Egypt's annual core inflation rose to 11.6 percent in July, up from 11.4 percent in June, according to the Central Bank of Egypt's (CBE) calculations published on Sunday. On a monthly basis, the core inflation decreased to negative 0.3 percent in July 2025, an improvement from negative 0.5 percent in July 2024 and a slight drop from negative 0.2 percent in June 2025. In tandem, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced that urban headline inflation recorded negative 0.5 percent for July 2025, compared to 0.4 percent in July 2024 and negative 0.1 percent in June 2025. It added that the urban headline inflation stands at 13.9 percent year-on-year, down from 14.9 percent in June 2025. These inflation trends highlight the evolving economic landscape in Egypt, with core inflation showing signs of stabilization amid broader economic challenges. Global inflation is on a downward path, with headline inflation expected to decrease to 4.2 percent in 2025 and 3.6 percent in 2026. This is largely consistent with the projections of the April World Economic Outlook (WEO) report, published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in July. This decline is primarily due to reduced demand and falling energy prices despite the notable regional differences. In the United States, tariffs are creating a supply-side shock that is gradually impacting consumer prices, causing inflation to remain above the Federal Reserve's two percent target through 2026. The Egyptian government is committed to adjusting retail fuel prices toward cost recovery, expected in December 2025, creating additional fiscal room for targeted social assistance under its ongoing $8 billion loan deal with the IMF.
