Charli xcx marries George Daniel in low-key London ceremony

The Guardian20-07-2025
The pop star Charli xcx and her partner, George Daniel, a drummer in the band The 1975, have married at a ceremony at Hackney town hall in east London.
The smiling couple were pictured and filmed walking down the art deco building's steps through a blizzard of confetti on Saturday.
It was a low-key event given Charli's level of fame. The couple were reportedly spotted and filmed by a passerby, with the pop star later confirming the news on TikTok.
According to the Sun, the 32-year-old singer wore a £3,300 Vivienne Westwood minidress, a veil and her signature black sunglasses at the ceremony. Daniel wore a dark double-breasted suit.
The couple have been together for about three years and worked together on Charli's massively successful and well-regarded 2024 album Brat.
Both were at Glastonbury this year with the Guardian reviewer Shaad D'Souza giving Charli xcx's performance five stars, suggesting she is a successor to Kanye West.
D'Souza wrote: 'Despite being a prodigiously talented mainstream songwriter, she has dedicated her career to exploring the most caustic, hallucinatory sounds of the underground, and working out how best to synthesise them with the pleasures of pure pop music.'
The 1975 performance, a headlining slot, was not far behind, with the Guardian's Alexis Petridis calling it 'bold, experimental, occasionally confounding, but ultimately hugely impressive'.
Charli frequently refers to Daniel, 35, on stage and in song. 'I wanna dance with George,' she sings on Club Classics, a song co-produced by Daniel. He also co-wrote the song Apple.
Charli's TikTok post features her strutting into a room wearing the dress, jokingly turning round and leaving. The text says: 'when george isn't crying when he sees me walking down the aisle.'
She adds in a caption: 'luckily he did xx.' The soundtrack is Charli xcx's Girl, So Confusing.
There are thousands of mostly congratulatory messages including: 'Congrats Mrs and Mr XCX,' 'ConBRATulations,' and 'this is the single most important thing since we discovered fire'.

Pizzas on the pitch, Chelsea star Reece James celebrating with sister Lauren, singing in the tunnel and Ella Toone's tribute to her late dad: Inside Lionesses' party after Women's Euros

It was party time for the Lionesses on Sunday night after Sarina Wiegman 's side beat world champions Spain in a penalty shootout to retain their Women's Euros title. England fell behind for the third knockout game in a row but Alessia Russo equalised to cancel out Mariona Caldentey's opener and force extra time. Lucy Bronze limped off at half-time in extra time after picking up a knee injury to go with the fractured tibia she had been secretly nursing all summer. But England still prevailed 3-1 on spot-kicks, thanks in no small part to goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, who saved two penalties, just as she had in the quarter-final victory over Sweden. There were scenes of wild joy as England lifted the trophy they had first won on home soil back in 2022. Chloe Kelly, scorer of the decisive penalty and also the match-winner back in the 2022 final, delivered a quick rhyme to mark the occasion. Shouting excitedly into a camera during a lap of honour, she declared: 'The first time was so nice we had to do it twice!' But the celebrations did not stop there. With medals hanging proudly from their necks, the Lionesses performed a musical number as they left the field. Led by captain Leah Williamson and Beth Mead, England's players belted out 2010 hit Dancing On My Own by Robyn as they exited down the tunnel. The team would later return to the field armed with boxfuls of pizza and cans of beer. Friends and family also joined in the celebrations. Lauren James was seen posing for a group selfie with a large squad of loved-ones, including Chelsea men's captain Reece James. Lauren Hemp celebrated her second European Championship crown by wrapping her arms around girlfriend and former footballer Ashley Hodson. But for some players, not all of their loved ones were able to be present. Ella Toone posted of photo of herself holding team-mate Mead, who lost her mum in 2023. Toone, whose dad died in September last year, captioned the image: 'We did it for our angels in the sky. Forever with us & forever proud'. Toone then shared an image from where her family had been sat at St. Jakob-Park. Despite the game being sold out, seat 430 appeared to be unoccupied. Toone wrote: 'Spare seat next to my mum tonight. If that's not a sign I don't know what is. I know you were there Dad. Love you cock'. 🎶 I KEEP DANCING ON MY OWN! 🎶 ICONIC. — Lionesses (@Lionesses) July 27, 2025 Beth Mead (left) and Ella Toone both lost parents in recent years. But Toone was adamant that her late father was there watching her - after spotting an empty seat next to her mum Inside the England dressing room, Grace Clinton, Aggie Beever-Jones and Jess Park shared a selfie with their medals. Beever-Jones had an extra reason to celebrate as Sunday was her 22nd birthday. The Chelsea star captioned an Instagram post: 'BEST BIRTHDAY EVER.' Maya Le Tissier later uploaded a selfie of herself and Beever-Jones flaunting their medals while on the team bus. It was not only the players in the party mood. Indeed, manager Wiegman discussed her plans for the rest of the evening during a post-match interview.

Millionaire family who blow £40k per holiday muck out sheep on Lancashire camping trip, in Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday

A MILLIONAIRE couple, who have £2500 a week in disposable income were left horrified when they had to muck out alpacas as a "fun" activity on Channel 5's Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday. After giving the Leaf family a glimpse into their lives by taking them to a hotel in Malta that cost more per night than their monthly rent, the Dissont family were whisked off to rural Lancashire for a budget break. 3 3 Health and Aesthetics clinic owners Sam and Andre, who earn up to £80,000 a month, blow up to £40,000 on a single break, so they were less than impressed by the Leaf's glamping holiday, with Andre describing the glamping pods as akin to a "sewage silo." "It's smaller than some of the bathrooms in the hotel's we've stayed in", said Sam, who is used to five star luxury. "I've never been on a holiday where I could touch all four walls at the same time", Andre admitted. The couple and their 14-year-old daughter were immediately unsure whether they would be able to hack the trip. "There's no holiday feel to it, it's just endurance", said Andre, after having to lug his suitcase across a muddy field. The posh family, from Cheshire, who blew £155 on a guided tour in Malta, were shocked to find that the same cost was their entire spending budget for the four-day Lancashire trip. "That is so tight", Andre fumed. "We spend that much money just on getting to the airport." The holiday doesn't get off to a great start, with Sam moaning about the cold temperatures and the fact they're "stuck in a field", with nowhere to go. The couple were horrified by the communal bathroom, and couldn't believe that they had to cook food for themselves. Inside 'real-life Love Island' where super-rich 'drop £3k a day' and kinky clubs sweep up boozy Brits booted out from Ibiza "When it comes to a holiday, I want to be catered for", Andre said. Sam completely refused to use the shared shower and decided to fast rather than eat a breakfast of eggs on toast. Activities on the trip included volunteering with alpacas and paddle boarding, which Andre described as "holiday hell." And although the family did enjoy cuddling the animals, they were less than impressed when it came to mucking them out. Top Hacks for Holidaying with Kids IF you've got plans to go on holiday with your little ones this summer, here's some advice to take on board. These hacks can help make your holiday with kids smoother, more enjoyable, and will ensure that you return home with wonderful memories! "I work hard anyway, I don't need to do that when I'm on holiday", Andre fumed. The Dissont's couldn't wait to get home to their huge mansion, after admitting that their perspective on budget holidays hadn't changed. However, daughter Kasia said she enjoyed the £900 Lancashire break just as much as the £16,000 Malta getaway. The rich family showed their generous side though, by offering to pay for the Bolton-based Leafs to go on holiday to Greece. "You totally deserve it", they told the "selfless" family. In floods of tears, the grateful family said the gift was "incredible".

Love Island's Harry kisses Shakira's neck and goes in for a snog in intimate snuggling moment after rekindling romance

LOVE Island star Harry Cooksley can be seen kissing Shakira Khan's neck and goes in for a snog in an intimate snuggling moment between the pair, after they rekindled their romance. 5 5 5 In tonight's episode, after choosing to sleep outside, Harry returns to the villa and sits down with Shakira to discuss where they stand. They share their strong feelings for one another and, later on in the episode, Harry chooses to recouple with Shakira, leaving Helena and Blu to coupe up. Just a short time later, Harry and Shakira have been seen getting very close in a preview clip played on Love Island's After Sun. Maya played the clip to the panellist and audience members, all of which audibly gasped as they watched Harry snuggle into Shakira and kiss her neck. The 22-year-old could be seen sat on Harry's lap, as the footballer cradled her in the girls' dressing room. She told him they'd be taking "baby steps" as he nestled into her neck after getting their relationship back on track. Eyeing up her lips, Harry leans in to snog Shakira, but she quickly turns away, allowing him to kiss her cheek instead. Earlier in the episode, Harry tells her: 'I have really tried with her [Helena], but we [Shakira and I] had like a week and it was, for me, the feelings were obviously way stronger and still are. "I'm sorry I never like tried again. I really thought the door was just, like, slammed.' Shakira responds: 'Do you want some home truths… it's obviously the way you go about it and the steps you take in between to come to these conclusions obviously hurt people along the way. "It's all well and good you saying 'hold my hands up guys, sorry' but you still hurt people. And it's a pattern.' Harry then makes his intentions clear, saying: 'Look, I'm either leaving here alone or with you.' Both Harry and Helena broke down in tears multiple times in Sunday night's episode, as they cut their final romantic ties in emotional scenes. The duo have continued to deal with the fallout from The Grafties on the long-running ITV2 show. Helena told Harry: "You're so selfish, you've literally broken my heart Harry. Like I cannot be your friend in here. "And I will not be your friend on the outside, I can f****** promise you that. I don't want any association with you ever again." When he suggested that the duo may eventually become friends on the outside, she shut him down once again. "I don't think we will be friends Harry. You don't possess any morals or values that I look for when I'm becoming friends with people. "My friends don't treat me like that. I don't think you have an ounce of respect for me, you've literally ruined everything for me in here." She added: "I literally don't want anything to do with you Harry." That's when the footballers couldn't help but tear up after listening to her resounding words of rejection. Helena added: "I feel like I had something genuine in here and it's like obviously it wasn't. "I just feel so stupid because you clearly haven't felt the same as I felt about you this whole time." She couldn't help but wrap her arms around his neck in a gesture of pity as she caressed his face one more time. As they let go she exclaimed: "It's where the journey ends my darling!" 5
