Oman Air Addresses Concerns Over Muscat-Salalah Ticket Price
Oman Air has issued a clarification regarding the prices of tickets for flights between Muscat and Salalah.
In response to recent discussions on social media platforms regarding ticket prices for domestic destinations, Oman Air emphasised that it maintains fixed prices for Omani citizens travelling in Economy Class on this route throughout the year.
These fixed prices include:
Saving Tourism Category: OMR 61 round trip for 7 kg of cabin baggage (no checked baggage).
Flexible Tourism Category: OMR 64 round trip for 7 kg of cabin baggage and 20 kg of checked baggage.
Oman Air also offers a wider range of travel options, including Economy Class tickets with 30 kg of checked baggage priced at OMR 87 and various Business Class options. The airline noted that some instances of Business Class prices being circulated as Economy Class prices have occurred, particularly when Economy Class seats are fully booked.
Oman Air is the largest operator of flights to Dhofar Governorate, operating five daily flights and increasing this to approximately 12 during the Khareef season and other peak periods. To ensure securing seats at the fixed prices for Omani citizens, the airline encourages passengers to book in advance through the official Oman Air website (omanair.com) or mobile application, especially during peak travel times.
Oman Air reiterated its commitment to providing the best possible services to its guests, focusing on enhancing the travel experience and offering a range of suitable options for all travellers. The airline expressed gratitude to its valued guests for their continued support and encouraged them to utilise the official channels for the best service.

Oman Hotel Revenue Hits $284m as Visitor Numbers Up 8.6%
Oman's revenue from three to five-star hotels by the end of April 2025, reached OR109,213,000 ($283.7m), according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). This is an increase of 17.3 per cent compared to OR93,094,000 ($242m) during the same period in 2024. The statistics indicate that this growth is attributed to an 8.6 per cent rise in the total number of hotel guests, recording 831,751 guests by the end of April 2025, compared to 766,153 guests in the corresponding period in 2024. Additionally, the occupancy rate increased from 53.4 per cent by the end of April 2024 compared to 61.1 per cent by end of April 2025, marking a 14.4 per cent growth. The number of guests from Oceania surged by 57.8 per cent, totalling 18,124 visitors, followed by Africa with a 57.6 per cent increase, reaching 5,993 guests. European guests rose by 19.9 per cent, totalling 314,535 visitors. Meanwhile, guests from the Americas increased by 19.1 per cent, reaching 28,843 visitors, while GCC nationals saw a 12.6 per cent increase, totalling 53,642 guests. Asian nationalities recorded a 5.4 per cent rise, with 114,426 visitors. Conversely, the statistics revealed a 0.7 per cent decline in Omani guests, totalling 238,895 visitors by the end of April 2025. Sultan Of Oman Ratifies Visa Waiver Agreement With Russia
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman has issued Royal Decree No. 53 of 2025, ratifying the Oman-Russia visa waiver agreement, which was originally signed in Moscow on April 22, 2025 between the Sultanate of Oman and the government of the Russian Federation. The decree confirms Oman's formal approval of the agreement, which will come into effect once both countries complete the required legal and technical procedures. The visa waiver is set to ease travel between the two nations by allowing holders of ordinary passports from Oman and Russia to enter each other's countries without the need for a visa. This development not only simplifies travel procedures but also opens broader horizons for bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as economy, tourism, education, and investment. The agreement underscores the Sultanate of Oman's position as a nation open to the world, committed to building balanced strategic partnerships and fostering meaningful international engagement. The official start date of the visa-free travel arrangement will be announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman once all procedural requirements are finalised. Until the agreement officially takes effect, Omani citizens planning to travel to Russia must continue to obtain entry visas in accordance with current procedures.

Bahrain Space Agency Launches AI Powered Satellite Payload
The Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) announced the launch of its first specialised payload for cloud detection and identification of satellite imagery. The project utilises advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and has been developed in collaboration with the Chinese company Star Vision and the Omani company 'Oman Lens,' aboard a joint satellite between the Sultanate of Oman and the People's Republic of China. The project involves a group of BSA engineers in the design, development, and testing of advanced AI algorithms, which are being implemented on board a satellite operating in low Earth orbit. The project aims to build national capacity in the field of AI algorithm development, enhancing local competencies, stimulating continuous innovation, and consolidating the Kingdom's position as a regional hub for space innovation. These algorithms are dedicated to analysing satellite images in real time, detecting and identifying clouds, estimating their coverage in images, and then automatically replacing them with parts of previous images before transmitting the data to ground stations. This process improves the efficiency of space systems and enhances the quality of the extracted data, which is subsequently used in a variety of applications, such as urban planning, air and water quality monitoring, ship identification and location, and other space-based applications that provide valuable data to a wide range of public and private sector entities. Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the BSA, highlighted that the initiative stands as a major achievement for the organisation, reinforcing Bahrain's status as a frontrunner in the space sector following the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The project also underscores the BSA's international partnerships and the technical and scientific expertise of its staff, which have been instrumental in making this distinguished collaboration possible. Space Engineer Yaqoob Al Qassab noted that the project is among several initiatives designed to strengthen Bahrain's national expertise in developing and integrating AI algorithms with satellite systems. The technical team involved serves as the core of a dedicated Bahraini group focused on applying AI technology in space to support sustainable development goals. He also mentioned that the team is now engaged in a new collaborative project with the same partners, targeting the deployment of advanced algorithms for automated maritime vessel detection from space. This project marks the first Bahraini–Omani cooperation in the space sector, and represents the third Arab–Chinese space cooperation, following the Bahraini–Egyptian–Chinese collaboration on lunar projects.
