Rookie locks in spot with Ravens but wants more than special teams duty

Ravens rookie LaJohntay Wester may have locked in a special teams role, but his ambitions extend beyond special teams. #Ravens OC Todd Monken foresees a larger role for rookie WR/PR LaJohntay Wester on offense:'I think down the road, this year and moving forward, he's going to be a heck of a weapon. … He kind of gives us another novelty for Zay Flowers.' In the end, it won't count. LaJohntay Wester's magical punt return during the Baltimore Ravens' first preseason game sent shockwaves through M&T Bank Stadium. It won't be tallied in his career highlights, nor will the win he helped produce be logged on the season's ledger. Who are we kidding, though? We all felt a slight adrenaline rush as it became certain he was in the clear and no one was catching him from behind. The rookie described it as 'build-up' and 'emotion' pouring over. A sixth-round pick during the most recent NFL Draft, there's just something about this guy. No one dedicates an enormous amount of time discussing this, but landing him that late in the selection meeting feels like a steal. Ravens offensive coordinator raved about him recently. The initial 53-man roster hasn't been released yet, but if we were to read between the lines, we'd assume Wester has locked up the returner role with additional duties to be named later. Again, we're going to assume Wester has ended Baltimore's search for a punt returner. Might he provide a Swiss-Army knife of sorts to the offensive attack? That remains to be seen. Wester appeared in 58 games at the collegiate level, including four seasons with the Florida Atlantic Owls and his most recent with the Colorado Buffaloes, produced 326 receptions, 3,634 yards receiving, and 31 receiving touchdowns. He also racked up another 213 yards and a pair of TDs on 37 carries. There's some potential there. We'll see if the Ravens can find unique ways to deploy him this season.

Fox and ESPN to Offer Streaming Services in $40-a-Month Bundle

(Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co.'s ESPN and Fox Corp. plan to offer a bundled package that will include both of their new streaming services for $40 a month. Sunseeking Germans Face Swiss Backlash Over Alpine Holiday Congestion New York Warns of $34 Billion Budget Hole, Biggest Since 2009 Crisis Three Deaths Reported as NYC Legionnaires' Outbreak Spreads To Head Off Severe Storm Surges, Nova Scotia Invests in 'Living Shorelines' Chicago Schools' Bond Penalty Widens as $734 Million Gap Looms The ESPN sports streaming service and Fox One both launch Aug. 21 and the new bundle will be available starting Oct. 2, the companies said in a statement Monday. The new ESPN app will include access to content from all of the network's channels as well as fantasy sports and highlights, and cost $30 a month on its own. Fox One will combine sports, news and entertainment content from Fox and costs $20 a month by itself. 'This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to delivering premium experiences across platforms and meeting consumers where they are—anytime, anywhere,' Sean Breen, executive vice president of Disney platform distribution, said in the statement. Both companies are catering to new customers as more TV viewers switch from cable to streaming and home entertainment options are proliferating. Disney is offering its new ESPN app as part of a bundle with Hulu and Disney+ for $36 a month, with a promotional price of $30 monthly for the first year. Consumers will also be able to bundle Fox One and Fox News' Fox Nation streaming platform for $25 a month or $240 annually if the plan is purchased at launch. Disney has also partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. to offer a package of HBO Max, Disney+ and Hulu. Fans looking to re-create the cable-TV package to watch sports in the streaming era will have pay at least $84 a month to purchase all the services individually. That includes Thursday Night Football and the big four broadcast networks. It doesn't include the Christmas games on Netflix or YouTube's Sunday Ticket. Disney and Fox previously teamed up with Warner Bros. on a sports streaming joint venture called Venu. They planned to launch the product last summer, but it was delayed and then ulitmately scrapped in January after FubuTV Inc., a sports streaming site, complained that it was anticompetitive. Disney subsequently announced plans to acquire a majority stake in Fubo by merging it with its Hulu + Live TV streaming service. Ravens All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith lands at No. 40 on the NFL's Top 100 list

Baltimore Ravens' All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith was No. 40 on the NFL's Top 100 players list for 2025 The saying "heavy is the head that wears the crown" is a metaphorical expression, and no player on the Ravens roster is under more immense pressure than linebacker Roquan Smith. On offense, quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry are expected to lead a powerful and explosive unit. On defense, Kyle Hamilton is A Swiss army knife, but Roquan Smith is the engine that powers the ship. Baltimore has signature stars on defense, and the NFL just named the All-Pro linebacker No. 40 on the Top 100 players list for 2025. Last season, Smith was voted to his third straight Pro Bowl after he played in 16 regular-season games, logging 154 tackles (81 solo), including 1.5 sacks, four pass defenses (including one interception), one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He finished the 2024 season with the fifth-most tackles in the NFL behind Zaire Franklin (173), Budda Baker (164), Robert Spillane (158), and Jamien Sherwood (158). During the playoffs, Smith played every defensive snap, logging 13 tackles (six solo) over that span. The 2018 first-round pick has been among the league leaders in tackles since being traded by the Bears to Baltimore in October 2022.
