RM51bil defence, security allocation in 13MP show of recognition, says Saifuddin
The Home Minister said strengthening the operational, logistical, and technological capacities of security forces is vital in an increasingly complex world, with rising transborder threats, smuggling, cybercrime, human trafficking, and extremism.
"The modernisation of Malaysia's immigration system via the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) and the adoption of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence is timely.
"It will certainly enhance security at the nation's borders and entry points," he said in a social media post on Thursday (July 31).
He also praised the government's commitment to the welfare of frontliners, particularly members of the police, the Armed Forces, and other security personnel.
'The completion of 1,368 new police quarters and 3,088 quarters for the Armed Forces, along with an additional 8,501 under construction and repairs to 69,141 existing units, shows that the government understands the importance of dignified living conditions for our security forces,' he said.
Saifuddin stressed that expecting high performance from security forces is unrealistic without addressing their fundamental needs, such as comfortable housing, conducive environments, and social security.
'In today's world, a nation's strength isn't just measured by weapons or numbers; it lies in our ability to build a supportive ecosystem for our forces, from training and logistics to welfare," he added.
He also reaffirmed the ministry's full support for the implementation of 13MP, vowing to ensure that all security-related initiatives are carried out efficiently.
'Our mission remains clear: to strengthen domestic security, uphold the rule of law, and protect the peaceful life of every Malaysian,' he said.
He hoped that the noble goals of 13MP would yield lasting results, not just in economic figures but in real, tangible peace, harmony, and unity for the nation.
Saifuddin expressed his appreciation and congratulations to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for tabling the 13MP, describing it as a comprehensive and forward-looking blueprint that aligns with the real needs of the people and the country.
'This is more than just another economic plan. The 13MP redefines growth by embedding values of humanity, social justice, and integrity in governance, along with inclusive progress.
"It reflects a government that is not merely planning for growth, but also for dignity and fairness,' he said.

Kulim airport will complement, not compete with Penang, says Kedah councillor
KUALA KETIL: The state government will press for the inclusion of the Kulim International Airport (KXP) project in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), describing it as crucial not only for Kedah, but also for the nation. State Industry and Investment Committee chairman Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah said the state's vision for a dedicated cargo airport was not intended to compete with Penang, but to complement it while positioning Kedah as a hub for northern regional development. "However, the federal government still views this project as if it is solely for Kedah, when in fact, we see it as a catalyst for northern regional development covering Kedah, Perlis, Penang and northern Perak. "This is a large and high-potential region that deserves federal support," he said at a press conference after a town hall with the Kedah State Development Corporation (PKNK) and industrial players here. Also present was PKNK chief executive officer Datuk Isahak Murat. Haim said the state's push for the project was within national interest. "Kedah is not just for Kedah, Kedah is for Malaysia. We hope the federal government can see the strategic position of the state in becoming an industrial development hub supported by infrastructure such as this cargo airport." He said six of the eight requirements for the project had been met, with only two outstanding, namely, obtaining the aerodrome licence and securing the airport's inclusion in the National Aerospace Strategic Plan. The state government, he added, had also submitted other proposals to Putrajaya for consideration in 13MP. "Many projects, whether related to logistics such as roads, airports and ports, or other aspects of economic development in Kedah, need to be prioritised and expedited," he said. In the town hall, Haim said the issues raised by industrial players were matters that could be addressed through the involvement and commitment of the relevant agencies. "This initiative by PKNK is commendable. The most important step after this session is to compile the list of issues and channel them to the relevant agencies. From there, we will obtain feedback on the timeframe for resolving these matters," he added.

Over 100,000 foreigners in Sabah registered in digital data system
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 113,282 foreigners employed in Sabah's plantation sector have registered in the centralised digital data system. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the system facilitates real-time monitoring and management of foreign workers. He clarified that the digital data collection is unrelated to citizenship or permanent residency issues. The minister spoke after chairing key meetings on foreigner management and citizenship status in Sabah. The meetings were led by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu. Saifuddin Nasution announced plans to expand data collection to agriculture, manufacturing, and mining sectors. A moratorium on enforcement will allow foreign workers time to register under the digital system. He emphasised the need for accurate data to shape policies on foreign residents in Sabah. The state government will provide a specific period for the moratorium's implementation. The meetings also addressed efforts to relocate the Palauh or Bajau Laut community for land-based employment. Saifuddin Nasution refuted claims that the community is neglected, highlighting government initiatives. Additionally, 1,247 out of 2,000 citizenship applications were approved at the JKKSK meeting. These applications spanned from 2021 to last year and were assessed under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution. Article 15A allows for citizenship grants in special circumstances. Committee to review 1,247 Sabah citizenship applications

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 14): A total of 1,247 citizenship applications from Sabah will be evaluated by the newly established Sabah State-Level Special Committee on Citizenship Status, jointly chaired by Federal Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Saifuddin revealed this after chairing the committee's inaugural meeting at Menara Kinabalu today. He said the applications, made under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution, were among more than 2,000 submissions recorded from 2021 to 2024. 'This committee has been established to thoroughly review and recommend decisions on each citizenship application. These include applications involving children born out of wedlock, those under institutional care, and children born to non-citizen parents, among others,' he explained. He added that the committee was formed to expedite decisions on the 1,247 cases currently under its consideration, following a similar mechanism already in place between the Home Ministry and the Sarawak Government. During the meeting, Saifuddin and Hajiji also co-chaired the Central Committee on Foreign Nationals Management, which aims to digitalise data collection efforts.
