Tun Mahathir's Japan Trip Sponsored By Govt He Regularly Attacks
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he approved a government sponsorship totaling RM486,000 for former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's trip to Japan for the Nikkei Forum. The cost covers Dr. Mahathir and seven accompanying delegates.
Speaking to reporters today, Anwar confirmed the sponsorship, explaining that while certain provisions exist for former leaders to make such requests, the final decision rests with the sitting Prime Minister, which he ultimately granted.
The approval comes amidst ongoing public criticism from Dr. Mahathir towards the current MADANI administration since Anwar took office. The veteran statesman has frequently been vocal on various government policies.
In response to these criticisms, Anwar had also directed the anti-corruption agency to investigate Dr. Mahathir and his family over allegations of corruption. However, to date, no proof of Dr. Mahathir's alleged corruption has been presented, nor have any cases been filed against his family. Related

Malaysian universities urged to offer AI programmes, set up AI faculties
TAWAU: The Ministry of Higher Education has called on all universities in the country to offer programmes or establish faculties related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), in preparation for the growing demand for AI talents across various industries. Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has taken the lead in AI education by establishing the country's first AI faculty. 'We have made it clear that all universities should offer and open faculties and programmes related to AI, and the government will continue to monitor the latest developments in this field. 'In addition to AI, we are also seeing new developments in quantum technology,' he told reporters after officiating the appointment ceremony for the chairman of the Sabah Community College Advisory Committee, here today. He said the Ministry is also ready to offer AI-related courses at community colleges nationwide. 'Community colleges will not be bound by rigid course content and will be open to emerging fields. This will enable graduates to be more employable, as their skills are aligned with current market demands,' he said. At the same time, Zambry said the government would review the viability of community colleges that are no longer active or reassess the programmes offered at the inactive colleges. 'This is because some colleges are offering programmes that are not well-suited or have not received good response from the local community or students,' he said. Commenting on the water supply issue at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Zambry said he hoped that the issue could be resolved by the state government, as the ministry and the federal government have channelled RM5 million, including for the construction of underground piping. 'At the UMS level, we are not facing any problems. However, there may be other technical issues, either in terms of the pipeline or the supply volume of water needed for the university's main pipelines,' he added. Zambry also announced an allocation of RM50,000 for each of the nine community colleges in Sabah to support the implementation of various activities.

Close ranks and unite behind Anwar ahead of key elections, says Ramanan
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has urged party members to set aside their differences and unite behind party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as PKR prepares for the upcoming Sabah state election and the 16th general election. He said party unity and internal stability were vital to ensuring the success of the reform agenda championed by Anwar and the party. "The struggle must continue. We need to move on, reunite, and stand firmly with the president to deliver our shared vision. Party unity and stability must be our foundation," he said. Ramanan was speaking after attending the Organisational Strengthening Seminar in Melaka, which also featured a special engagement session with Anwar. The event brought together key leaders and grassroots representatives from across the state, aimed at reinforcing party structures and mobilising support ahead of crucial national polls. "This was not just a symbolic gathering. It served as a concrete platform to reinforce the party's organisational machinery, from the grassroots right up to the central leadership," he added. He said Anwar, in his address, stressed the importance of all members being open-hearted and moving past the differences that arose during the party elections. "He reminded everyone that the election phase is over, and now is the time to close ranks, move forward together, and double down on our efforts for the future of the party and the country. "In his speech, the president also called on members to rebuild ties among themselves, even if some were disheartened by the recent election outcomes." Ramanan also expressed appreciation to the grassroots for their continued commitment, and called on all members to "close ranks" and remain focused on the party's broader mission.
