Inside Ray D'Arcy's family life with wife Jenny and two kids
Ray is one of Ireland's best-known and most popular radio hosts and broadcasts his lively show on RTE every weekday from 3pm to 4.30pm with an always-entertaining mix of chat, comedy and music alongside a wide range of guests.
Recently, the 2FM DJ sadly lost his mother, Mary D'Arcy, after she peacefully passed away in Naas Hospital on Friday, July 18. Ray D'Arcy with his mother Mary and Dustin the Turkey celebrating 10 years of the Ray D'Arcy Show on Today FM in 2010. Pic: James Horan/Collins Photos
A post on RIP.ie says that Mary was predeceased by her husband Ray (Snr) and 'sadly missed by her loving children Joe, Jackie, Ray, Hughie, Anne, Paul, Marianne, Claire and Joan'.
While we all know the sound of his voice from his decades of service in the entertainment industry, here's a look at Ray's life away from the studio.
Ray was born into a family of nine in Kildare in 1964. His father worked as a non-commission officer.
Entertainment was his goal from the start, with Ray kicking-off his long DJ career in 1979 at the age of 15. He then attended Trinity College in Dublin to study psychology and graduated in 1985.
Ray met his wife, Jenny Kelly, back in 2005 when they began working together on his show at Today FM and the couple kept their relationship private at first.
Jenny was working at the show before Ray joined with the presenter and explained that she was there to help transition the programme from one host to another. Ray and Jenny tied the knot in 2013. Pic: VIPIRELAND.COM
Ray has previously shared that they had a platonic relationship at first, developing a romance only after becoming close friends.
The RTE host revealed their relationship for the first time live on-air during a chat with Miriam O'Callaghan on her show Saturday Night with Miriam.
Ray and Jenny got married in August 2013 at Tankardstown House in Slane, Co Meath.
The couple have gone on to have two children, a daughter and a son.
Their daughter Kate was born in November 2006, making her 18 years old today.
Meanwhile, their son Tom, who is now 13, was born in June 2012. Ray has been a long-standing icon of Irish media. Pic: Kieran Harnett
Ray has shared that one of the key reasons for his happy home life is that he and Jenny are first and foremost 'best friends'. He also added that the couple both gave up drinking and it brought 'calm' into their lives.
Recently, Kate underwent her Leaving Cert and Ray commented on how they were supporting her through what can be a very stressful time for young students.
He told the RTE Guide: 'I was talking to a guy recently and he described having somebody in Leaving Cert as playing that winter Olympic sport (curling), where you push the thing down and then everybody paves the way in front of it.
'It's like that and we're happy to do that. We're there for whatever she wants.
'I still have nightmares about my Leaving Cert all these years later. Now, I don't share that with Kate.'
He also discussed what it is like for a parent to see their child enter their teenage years, after Tom turned 13.
Ray added: 'Kate has been a teenager for five years, so she went off and did her own thing. And we're going to lose Tom soon now because he's hitting 13 next month.
'You can just see it – I asked him for a hug the other day on the couch and he wasn't up for it. The same evening his mother asked for a hug but she got one.'

Speaking several years ago to the Independent, Ray spoke of how his relationship with his mother had changed over the years.
He shared: 'I didn't hug my mum until six or seven years ago.
'But I hug her all the time now and tell her that I love her. I'd never have done that years ago but as you get older, especially when you have your own children, you see the world differently.
'Also when you have children, you want to keep the generations connected and you feel more of a pull home.
'You want your children to be part of this family and to know the mother that you knew.'
Ray began working for RTE Raidió na Gaeltachta after graduating from Trinity College in 1985.
He then joined RTE television as a presenter on Jo Maxi in 1988 and stayed at the station for 13 years. Ray D'Arcy on Blackboard Jungle many years ago. Pic: RTE
During his time there he took on many different roles from working on The Den from 1990 to 1998 and presenting You're A Star.
In the late 1990's, Ray moved to Today FM but eventually returned to the national broadcaster in 2014 to present The Ray D'Arcy Show.
It was later announced that Jenny would join him at RTE to produce the new show, which began airing every weekday from 3pm to 4.30pm.

Building traditions as Rekindle Festival returns to Ennistymon
Ennistymon's Rekindle Festival will return for its fourth year with a celebration of tradition, community and creativity on Friday, August 15, and Saturday, August 16 as part of National Heritage Week. Organised by Common Knowledge - which shares skills through hands-on courses in areas such as building, growing, making, and mending - Clare's Rekindle Festival invites people to reconnect with craft, music, food, and one another. Local and global voices take part in a shared celebration of heritage and living tradition. Centred around traditional skills and community knowledge, the 2025 festival programme includes: live music; food; craft workshops; storytelling; and thoughtful conversations. Rekindle opens with Lasraí, an evening of live performance and shared experience under the Burren sky. This year's concert features master uilleann piper, Paddy Keenan; dancer and organiser, Edwina Guckian; Irish-Palestinian singer, Róisín El Cherif; and surprise guest artists from across the country. The aim is to create a space where stories, rhythms and roots ignite. The Rekindle festival day in Ennistymon town centre on Saturday comprises a full day of free public events spread across the town, bringing streets and shopfronts to life in the festival hub at Courthouse Gallery from 2:00p.m to 4:00p.m. The programme includes 'Meet the Makers' craft demos; traditional music sessions; a heritage market and an outdoor céilí with Louise O'Connor and the Rekindle band. There will also be talks on traditional farm methods including Irish scything for regenerative methods of managing the land. A Rekindle trail from 10:00a.m to 8:00p.m will incorporate a town-wide trail of pop-up events, skill-sharing and heritage installations that reflect the culture and creativity of north Co. Clare. A relaxed gathering of music, story, and reflection to end the festival day will take place in Cooley's pub at 6:00p.m. New this year is 'Spreag', which aims to inspire community action through traditional skills. Eco-builder, Harrison Gardner, and blacksmith, Reece Foster, will speak on how craft can support local resilience and climate action. People can explore how traditional arts can build stronger rural communities through shared movement and story in a workshop with Edwina Guckian. The 'Land and Lore' artisan food market will showcase local food rooted in place and practice, featuring producers, foragers, fermenters, and bakers from north Co. Clare. Festival producer, Aoife Hammond, said that Rekindle is about remembering and reigniting. Hammond said: "We honour the past by actively shaping the present through music, food, movement and making." "Rekindle Festival is where heritage meets hands‑on practice. "Watching regenerative farming demonstrations and heritage keepers speak about soil health, seed saving and biodiversity reminds me that traditional land‑wise farming isn't just about crop yield. "It's about preserving wisdom, nurturing community, and growing resilient systems for the future," she said. ‘It's been a difficult few months', says Joanna Donnelly as she opens up on life after shock RTE departure
'I've been concentrating on getting well and healing' OFF AIR 'It's been a difficult few months', says Joanna Donnelly as she opens up on life after shock RTE departure JOANNA Donnelly has opened up on life since her shock departure from RTE, admitting it's "been a difficult few months". The meteorologist announced her departure from the national broadcaster during her final forecast on RTE's Nine O'Clock News earlier this year. The 54-year-old then cleared the air regarding her exit, adding: "This is not a decision I came to lightly by any means. It was a very, very hard decision to make." The former Dancing With The Stars contestant confessed that she left the station as she felt it was the "right" move for herself and her family. The TV star revealed that she would not be back on screens "for a while" and added: "I have to take some time and look after myself." Advertisement Joanna has now spoken out about how life has been since stepping away from the role. She told Evoke: "The last few months have been very difficult for me, and I've been concentrating on getting well and healing, so I haven't really had much energy to think about what I'm going to do next." Reflecting on the challenges moving forward, she added: "I'm a middle-aged woman, and I'm only middle-aged if you count living to 110 [years old], so the world isn't screaming for us to apply for everything. It's a tricky one, but no, I hope I'm not on the scrap heap just yet." When asked if she sees this time in her life as a setback or a new beginning, Joanna said: "I think if I didn't think that there was some hope or prospect or opportunity, then I wouldn't have done it. Advertisement "I wouldn't have left the nice pensionable civil service job. I wouldn't have done that easily. I didn't do it easily. And yes, I'm absolutely excited to see what comes next." And looking into the future, the presenter admitted it isn't easy to picture what's next after three decades in the same role. Joanna Donnelly shows off new hair She explained: "I mean, it was 30 years of me doing essentially the same job, now, different aspects in the same job. And, certainly in the last few years, with media experience, that's kind of changed the scope of my job somewhat. "But still, you work yourself into a kind of, not a rut, but into a very small niche in a large market. It's hard to see what I want to do next. I don't really have a vision because I didn't really think about doing anything other than the job I was doing, because I loved the job I was doing, of course." "There's a bird singing and somewhere there's somebody chopping wood. The sun's shining. The tree house is beautiful. And breathe.'
