‘Outwork System, Outbuild Giants': Soham Parekh's Advice For Tech Workers Amid Layoffs
TCS plans to lay off 12,000 employees, about 2 percent of its workforce, to realign its strategy amid evolving tech needs.
Tech giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced to lay off around 12,000 employees—or roughly 2 per cent of its global workforce—over the course of the current financial year.
The move is part of the company's broader effort to realign its workforce strategy and position itself as a 'future-ready" organisation, amid evolving technology and operational requirements.
The industry is in shock with many criticising the move while others see it as inevitable with the rise of artificial intelligence in the sector.
Meanwhile, Soham Parekh, the Indian tech professional who shot to infamy for working full-time at multiple startups simultaneously, weighed in on the layoffs news and offered advice to tech professionals.
Reacting to a post that claimed 'TCS will freeze the hiring of experienced personnel and pause annual salary increases globally," Parekh advised techies to outwork the system.
'Don't wait for handouts. Learn fast. Build harder. Your skills are your leverage. Outwork the system. Outlearn the gatekeepers. Outbuild the giants," he said in a post on X.
His reaction came after TCS confirmed that the layoffs will primarily affect middle and senior management positions. The company stated that rehiring for these roles would not be feasible.
'Several reskilling and redeployment programs have been in progress. However, some associates will be released as their roles cannot be restructured to match future demands," TCS said in its official statement.
The decision, which marks one of the largest retrenchment drives in TCS's history, comes amid multiple structural challenges — ranging from margin pressures and skill mismatches to disruption from artificial intelligence (AI). TCS currently employs over 6.13 lakh people.
Who Is Soham Parekh?
Soham Parekh, an Indian software engineer based in Mumbai, made the headlines after he was publicly accused by Suhail Doshi, co-founder of Playground AI and former Mixpanel CEO, of secretly working full-time at 3–4 US-based startups simultaneously, including Y Combinator‑backed firms such as Dynamo AI and Synthesia.
Parekh admitted to this in an interview, explaining that dire financial hardship forced him into the arrangement and that he often worked 140-hour weeks. While some praised his technical skill, most expressed concern over the ethical breach.

India receives Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft from Spain
India on Saturday received the last of its 16 Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft from Spain, marking an important milestone in strengthening its defence capabilities, the Indian Embassy in Spain said. The C-295, a transport aircraft of 5-10 tonne capacity with contemporary technology, is set to replace the ageing Avro aircraft of the IAF. Indian Ambassador to Spain Dinesh K Patnaik, along with senior Indian Air Force officials, received the last of the 16 Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft at the Airbus Defence and Space assembly line in Seville, the Indian mission posted on social media. 'The delivery, two months ahead of schedule, marks an important milestone in strengthening India's defence capabilities,' it added. The aircraft, with a flight endurance of up to 11 hours, is a versatile and efficient tactical transport aircraft. India signed a contract with Airbus Defence & Space, Spain, for acquisition of 56 C-295MW transport aircraft for IAF in Sep 2021. Under the C-295 programme, a total of 56 aircraft are to be delivered, of which 16 were to be delivered directly by Airbus from Spain, and the remaining 40 will be manufactured in India. Spain fulfilled that commitment on Saturday by handing over the last of the 16 aircraft. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez, had jointly inaugurated the TATA Aircraft Complex for manufacturing C-295 aircraft at TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) Campus in Vadodara, Gujarat, in October last year. TASL is responsible for making these 40 aircraft in India. This facility becomes the first private sector Final Assembly Line (FAL) for military aircraft in India. It will involve the full development of a complete ecosystem from the manufacture to assembly, test and qualification, to delivery and maintenance of the complete lifecycle of the aircraft. Apart from Tatas, leading defence public sector units such as Bharat Electronics Ltd. and Bharat Dynamics Ltd, as well as private Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises will contribute to this programme.

CPI (M) wants Puducherry government to drop move to install prepaid smart meters
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday called for suspending move to introduce prepaid smart meters to bill electricity usage in the Union Territory. Speaking to reporters, CPI (M) secretary S. Ramachandran said the party had already conducted a signature campaign in protest against the Central government's plan for privatising the power sector in the Union Territory. Now, the territorial government has planned to introduce prepaid digital meters for an estimated 4.7 lakh consumers in the region and placed orders with a Mumbai-based company. Mr. Ramachandran said the proposal initiated would also require the consumer to foot about ₹9,000 towards installation cost. This was an unwarranted and unjustifiable burden on consumers, especially as this payment was on top of the security deposit levied at the time of issuing the connection, he said. Besides affecting the common man and farmers, the installation of prepaid meters would pave the way for privatisation of the power sector in the Union Territory, Mr. Ramachandran said. The CPI (M) would launch a major stir if the proposal was not withdrawn, he added.
