Baker confident O'Invincible can rise to the top
The three-year-old was being set for the Scone carnival but Baker's racing manager Luke Hilton said a minor issue following her first trial in early April meant those plans had to be changed.
After a quick reset, she showed her readiness to return in the Broadsiding @ Darley Handicap (1000m) with a trial win two weeks ago.
'We did pencil in a stakes race at Scone for her, but she had a setback and we had to cool our jets with her,' Hilton said.
'She just needed a bit of time. Bjorn's been patient with her, and she's back in good order now and trialled well leading into this. This is a nice kick-off point for her and hopefully she can reach the levels we think she can.'
O'Invincible won on debut at Hawkesbury in early December and scored her second win in the stewards room at Wyong just before Christmas.
Hilton said the stable has always had a good opinion of the daughter of Viddora, a two-time Group 1 winner who also contested the 2018 TAB Everest, and is confident she'll give herself every chance.
'We've been really pleased with her, her work on Saturday was great and the trails have been very good,' he said. 'She's got good tactical speed and can put herself on speed, she's not a very big filly so carrying the weight is probably the biggest challenge for her.'
Stardeel is something of a work in progress for the Baker team and Hilton said if he's able to win the TAB Handicap (1150m) first-up it'll be a bonus.

'The 1400m and a mile is going to be her and those early races could potentially be a bit sharp.' Stefi Magnetica gave both Baker and Collett the biggest wins of their careers when she won the Group 1 Doncaster Mile on Day 1 of The Championships. Another big spring campaign looms. 'She is going to head towards weight-for-age racing now because she has won two of the biggest handicaps (including the Stradbroke),' Collett said. 'I have no worries she will be able to do it. He isn't one to set specific premiership targets at the beginning of a season but the carrot of finishing second in the Sydney title race for the first time added fuel to his late form surge. A midweek treble at Warwick Farm helped Collett eclipse his previous season best of 72 Sydney winners and edge out Zac Lloyd (67 winners) for the runner-up spot. 'When it got to the last month and a half and I thought I was obviously close enough to Zac, I thought we will try and get second if we can,' Collett said. '(wife) Clare and I had a family holiday booked in early July but in saying that, as it evolved, I thought if we were close enough it would be good to get. 'As it turned out it ended up being quite comfortable in the end.' • Schiller gets green light for early spring return Collett can pick up where he left off and get the new season off to a flying start aboard the Chris Waller-trained Narbold in the Capitivant @ Kia Ora Benchmark 72 Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Waller runners will make up half of the field in the opener with Narbold ($4.20) only shaded by Amusing ($2.90 favourite) in betting. Collett partnered Narbold two starts ago when a close second behind Centenario in a 1550m event at Canterbury before the gelding finishing fourth behind Amusing at the same track and trip last start. 'He just seemed to find one better when he loomed up two starts ago off a good tempo,' Collett said. 'His run last start was good when he was ridden on speed and I think he is better when he's ridden a bit quieter. 'From the barrier he should get a soft run in what looks to be a small field.' Cold Brew, a $4.80 chance, has put together victories at Hawkesbury and Newcastle and deserves another crack in town. 'He's in a Midway horses where there is a few older horses there but he's progressive,' Collett said. 'I am looking forward to him. 'The ground will no doubt be a question mark for every horse but he is going well and when I rode him two back he won easily. 'He was tough last start when they got to him and he was a bit green but he is going well.' • NSW racing in the hands of weather gods Collett is hopeful King Taurus ($15) can bring his polytrack form to town in the TAB Highway Class 3 Handicap (1200m) while he's happy to wait patiently for the chance to pilot Catch The Glory ($15) late in the card. The Jason Coyle-trained Catch The Glory ($15) is second-up in the Congratulations Chris Waller Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m). 'I think Catch The Glory is a good ride,' Collett said. 'She was out of her grade last start but had been trialling up really well. 'She is out of Zousain so should handle the wet and I think she is going well this horse.' Racing is expected to take place on another heavy track in Sydney with rain forecast on Friday and race day. Few ride wet conditions better than Collett. 'I don't have any secret to it, it's just get them to travel and balance and if they get through it, they get through it,' Collett said.

Champion jockey James McDonald returns on final day of metro season to celebrate ninth Sydney jockeys' premiership
Sydney storms put a dampener on champion hoop James McDonald 's racing return on Wednesday – but nothing could stop the star rider celebrating a seventh consecutive Sydney jockeys' title. McDonald went without a win on his first day back riding in Sydney in more than a month at Warwick Farm but didn't need one to officially move within touching distance of George Moore's all-time Sydney premiership record. His latest title success, his 10th in total, has been a fait accompli for several months. McDonald finished the 2024/25 campaign with 83 city winners to sit comfortably clear of Jason Collett (74 winners) and Zac Lloyd (67 winners). Next season McDonald is the hot favourite to add a 10th premiership and equal Moore's long held record in Sydney racing. He can also equal Moore's amazing feat of eight straight Sydney titles, which was achieved on a historic run from 1961-62 to 1968-69. McDonald's latest haul is the least victories he's had in a premiership-winning season since winning his first in 2013-14 with 72 winners. • Angela Jones seals historic Brisbane jockeys' premiership But the coveted crown has come with a sensational winning strike rate in town of just over 25 per cent while juggling international commitments in Hong Kong and the Middle East as well as several interstate raids. His partnership with soon-to-be horse of the year Via Sistina helped propel him to a career best season of 21 Group 1 victories with a personal record of more than $59m in prizemoney earned for connections. McDonald can kick the new season off on a high note with seven rides at Saturday's Rosehill Gardens meeting. It will also see the metropolitan return of leading apprentice Braith Nock, who added his name to one of Sydney racing's most coveted honour rolls. Nock has spent the final two weeks of the campaign on the sidelines through suspension but did more than enough to celebrate his maiden apprentices' title with 40 winners for the campaign. Chris Waller (142 winners) continued his remarkable reign at the top of the tree of the Sydney training ranks which has now stretched for 15 seasons. Premiership winners will be celebrated at Saturday's Rosehill Gardens card, which coincides with the Australian Turf Club's Jockey Celebration Day. Australian Turf Club head of racing and wagering Nevesh Ramdhani paid tribute to the premiership winners. 'Sydney has world-class jockeys and trainers who help to make our racing the equal of any centre 52 weeks a year,'' Ramdhani said. 'It is fitting we celebrate the premiership winners whilst hosting a large number of retired jockeys who have created their own history and memories on Sydney tracks.'
