Bid to stop delivery E-bikes using Kingston Bridge
A Glasgow Council city official revealed how she had spotted cyclists on the city centre M8 stretch herself.
She said the local authority is looking to erect signs to warn them to steer clear of the 10 lane motorway for safety reasons.
Responding to concerns expressed about takeaway delivery cyclists at a committee this week, she said efforts were being made to 'try and target deliveries on bikes going on places like the Kingston Bridge.'
She told councillors: 'We are looking at putting up signage to restrict them going on the bridge.
"I have even seen them myself – you are driving along and then there is a Just East driver next to you.'
There have been various reports of risk-taking cyclists being seen on the busy bridge, with incidents reported to the police.
Speaking at the environment and liveable neighbourhoods city policy committee, the officer said there had been an information campaign in George Square with leaflets handed out over the issues.
The official was responding to points raised by councillor Anthony Carroll, asking about engagement with companies regarding delivery cyclists.
Councillor Stephen Docherty told the committee how delivery E-bikes have been parked in the middle of the pavement on St Vincent Street – causing an obstruction.
Responding the official said: 'I have seen that myself outside restaurants – I will take those points back for engagement with businesses.'
The matters were discussed during a road safety update presented to the committee on Tuesday.
Four people were killed on Glasgow's roads in 2024 compared to 14 in 2023. A total of 210 people were seriously injured last year – and 21 of them were children.
A council report said: 'Since the unprecedented rise in fatal collisions recorded in 2023, there has been a significant improvement in road safety performance across Glasgow. The city is now back on track to achieve the Scottish Government's 2030 casualty reduction targets.
It added: 'However, it is essential that we do not become complacent. Continued investment in road safety education, training, publicity, and engineering measures remains crucial as we work towards our Vision Zero target – a future where no one is killed or seriously injured on Glasgow's roads by 2030.'

The decision came after feminist group For Women Scotland (FWS) challenged the Scottish Government's 2018 ruling that transgender women could be included as female in laws requiring 50/50 representation on public boards. Bryson backs plans by Victoria McCloud, the UK's only judge to ever publicly say they are transgender, to challenge the government at the European Court of Human Rights over the ruling and plans her own appeal there. Speaking to the Sunday Mail in a phone call from jail, Bryson said: 'No matter what you think or how you look at it, trans women will always be women. "Even if you don't agree with it, then that's your opinion. We are not going to go away. Sooner or later judges will have to put trans women back in women's prisons because if they don't, trans women have the right to take it to the European court and they will. 'If they win and the courts say women have to go to women's prisons, I will probably get moved to a women's prison.' After the outcry over Bryson, trans prisoners faced a move to male jails but prison chiefs opted to let them stay if they had not shown violence to women. However, Alba MSP Ash Regan said: 'The perversity of a double rapist demanding access to women's prisons sums up why we must end this dangerous experiment of gender ideology eroding sex-based rights – male entitlement masquerading as rights must never be at the expense of women's safety, dignity and consent. 'Eight weeks after the Supreme Court ruling, ministers dither while lobbyists stoke the mis-information they helped create. 'Now even Isla Bryson/Adam Graham – the double rapist who shocked the nation – joins a small but vocal chorus in demanding the law be overturned to allow him access to a woman's jail. 'If this is not the wake-up call needed for John Swinney's government, then a third first minister may be sacrificed on the altar of gender ideology.' Scottish Tory shadow minister for victims Sharon Dowey said: 'These abhorrent comments from a double rapist will anger Scots. Not only is this call deeply insulting to his victims, it also highlights how the SNP's gender self-ID policy has become so embedded in Scotland's justice system.' FWS's Susan Smith said: 'For all the activists and politicians who've been trying to undermine the Supreme Court ruling and claim this about walking groups and toilets, this intervention from a notorious double rapist highlights it is vulnerable women whose safety would be threatened by any challenge or change to the law.' The Scottish Prison Service said it had received the Supreme Court ruling and is 'considering any potential impact it may have'. The Scottish Government said it 'has been clear that we accept the Supreme Court judgement'.

Speaking at a fringe event at the Scottish Conservative conference, For Women Scotland's Marion Calder said people needed to challenge organisations failing to implement the law. 'We are possibly going to have to go back to court in order to get some of the government policies — especially policies in prison — changed. There are still at least four male murderers in the women's prison estate in Scotland, and that is a shocking fact. 'But we have [the Supreme Court judgment] now, and this is a fantastic basis to go forward.' Speaking to journalists later, she said: 'We have spoken to the Scottish Government and asked them to withdraw some of this guidance — just even say it is under review. They do not have to reissue anything at this point, but because it is clearly unlawful, we really do need some action. 'They are telling us they have to wait for the EHRC revised guidance. We do not believe this is true.' She pointed to comments from the EHRC stating that the judgment is effective immediately, and that those with duties under the Equality Act 2010 should already be complying with the law. Ms Calder said: 'And of course, the risk to the Scottish Government if they do not act is that, if a woman is assaulted in prison next week by one of these male convicts, their liability will have skyrocketed. 'In any case, the Scottish Government tells us that the Scottish Prison Service sets its own policy — that it is an arm's-length organisation — but any case would be taken against the Scottish ministers. 'So I think they need to start to step up and take a bit of responsibility, because these things are under their remit.' Ms Calder said she believed ministers were reluctant to act as they were 'worried about a legal challenge from the other side'. 'But my message to them would be — they should be more worried about a legal challenge from the people who have the law on their side,' she added.
