The UAE tops the global mobile internet speed chart in 2025 with 546.14 Mbps, followed by Qatar and Kuwait, as per Speedtest Global Index's latest data. Check full list here.
In today's hyper-connected world, where over 5.56 billion people are online globally, mobile internet is increasingly outpacing desktop use, thanks largely to the worldwide rollout of 5G. As internet speeds surge, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has emerged as the global leader in mobile connectivity, boasting the fastest mobile internet in the world.
According to the Speedtest Global Index (June 2025) by Ookla, users in the UAE enjoy a median mobile download speed of 546.14 Mbps — a staggering figure that reflects the nation's aggressive investment in digital infrastructure. Closely following are other Gulf countries including Qatar (517.44 Mbps), Kuwait (378.45 Mbps), and Bahrain (236.77 Mbps), further establishing the Middle East as a hotspot for high-speed mobile internet.
Interestingly, Brazil (228.89 Mbps) and Bulgaria (224.46 Mbps) have also made their way into the top 10, alongside South Korea (218.06 Mbps), China (201.67 Mbps), Saudi Arabia (198.39 Mbps), and Denmark (196.27 Mbps).
The report notes that global median mobile speeds have jumped by more than 80% over the last two years, driven by broader 5G adoption and the growing demand for seamless mobile connectivity.
Meanwhile, India has climbed to the 26th position globally, recording a median download speed of 133.51 Mbps. This marks a notable improvement of three spots from its previous ranking, reflecting steady progress in network performance across the country.
While the United States, despite its tech dominance, sits at 14th place with 165.57 Mbps, the latest rankings underscore how Asia and the Middle East are leading the world in mobile internet performance in 2025.

Tata Steel eyes Rs 7,000-crore gross merchandise value from Aashiyana in FY26

Kolkata, Aug 10 (PTI) Tata Steel is aiming to double the gross merchandise value (GMV) to around Rs 7,000 crore of its homebuilding e-commerce platform 'Aashiyana' in the 2025-26 fiscal, a senior company official said. The steel major is also considering onboarding non-Tata Steel products for the first time to expand offerings in the domain, he said. 'All of the GMV on 'Aashiyana' currently comes from Tata Steel products, but we do plan to expand our offerings in the near future," Tata Steel VP (Long Products) Ashish Anupam told PTI. The platform recorded a GMV of Rs 3,550 crore in 2024-25, registering a 60 per cent year-on-year growth, and with the rollout of 'Aashiyana 3.0' – the newly launched version of the platform – Tata Steel expects to double the GMV over the next one year, he said. Initially launched as a transactional e-commerce site, 'Aashiyana' has now evolved into a full-fledged content-to-commerce ecosystem designed specifically for individual home builders (IHBs) – a largely unorganised but significant segment of India's construction market, officials said. 'With 'Aashiyana', we are not just digitising the buying process, we are empowering individual homebuilders to make confident, informed decisions from blueprint to brick," Anupam said. The steel behemoth said its upgraded platform offers over 300 curated home design plans, budget calculators, planning tools and AI-powered product recommendations. It also provides access to stage-by-stage construction guides, educational content across 31 topics, and omnichannel support through WhatsApp and chatbots. The platform has crossed 1.1 lakh registered users and seen strong uptake from the Indian diaspora. Orders have been placed from customers across 24 countries, led by the US, UAE and the Netherlands, the officials said. 'There's a growing interest among NRIs to build homes back in India for their families. 'Aashiyana' allows them to remotely plan and procure materials with greater confidence for their requirement back home," he said. By offering tools such as material estimators, document vaults and visual inspiration boards, Tata Steel is aiming to position 'Aashiyana' not just as a commerce platform but as a homebuilding advisor, Anupam said. Anupam hopes that 'Aashiyana 3.0' will deepen consumer engagement, reduce acquisition costs and improve brand stickiness through a more intuitive and immersive digital experience. KITE launches online AI Training for Lakshadweep teachers

Agency: PTI Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 9 (PTI) Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the technology arm of the state General Education Department, has initiated an online Artificial Intelligence (AI) training program for teachers across the nine islands of the union territory Lakshadweep. The training module is an updated version of the AI program previously conducted by KITE for 80,000 teachers in Kerala, officials said. It utilises the same online training platform that was made available to the public under the name 'AI Essentials", according to KITE authorities. 'The first phase of this training involves all 110 post-graduate teachers, who are divided into five batches. The program will be completed in one month, with one mentor assigned to every 20 teachers," K Anvar Sadath, the Chief Executive Officer of KITE, said on Saturday while launching the training programme. Stating that the course content is structured into five distinct sections, he said the first section, 'AI at Your Fingertips,' introduces practical applications of AI while covering its history, development, and future possibilities. The second section, 'AI Art Gallery,' focuses on using AI to create and enhance images, design logos and posters, and even build 3D models. The third section, 'Mastering AI,' offers hands-on training in prompt engineering and the use of AI for reading and data analysis. The fourth section, 'AI in Everyday Life,' provides practical training on how to use AI in areas such as music, coding, video production, and learning. The final section concludes the training by providing an understanding of how to use AI responsibly and familiarising participants with the technical terms used in the field, he explained. Sadath stated that the organisation would provide training to all Lakshadweep teachers, including in the field of robotics. 'Robotics has been incorporated into the revised Class 10 ICT textbooks, which are used since the islands follow the Kerala curriculum. To facilitate this, KITE will also provide robotics kits to schools in Lakshadweep," he added. Besides Sadath, Lakshadweep's Director of Education Padmar Ram Tripathi, Senior Administrative Officer E. Raveendranathan, and K K Shanawas of the Academic Section spoke during the online launch of the training programme here.
