71st National Film Awards: Vikrant Massey Competes For Best Actor; Announcement Begins At 6 PM
National Film Awards 2025 Updates: The winners of the 71st National Film Awards for the year 2023 will be officially announced today, August 1. After weeks of evaluation, the jury is expected to hand over its final report to Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister L Murugan at 4 PM.
A press conference is scheduled for 6 PM at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, where jury members will unveil the winners across all major categories. Media representatives have been asked to gather by 5:30 PM.
Meanwhile, the anticipation is high, with Vikrant Massey (12th Fail) and Rani Mukerji (Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway) emerging as frontrunners for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively – both having earned critical praise for their standout performances.
Senior Journalist Subhash K Jha quoted a source as saying, 'Vikrant Massey's performance in 12th Fail is getting him the National Award. It is final." The source also mentioned, 'For the National award for Best Actress, Rani Mukerji is a very strong contender for her role in the film, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, and there are also two actresses from the South also in the reckoning."
Though nothing is confirmed yet, anticipation runs high among Vikrant Massey's fans, who are eagerly hoping to see his long-cherished dream come true. In an earlier interview with News18 Showsha, the actor had shared that winning a National Award had been a childhood aspiration ever since he dreamt of becoming an actor.
Reacting to the buzz around 12th Fail's speculated National Award win, Vikrant told us, 'I hope it does. And I'm sorry, without cost of sounding pompous, and with utmost humility. I hope it does. I hope the film wins an award. I hope Vidhu Vinod Chopra wins an award. I hope I win an award. I've always aspired for one."
'I've prayed for one when I was that young kid wanting to become an actor, I always wanted a National Award because that's the greatest achievement an actor in India can have, to be presented with an award by the President of the country. And I hope it happens. So, fingers crossed," the actor added.
At the 70th National Film Awards, Rishab Shetty bagged the Best Actor honour for his powerful performance in the Kannada blockbuster Kantara. The Best Actress title was jointly awarded to Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for Kutch Express.
