Mrs. Pretoria-Tshwane 2023 dies after brief illness

The Citizen16-07-2025
Shannon Bilijon, Mrs. Pretoria-Tshwane 2023 and founder of a charity that provided thousands of school shoes to children, has died at the age of 49 after a brief illness.
She passed away in the hospital on Friday, just six days after being admitted with a fever that revealed early-stage kidney failure.
Her husband told the media that blood tests indicated Shannon was in the early stages of kidney failure, after which she was admitted to the intensive care unit.
It is believed her lungs and heart failed within just six days.
Shannon was crowned Mrs. Pretoria-Tshwane 2023.
She and Marius started a charity organisation. Shoose Life has since ensured that more than 20,000 pairs of school shoes, made from recycled materials, have found a home.
Over the past year, she also poured her energy into the couple's restaurant in Garsfontein. The pair met in 2021 and married the following year.
She is survived by her adult son and daughter.
Messages of condolence have since poured in on social media, with many paying tribute to her kindness and the impact she had.
Shannon will be laid to rest on July 18 at 11:00 AM, with the service taking place at Faith City Church in Centurion.
Mrs. Johannesburg 2025, Thandiwe G. Melato, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media:
'Oh dear Shannon… Why did you break our hearts like this? What a special human you were — a powerful woman of God, dedicated to transforming lives and making a great impact in this world. You will be missed dearly, sis. Thank you for your kindness to me and the love you so proudly shared with the world. Rest in Glory, sis.'
She added, 'What an unexpected transition. May your husband Marius, children, family, and loved ones be comforted in this difficult time. May they find strength in the Lord.'

Biggest Lamb Champs comes to Loftus

The search for the best lamb in South Africa brought 7 000 people to Loftus Stadium this week as the annual Lamb Champs competition took place. Music, food, and enjoyment with friends and family were the order of the day, all centred around mouth-watering lamb meat. Artists like Ricus Nel, Jan Jan Jan, and Ichnus had feet tapping, while the smell of lamb on the spit kept everyone anticipating the feast that was coming. This is the fourth time that this annual event has taken place, and CEO of The Southern African Agri Initiative (SAAI), Francois Rossouw, says that this past weekend was the largest they've ever held. Some were brave enough to enter the ice competition, and 40 entrants even took to the stage to eat a sheep's head. 'It's about what the consumer thinks about the lamb, how they experience and what the taste is like. So, we invite farmers from all nine provinces to come showcase their lamb. 'We invite the public as well because we want to shorten the value chain, and we want to introduce the consumer to the farmer. 'We don't have this connection any more between the consumer, who has someone who has stayed on a farm or knows someone who owns a farm. 'We want them to meet the farmers who produce the meat we enjoy on the braai on a Saturday,' Rossouw said. JP Nel of the Enkelbos Farm, in the Stella district, North West, emerged as the winner of Lamb Champs Pretoria 2025 with his Blackhead Dorper. His lamb impressed the judges and earned him first place. Do you have more information about the story? Please send us an email to [email protected] or phone us on 083 625 4114. ‘Electric' live show brings radio magic to Pretoria venue

Pretoria residents were treated to a spectacle of live music and radio show magic during the 2025 Anele and the Club Live show at SunBet Arena, Time Square, on Saturday night, July 19. The electric event, back by popular demand, was presented by 947 and included appearances by hosts Anele Mdoda, Frankie du Toit, Thembekile Mrototo, and Cindy Poluta. Audiences were treated to giveaways and quizzes as well as performances by Matthew Mole, Nasty C, Boity Thulo, Will Linley, Chrizz Beatz, and Anaya Sounds, to name a few. Those in attendance described the atmosphere as 'electric'. According to attendees, it felt 'unchoreographed and spontaneous' – a seamless ride from one moment to the next. During the performance, locals were also treated to a nostalgic surprise: Nige – the legendary face from the classic CTM commercials – made an appearance. Actor Peter Terry reprised his role to introduce the new faces of CTM's bold campaign: Carla, the stylish trendsetter, Tito the charming deal breaker, and Mario the ultimate DIY guy. CTM's fresh brand campaign, officially launched at the event, blends heritage with modern flair echoing the company's long-standing promise of fashion-forward design, trusted quality, and smart affordability. It's a new era, but with a respectful nod to Bob and Nige's legacy from the iconic 1996–2006 CTM ads. Do you have more information about the story?
