As both the temperatures and the news cycle continue to heat up, it's important for us to carve out small moments for ourselves, wherever we can find them.
While it looks different for everyone, as a self-professed skin care girlie (edit: grown woman), taking care of my skin and indulging in a luxury scent are always at the top of my self-care list. Some may fail to understand that indulgence is a necessary form of rebellion, but for me, in this moment, it truly is.
But also, these bills …
So for a skin-care, spa-loving mom on a budget like myself, I'm always looking to maximize pampering with affordability. So, I jumped at the chance to try out Dove's line of beloved body scrubs, back on the shelves with new scents and larger containers, still at the same affordable price point.
A staple of TikTok influencers and Reddit recommendations, the Dove Body Scrubs are known for their formulas that provide rich and gentle exfoliation while also incorporating moisturization. Exfoliation is certainly a buzzy part of any skin care routine, but it's critical to remember that everything isn't for everyone, and the last thing you need is to irritate your skin. So be sure to do your own research. That said, Dove is very confident in their product and stands by the claims made by their own in-house research team.

The Dove team invited HelloBeautiful to experience the scrubs with an exclusive spa service at Spencer's Spa in New York City. The team answered questions about the formula and allowed us to compare Dove's formula to unnamed competitors on the market. The experience itself was luxurious, but my primary goal was to understand what sets Dove apart and to provide an honest review of the product for you.
What stood out to me, aside from the formula, was the richness of Dove's product as averse to the competitors, some of which felt too watery or too dry. Dove tells HB that it's because they use Perlite, a type of volcanic rock as their exfoliant, as well as HEBE noodle and stearic as their moisturizing agent.
As someone with sensitive skin, I asked the research team what the ideal cadence for exfoliation is, and they emphasized that it varies from person to person. Having now used it a few times, I still find that I can only exfoliate with it 2-3 times weekly to avoid any dryness or irritation, despite the rich, creamy formula, and that I do best when using to apply it with a washcloth or sponge, otherwise it can be a little rough on your hands.
The scents are also a big selling point, with a total of 7 blends available, including their new Dragon Fruit & Shea Butter and Vanilla Sugar & Shea Butter formulas. My favorite continues to be the Brown Sugar and Coconut Butter (which also happens to provide the strongest exfoliation). But there's a wide range from fruity to sweet, which lingers on your skin for a bit of time after your shower, which is always a plus.

Meriden woman with rare brain condition inspires others on social media
HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Connecticut woman had no idea she had a rare brain condition since birth until she passed out and was flown to Hartford Hospital, where she would end up needing four surgeries. 'My mom had said that I came to her with a regular headache and she said within a matter of five minutes, I had passed out,' 26-year-old Michaela Williams of Meriden said. That jumpstarted her emergency medical ordeal. Dr. Eric Sussman, a Hartford Hospital neurosurgeon helped save her life. It turns out that Williams was among just 1% of the population to have a condition called arteriovenous malformation, or AVM. It is abnormal tangles of high pressure blood vessels in her brain. They flowed into delicate arteries which started to bleed under pressure. 'Removing the AVM is very, I think, one of the more complex surgeries that we do. But in her case it was just the whole clinical picture of her being sick and really teetering on the edge the whole time she was here,' Sussman, who specializes in vascular surgery, said. Sussman says Williams underwent four surgeries, including a craniotomy, where part of her skull was removed to allow her brain to heal for a period of time. Williams' strength and faith pulled her through. Sussman calls it miraculous. 'I'm still creative. I like to write. I like to paint. I like to go outside,' Williams said, who continues to make uplifting TikTok videos like she did before her diagnosis. She hopes to help others who may be going through a tough time. 'I want them to feel encouraged, understood, heard. I want them to feel like they're not the only one,' Williams would like to make a dating app for others living with brain injuries.'Everybody that follows me on TikTok, they are family. They encourage me, they push me, uplift me and we encourage and push and uplift each other,' Williams said. There are two very positive takeaways from Williams' journey. First, she was very lucky that her mother was home when she first passed out to get her emergency care. Second, Dr. Sussman said that her brain will continue to heal, possibly for a few more years. RFK Jr. Shoots Raw Milk With Saladino: Scientist Reacts
Well, folks, the man in charge of our health just keeps doing grosser and grosser things, like making disgusting comments about autism, dismantling our country's health infrastructure, and, uhhh, maybe swimming in raw sewage (???). Yep, gross! So it might not come as a surprise that vaccine skeptic, conspiracy theorist, and US Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a fan of raw milk, or cow's milk that hasn't been pasteurized. No processing, just straight from the utter. Proponents of raw milk like to say that pasteurization, a heating process that eliminates harmful bacteria that could make you sick if consumed, also gets rid of the "good stuff" in the milk, but there's zero proof of that. Clearly, a lot can change in six months. The national public health agency that warns consumers about the potential dangers of raw milk consumption is now under the purview of a guy who's taken to doing shots of the stuff in the White House. Before we get into that, though, I have to introduce you to a health influencer named Paul Saladino. Saladino is a health influencer and double board-certified MD according to his Instagram bio, but says on his YouTube that he doesn't see patients "so he can focus on educating people as a full time activity." He also had a lapsed medical license due to non-payment for a while, but he seems to have cleared that up. Saladino is one of the faces of the carnivore diet, a fad that has no evidence of providing its supposed myriad health benefits… but that's a whole other can of worms (or should I say brain worms?). Saladino, who boasts around 4.5 million followers across his TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram pages, was recently invited to the White House as part of a group of influencers to watch Kennedy unveil his "Make America Healthy Again" commission report (which cited fake scientific studies, BTW). He interviewed RFK Jr. for his podcast, too, but the part that got the most buzz was when they took shooters of raw milk. Mmm! A food scientist who goes by @ on Instagram saw the Saladino-Kennedy raw milk collab and hopped on camera to give her food safety take on it (after a wisdom tooth extraction like the icon she is). Besides giving some relatable side-eye... ...she also debunked the health concerns Saladino references in his raw milk video with RFK Jr. She starts by saying that you can develop things like hemolytic uremic syndrome (which includes kidney failure) and fatal listeriosis (which can lead to fetal loss in pregnancy) from drinking raw milk. "Raw milk can also give you Campylobacter or salmonella or Cryptosporidium or potentially bird flu," she goes on, with a picture of how all of those infections might, uhh, make you feel. "And all of the health benefits it touts aren't even true, so raw milk can't even reduce allergies or reduce osteoporosis or provide any sort of beneficial gut bacteria," she says. "In fact, it's probably wreaking havoc on your gut, because you are just eating the doo doo on da udder." She then dives into Saladino and Kennedy's concern about the pesticide glyphosate, highlighted by Saladino's comment that he knows RFK Jr. is concerned about "this huge amount of glyphosate" and that they'd be toasting their meeting with glyphosate-free honey and raw milk. While Saladino might only have been calling the honey glyphosate-free, it's a bit unclear, so our food scientist clears things up anyway. "Glyphosate residues are very much not present in milk or dairy products. It's usually less than 0.1%," she says. "So if glyphosate is the thing you're worried about, but not everything else I've listed in the latter, then I don't even know what to tell you, buddy." People in the comments felt her pain (because we're ALL exhausted, but I can't imagine being a food scientist right about now). This person shared a horrifying personal anecdote about the dangers of raw milk. People, of course, made RFK brain worm jokes on her Instagram... ...and on Saladino's raw milk shooter video. Note: Paul Saladino does not have a brain worm as far as we know. A few people pointed out the perhaps conveniently placed Lineage Provisions packages in the background of Saladino's video — a company he co-founded and co-owns. The brand self-proclaims to be "purveyors of the highest-quality, most nutrient-dense animal based snacks on the planet." All I can say is "sigh."
