Atletico Madrid are planning a change of transfer direction in the coming days following an update from Liverpool.
Diego Simeone is rumoured to be looking at several transfer targets to bolster his squad following a disappointing FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

Atletico Madrid's group stage exit in the USA has sharpened focus on what Simeone needs to do in the summer transfer market.
Left back has been highlighted as a key area to be improved with Andy Robertson emerging as Simeone's rumoured No.1 option.
Atletico Madrid receive Andy Robertson transfer update
From the start of their interest in the Scotland international, Atletico Madrid outlined their stance of looking for a cut price deal, with the 31-year-old into the final year of his contract at Anfield.
Initial estimates claimed Liverpool would accept an offer in the region of £5m, as a cheaper option to Aston Villa's Lucas Digne, but that was not accepted by Los Rojiblancos.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has since offered an update on the situation with a hint that patience has run out in Madrid as Robertson delays his call.
'We don't expect Andy Robertson to go to Atletico Madrid anymore,' Romano stated on his YouTube channel.
'Robertson was a candidate, a strong candidate, for Atletico Madrid. They had concrete conversations, then the player was taking his time to decide his future, also out of respect for Liverpool, where he's still loving the club, the fan base and all the people at the club.
'It's important to say Atletico Madrid, as I told you several times, wanted to pay a very small transfer fee or a free transfer for Robertson from Liverpool, so that was not possible.'
Robertson's apparent desire to stay on Merseyside has enabled Simeone to explore other options on the left side of his defence with a possible bid incoming for Atalanta's Matteo Ruggeri next month.

Wirtz Signing Proves Liverpool Is Now England's Most Attractive Club

KIRKBY, ENGLAND - JUNE 20: (THE SUN OUT, THE SUN ON SUNDAY OUT) Florian Wirtz is unveiled as a ... More Liverpool player after his signing at AXA Training Centre on June 20, 2025 in Kirkby, England. (Photo by Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images) Florian Wirtz could have joined any of Europe's biggest clubs this summer. The German playmaker was wanted by Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid. He had his pick, but instead decided to join Liverpool in a transfer that is reportedly worth a Premier League-record $160m. Liverpool surged to the Premier League title last season, leaving rivals such as Arsenal and Manchester City in its dust. Arne Slot's team played a brand of exciting, dynamic soccer and so it's unsurprising Wirtz wants to be a part of the project at Anfield. Nonetheless, this is a transfer that confirms Liverpool's newfound status. LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - MAY 25: Arne Slot, manager of Liverpool lifts the Premier League trophy with ... (Photo by/Getty Images For The Premier League) As things are, Liverpool is the most attractive club in the Premier League. It plays the best soccer and, as last season proves, win the most matches and trophies. To someone like Wirtz, the Anfield club is where the best players in the world want to play. The Reds can continue to build on the platform they gave themselves in Slot's first campaign in charge. 'I just thought that it was the right point in my career to make the next step,' said Wirtz. 'I wanted to get to a club that is from the top three in the world, and in my opinion Liverpool was one of them. I just saw myself in the best hands in Liverpool. I was really convinced by the people here, by the idea, and everything what the club offers me was really good. And in the end [it was]In a past era, Manchester United sat at the top of the Premier League food chain. With Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm, the best soccer players in England invariably ended up at Old Trafford. Then there was a shift in the power balance and Manchester City surpassed its rivals as the strongest and most attractive in the land. While Manchester City is in the midst of a squad rebuild this summer, the Premier League champions are improving from a position of strength. With Wirtz added to the team, the Reds will take some catching next season. Of course, Trent Alexander-Arnold departed Liverpool to join Real Madrid and so there might still be bigger fish than the Reds in the European soccer pond. In English soccer, though, Liverpool is setting the standard. Wirtz is one of the best players of his generation and he has chosen Anfield as the perfect stage for the next, and best, phase of his career.

Vancouver Whitecaps look to snap two-game skid against Los Angeles FC

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Whitecaps are in unfamiliar territory — looking to snap a losing skid. A 5-3 defeat to expansion side San Diego FC on Wednesday marked Vancouver's second loss in a row. It's the first time this season the team has dropped back-to-back games. The result saw the Whitecaps (10-3-5) slip to the No. 2 spot in Major League Soccer's Western Conference. They'll strive to reclaim first place Sunday when they visit Los Angeles FC (7-4-5). Even after a pair of losses, there's no panic among the 'Caps, said head coach Jesper Sorensen. 'It's about believing in what we should be good at and what we should be doing well,' he said. 'We're in a very good position. We've earned our position. So we earned the right to step aside a couple of times. But we, of course, have to get back into winning things as well. But it's a difficult position.' There are lessons to be taken from Wednesday's loss, he added, including that the team needs to play with courage and without hesitation. 'Of course we got punished pretty hard,' the coach said. 'That's what it is. But also that we shouldn't wait to start taking initiative — we should take it right away.' LAFC is a team Vancouver knows well — Sunday's matchup will mark the 14th time the two sides have clashed since April 2023. The last bout came May 11 at B.C. Place, where the 'Caps fell behind early before rallying to earn a 2-2 draw. The Whitecaps need to play with more intensity to collect all three points this time out, said defender Mathias Laborda. 'We have to step forward and do a good game,' he said. With elite players — including striker Denis Bouanga — on the roster, L.A. presents a number of offensive threats, Laborda added. 'They're a really good team. They have really good players with quality. So we expect a really good game,' he said. L.A. is coming off a tough run at the FIFA Club World Cup where they finished at the bottom of their group with two losses and a draw, but is unbeaten in the club's last nine MLS games (4-5-0). The club is one of the better teams Vancouver has faced this season, Sorensen said, and Sunday's contest will be a difficult one. 'We know that they have some players we have to give special attention to. We know they have some things in their play that they're very good at and we have to take care of,' the coach said. 'But we also know we're a pretty good team ourselves and we have to also believe and trust in what we are doing. And then believe that that's how we're going to win the game.' VANCOUVER WHITECAPS (10-3-5) AT LAFC (7-4-5) Sunday, BMO Stadium GOODBYE GIROUD: Olivier Giroud is set to play his final game for LAFC on Sunday. The club announced Friday that is has 'mutually parted ways' with the famed French striker. Giroud signed with L.A. in May 2024, but has struggled in MLS, putting up five goals in 37 games across all competitions. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE?: LAFC has been solid at BMO Stadium this year, posting a 6-1-1 record in MLS play. The Whitecaps have been one of the league's best road teams, though, and are 4-1-3 away from B.C. Place. LOCKED DOWN: Despite giving up five goals on Wednesday, Vancouver has conceded the fewest goals in the Western Conference (19) and is tied with San Diego for the best goal differential (+15) in the West. This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 27, 2025.

Liverpool forward to STAY after dramatic transfer U-turn

Liverpool won't pay Diaz's demands But Liverpool seem reluctant to meet those demands. If Diaz is a little disappointed by that stance, it's perfectly understandable. After all, he scored 13 goals as the Reds won the Premier League title last season. He was a key figure under Arne Slot, despite his modest Liverpool career up to that point. Advertisement Barcelona, Bayern Munich and clubs in Saudi Arabia would all happily have Diaz - but Liverpool have been steadfast in their €80m valuation of the player. As such the market is quite restricted for Diaz unless Liverpool compromise on the fee. The latest report from Colombia also suggests that Diaz is, in fact, dismayed by Liverpool's stance over letting him leave. Diaz is annoyed at Liverpool Pipe Sierra, who regularly reports on Diaz and other Colombians in Europe, suggests that Diaz's entourage believe Liverpool haven't lived up to their promises. 'Luis Díaz and his camp are annoyed with Liverpool's stance,' Sierra wrote on X. 'They feel the club has gone back on their word (yet again with the player). Advertisement 'Something similar happened before with his contract renewal and now with the possibility of a transfer.' So what's changed? The journalist seems to be suggesting that Liverpool previously informed Diaz he would be free to leave this summer. But now it appears the club have told him he will be staying.
