The body of the mother of three was found on Aug. 13 in Angeles National Forest wrapped in a tarp or sheet that appeared to match the one Jossimar Cabrera was seen hauling, the report stated.
After determining Sheylla Cabrera's identification, investigators went to the couple's Lancaster, Cali., home where they found no sign of Jossimar or the couple's children, who were initially declared missing.
On Saturday, the children were found in Peru, where they were taken by their Peruvian-national father, who apparently fled the US prior to his wife's dead body being discovered, FoxLA reported.

prior to his wife's body being found.

Officials with the LASD stated they are working with Peruvian law enforcement counterparts to extradite Cabrera who is expected to face murder charges, according to KTLA.
A cause of death for Sheylla Cabrera has yet to be announced.

Husband of woman found dead in Angeles National Forest may have fled to Peru, officials say

LOS ANGELES — Officials looking for the husband of a woman found dead in California's Angeles National Forest last week believe he may have fled to Peru. Sheylla Cabrera, 33, of Lancaster, north of Los Angeles, was reported missing on Aug. 12 to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. In the investigation, deputies found video surveillance footage of her husband, 36-year-old Jossimar Cabrera, 'dragging a large object in a large piece of material' from their apartment complex, where they lived where their three young sons, the sheriff's department said Tuesday. Officials believed foul play was involved in Cabrera's disappearance, and Jossimar Cabrera was named a person of interest in the case. The Mexican and Peruvian consulates were alerted regarding Cabrera, and investigators later learned he had fled the U.S. On Saturday, the three Cabrera children were found safe and taken into protective custody in Peru, the sheriff's department said. Meanwhile, a search was launched for Cabrera in Angeles National Forest. On Saturday morning, the Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue team reported spotting "an object similar to the material that was seen being taken away by the person of interest over the side of an embankment" in the forest, the sheriff's department said. That material was found to contain Sheylla Cabrera's body, it said. The Los Angles County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death. NBC Los Angeles obtained camera footage that showed a man struggling to carry something large and bulky wrapped in a blanket across the apartment complex. Neighbors told the station that they had reported Sheylla Cabrera missing and that she had confided in them that her husband was physically abusive. Neighbors canvassed the apartment complex and found that surveillance video mentioned by law enforcement. The footage was recorded around 4 a.m. on Aug. 10, they said. 'I never had any interaction with the husband. He always seemed like mad all the time,' Mario Sanchez told the station. Sheylla Cabrera's parents told the station they spoke to their daughter on Aug. 9, and she had told them she was going to take her children and leave her husband. News outlet RPP Noticias in Peru spoke to Jossimar Cabrera's lawyer who said that it was not his client in the video, claimed the video was edited, and that it was not dated or time-stamped. The sheriff's department said it will present a case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office to consider filing murder charges against Cabrera and to secure his return to the U.S. The DA's office said the case will be presented to prosecutors on Thursday for filing consideration. 'Jossimar Cabrera is currently believed to be in Peru, pending further investigation needed to bring him to justice,' the sheriff's department said.

New Zealand faces most challenging security environment in recent time, report shows

By Lucy Craymer WELLINGTON (Reuters) -New Zealand is facing the toughest national security challenges of recent times with increasing threats of foreign interference and espionage, particularly from China, according to an intelligence report released on Thursday. The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (SIS) report said there was almost certainly undetected espionage activity harming the country's interests and that foreign states continue to target critical organisations, infrastructure and technology to steal sensitive information. 'Some states, including China, Russia and Iran, are willing to engage in covert or deceptive activity in order to influence discussions and decisions, or gain access to technology and information that can help them meet these goals ... New Zealand has been targeted by some of these activities,' the report said. China was a particularly "assertive and powerful" actor in the region and had demonstrated both a willingness and capability to undertake intelligence activity that targets New Zealand's national interests, it added. The Chinese Embassy in New Zealand did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The report titled New Zealand's Security Threat Environment is released annually as part of a government shift to better inform New Zealanders about risks the country is facing. The country, part of the Five Eyes intelligence and security alliance, has increasingly amped up its rhetoric over the growing influence of China in the region and a rise in geopolitical tensions, committing earlier this year to spend more on defence. Director-General of Security Andrew Hampton said the threats need to be taken much more seriously than they are currently. 'Our threat environment is deteriorating and that has a direct impact on our safety and security,' he said in a statement released alongside the report. The report also pointed to the growing threat of violent extremism and said the most plausible attack scenario remains a lone actor who has been radicalised online. 'Grievances and polarising issues in the online information space are almost certainly driving support for a range of violent extremist ideologies within New Zealand,' the report noted. Deputies in standoff at beachfront home in Malibu

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is engaged in a standoff in Malibu on Wednesday. At about 10:15 a.m., deputies were called to the 25000 block of Malibu Road for a reported assault with a deadly weapon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. Two people were possibly hurt, though the extent of their injuries has not been made public. The person accused of hurting them is barricaded inside a home in the area, and Malibu Road is closed in the area, the LASD said on social media. Aerial footage from Sky5 shows what appears to be a large amount of trash and items from inside the home strewn about the beach. Nidia Becerra contributed to this report.
