Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns gives scoop on 2-hour Mike Brown dinner

The post Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns gives scoop on 2-hour Mike Brown dinner appeared first on ClutchPoints.
In his first public appearance since the hiring of new head coach Mike Brown, New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns opened up about a pivotal offseason moment. Towns had a two-hour dinner with Brown in Las Vegas, setting the tone for the upcoming Knicks season.
Appearing on 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony, Towns emphasized the importance of the meeting, saying it was the first real conversation between the two.
'We have a chance to win a championship and that's only going to happen if everyone's connected,' Towns said.
Towns went on to describe the dinner as an opportunity to gain insight into Brown's philosophy on basketball, practices, and team culture. That level of communication is significant for a Knicks team looking to take the next step after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in over two decades.
Following their playoff loss to the Indiana Pacers, New York stunned many by firing Tom Thibodeau and bringing in the two-time Coach of the Year. Brown, who has a proven track record of building systems around playmaking bigs like Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis, now takes over a roster led by Towns and All-NBA guard Jalen Brunson.
Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks could reach a new level under Mike Brown
Towns, who averaged 24.4 points and 12.8 rebounds while shooting 42% from three last season, could see his role evolve under Brown. While he's never been the primary playmaker, Brown may look to involve him more from the elbow or high post, helping keep Towns mentally engaged and easing the burden on Brunson.
With offseason additions like Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele bolstering a once-thin bench, and elite role players like OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart rounding out the rotation, expectations in New York are higher than ever.
The key, as Towns said, will be chemistry.
' [When] you have locker rooms that are that connected, you can't be bothered by any of the outside noise and stuff, that's when you have a championship team,' Towns shared. 'Because at the end of the day, people will talk. [But] as long as everyone in that locker room believes in each other and this goal we have, ain't none of that sh*t matters on the outside.'

Mitchell scores 26 to lead injury-riddled Fever past Sky 92-70

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Kelsey Mitchell scored 26 points and Lexie Hull scored 17 points and the Indiana Fever beat the Chicago Sky 92-70 on Saturday. Sophie Cunningham scored 10 of her 16 points before halftime and Aliyah Boston scored 15 points for Indiana (18-14). Hull was inserted into the starting lineup after the Fever ruled Friday that Sydney Colson would miss the remainder of the season due to a torn left ACL while fellow guard Aari McDonald was also ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken bone in her right foot. Indiana was again without guard Caitlin Clark who hasn't played since July 15 when she aggravated a previous groin injury during a game against Connecticut. There is no timetable for Clark's return to action. For its part, the Sky didn't have the services of Angel Reese due to a back injury. She's missed five straight games and there is no set timetable for her return. She's only played twice since the All-Star break. The Fever built a 48-37 halftime lead shooting 17 for 33 (51.5%) and finished 33 for 70 (47.1%) overall. Hull shot 4 for 6 from 3-point range and Mitchell 4 for 8 from distance. Rachel Banham scored 11 points and reserve Maddy Westbeld scored 10 for Chicago (8-23). Indiana started the third quarter with an 8-0 run and cruised from there. Mitchell's shot with 2.9 seconds left in the quarter gave Indiana its first 20-point lead. ___ AP WNBA:

Busch hits a 3-run homer, Shaw adds a solo shot as the Cubs rout the Cardinals 9-1

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Michael Busch hit a three-run home run, Matt Shaw added a homer and an RBI triple, and the Chicago Cubs routed the St. Louis Cardinals 9-1 Saturday night. After getting shut out 5-0 in Friday's series opener, the Cubs built a six-run lead against Andre Pallante (6-9) by the second inning. Colin Rea (9-5) allowed one run in six innings, and Carson Kelly and Dansby Swanson each had three of Chicago's 13 hits. Busch set the tone by leading off the game with a double into the corner in right field, then scoring on Kyle Tucker's RBI single. Tucker scored when right-fielder Jordan Walker's throw got away from Willson Contreras, the cut-off man, on Kelly's single. In the second inning, Busch made it 5-0 by hitting his 22nd homer of the season — his sixth in eight games against St. Louis this season. Busch hit four home runs during a three-game stretch when the Cardinals visited Wrigley Field last month, but he'd hit only three more in 25 games since. Pallante allowed six runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings, his shortest outing in 53 career starts. He was pulled after Seiya Suzuki doubled and scored on Kelly's RBI single. Shaw tripled home Swanson in the third and added a 395-foot solo homer in the fifth that made it 9-0. Lars Nootbaar doubled and scored the lone St. Louis run on Alec Burleson's sixth-inning groundout. The Cardinals played without All-Star second baseman Brendan Donovan, a late scratch due to left groin tightness, and Contreras was removed from the game after an infield single in the sixth. Key moment After Pallante allowed a single to Swanson and walked Shaw despite getting ahead 0-2, catcher Yohel Pozo visited the mound. Busch drove Pallante's next pitch 374 feet into the stands in right field for a 5-0 Cubs lead. Key stat Busch has six home runs in 34 at-bats against St. Louis this season. Up next The Cubs send LHP Shota Imanaga (8-4, 3.12 ERA) against Cardinals RHP Sonny Gray (10-5, 4.21) in the series finale Sunday. ___ AP MLB:
