HMWSSB to account for every drop with smart valve meter tech
The city's water network has nearly 15,000 small and large valves, but only about 35% are regularly operated by linemen. Manual operation, especially on main roads, poses safety risks due to traffic. There have been fatal incidents in the past.
Smart valves, integrated with sensors and communication systems, allow remote monitoring and control of water flow. This eliminates the need for manual operation, reduces dependency on linemen, improves efficiency and cuts operational costs, the officials mentioned.
Pilot in Sanathnagar successful
A pilot project in Sanathnagar Division has proven successful, and the Board plans to expand the initiative. A centralised control room will be set up at the HMWSSB head office to monitor, regulate and operate valves. The system will also be linked to smart meters, water quality monitors and billing data.
HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy has directed officials to study the feasibility of scaling up automation. He also proposed installing smart meters at reservoir outlets and in bulk water supply zones to ensure precise measurement and accountability.
With the new system, linemen can operate valves remotely via a mobile app, without visiting sites physically. The smart valves are solar-powered with battery backup, ensuring uninterrupted function.
Traditionally, managing the 15,000 valves required nearly 2,000 linemen, with water often released at midnight. Officials believe this upgrade will improve water distribution and benefit residents.

Delhi CM tables CAG audit report on welfare of construction workers in assembly
NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a CAG audit report in the Assembly on Monday, highlighting irregularities in the registration of construction workers and indicating low expenditure on their welfare, despite the state government having a substantial fund of over Rs 3,500 crore available from 2019 to 2023. The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India on 'Welfare of Building and Other Construction Workers' (BOCW) covered the four years up to March 2023 under the rule of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi. The Delhi government did not have any reliable data relating to the number of BOCWs in Delhi, it said. The Welfare Board for the BOCWs could provide a complete database of only 1.98 lakh out of 6.96 lakh workers stated to be registered with it. "Out of 1.98 lakh beneficiaries of various welfare schemes, for whom images were made available to Audit, 1.19 lakh beneficiaries were linked with 2.38 lakh images - more than one image for individual beneficiary," it said, suspecting "ghost" worker registrations. Also, the availability of duplicate images, images with no faces, and multiple registrations of the same face indicated several "loopholes" in the registration process, the CAG report stated. In terms of renewals of registrations of the BOCW, Delhi was way behind the all-India performance of 74 per cent. Delhi recorded a renewal of just 7.3 per cent of workers as per the report. As of March 2023, the Welfare Board for the BOCWs had accumulated funds of Rs 3,579.05 crore, it added. "There was a huge difference in the figures of cess amount collected as per records of cess collectors, district records and the Board. The difference in figures of the cess as per District records and as per the Board for four years amounted to Rs 204.95 crore. The differences were not found reconciled," it noted. The registered companies pay one per cent of the construction cost as cess to the Board for undertaking various schemes for the welfare of the BOCWs. Also, the Delhi government did not maintain a reconciled database of cess assessed, collected and remitted. It thus lacked a system to ascertain the quantum of cess due and its timely collection, the report found. "Cases of incorrect assessment, short/deposit/realisation of cess were observed," it noted. Expenditure on welfare schemes ranged between 9.53 and 11.33 per cent only of the total receipts, except in 2021-22, when ex gratia payments were made to the BOCW to tide over the Covid pandemic period, it added.

Brewery stock rebounds as board sets meeting to declare dividend record date, Q1 results 2025
BCL Industries share price saw a recovery during Tuesday's trading session and closed above the day's low after the company announced that its Board of Directors meeting will take place on August 12, 2025. According to the filing, the board will review and approve the unaudited financial results, both standalone and consolidated, for the quarter ending June 30, 2025. The agenda will also include discussions about relocating the company's registered office within the municipal limits of Bathinda city. Additionally, the Board will discuss setting the date and time for the 49th Annual General Meeting of the company, along with other relevant issues. The meeting will also establish the record date for declaring dividends for the financial year 2024–25. Importantly, during the presentation of its Q4 results in May, BCL Industries' board announced a dividend of 26 percent on each Re 1 share for the relevant period. This 26 percent dividend equates to a payout of Re 0.26. "Recommended an equity dividend of 26 paisa per share on face value of Re 1 each, i.e. for the financial year ended March 31, 2025, which shall be subject to declaration by the Members at the 49th AGM of the Company," said BCL Industries in a filing then. BCL Industries share price today closed at ₹ 44.30 apiece on the BSE, the stock touched an intraday high at ₹ 44.89 per share, and an intraday low of ₹ 43.95 apiece. According to Anshul Jain, Head of Research at Lakshmishree Investments, BLC Industries share price is currently trading in a broad range of 50–35, with some early signs of institutional accumulation. However, the overall price action lacks strong bullish confirmation, indicating that the base is still under development. 'The stock appears to need more time to consolidate and build a stronger foundation before any sustainable upmove. A decisive breakout above 50, supported by rising volumes, will be the key trigger to confirm strength. Once that level is breached, the stock has the potential to move toward the 60 mark in the short to medium term,' said Jain.
