LOS ANGELES – Taylor Sheridan and "Yellowstone" star Luke Grimes are coming to CBS with a new show, "Marshals."
CBS Entertainment chief Amy Reisenbach announced the new show May 7 as CBS unveiled plans for the 2025-26 TV season. The new "Yellowstone" spinioff is planned for Sunday nights starting next spring. "Marshals," a tentative title, follows Grimes' character Kayce Dutton.
The TV son of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) "puts the Yellowstone ranch behind him and joins up with the marshals using his Navy SEAL skills and cowboy skills to bring justice to the Montana range," Reisenbach said.
Few further details were revealed, and it's unclear whether Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) will join her TV husband, who was last seen in December's "Yellowstone" finale on Paramount Network. Fan-favorite couple Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) are expected to star in their own, still-unannounced spinoff.
Addressing a question about Sheridan's penchant for big budgets for his stable of hit shows – which include "Landman," "Lioness," and "1923," – George Cheeks, co-CEO of Paramount Global, said that the budget for "Marshals" will be "in line" with other network shows. The show will air on Paramount+ after premiering on the network.
Sheridan's direct involvement in the show is another aspect that is still being worked out. "We're still early in the process," Reisenbach said. "Taylor is a very busy guy; we'll take what we can get."
CBS addresses 'unfortunate' cancellation of 'Equalizer'
For the first time, the network addressed the May 2 cancellation of "The Equalizer," starring Queen Latifah, after five seasons. Reisenbach called it "a tough decision."
"It's never easy to end shows," Reisenbach said, pointing to a "full" schedule which includes new shows also including the Sheridan-produced singing competition "The Road," featuring Blake Shelton.
Reisenbach said that "Equalizer" creators were aware of the possibility of the show ending, allowing them to craft a "satisfying" ending for fans in the May 4 finale.
Other CBS canceled shows include "FBI: International," "FBI: Most Wanted, "S.W.A.T." and comedy "Poppa's House."
Donnie Wahlberg moves to 'Boston Blue' with Sonequa Martin-Green
Donnie Wahlberg, who played New York police detective Danny Reagan on "Blue Bloods" for 14 seasons, introduced his new "Boston Blue" spinoff and co-star Sonequa Martin-Green ("Strange New Worlds"). Martin-Green will play Det. Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent Boston law-enforcement family.
"It's been quite a journey for the last 14 years; we had a very special show," said Wahlberg, addressing his New York City tenure on "Blue Bloods," which starred Tom Selleck.
Wahlberg declined to give specifics about the show and whether "Blue Bloods" regulars like patriarch Selleck will appear on the series. Ironically, the Dorchester, Mass.-born Wahlberg will have to pretend to hate Boston as his transplanted Reagan family character. "That is going to be tough," he said.

Now that we're nearly at the halfway point of the 2025 TV schedule, it means the numbers have been tallied for the most-watched shows from 2024-2025 season, and while the program at the top of the list is no big shock, Justin Hartley's CBS drama Tracker pulled off a surprising win that only one other TV drama, Yellowstone, has pulled off in recent years. To be expected, both NFL and NCAA football have a healthy presence in the overall totals, and CBS predictably stomped the competition in terms of programming, boasting 14 of TV's 20 biggest non-sports audiences, according to TVLine. Let's take a closer look at how Tracker's sophomore season managed to beat the odds and top its already impressive first year out. Let's not beat around the bush here: Tracker's first season was a huge success for CBS, as viewers turned up in droves to see Justin Hartley's first big TV role after This Is Us. Season 1's average viewership of 10.84 million made it the top drama of the 2023-2024 season, though it came in third place behind ABC's #2 slot-holder Monday Night Football. But those tides have turned, at least for one year, as Tracker's second season averaged a total of 11 million viewers per episode (with Live + 7 delayed-viewing measured). It's no wonder CBS gave it an early season renewal alongside other shows. Monday Night Football? It fell to the third spot with 10.3 million viewers on average. Sorry, fellas. While it's already rare for anything to beat either primetime NFL games or NCIS in total viewers, it's altogether rarer for a drama to do both. Yellowstone did it during the 2022-2023 season, and was the first cable series to pull off that kind of win since The Walking Dead's monster run on AMC. But it was back in 2017-2018 that another drama reached the #2 spot: This Is Us, which also starred Justin Hartley. If only he'd have been on Yellowstone at some point, he might be considered TV ratings' Holy Grail. By and large, though, NCIS is almost always the go-to top dawg when it comes to scripted dramas. There were times when The Big Bang Theory and even the return of Roseanne pulled in bigger crowds, but McGee & Co. tend to hold the reins for hourlong fare. After Tracker's Early Renewal For Season 3, I'm Flashing Back To Justin Hartley's Comments About Why Making The Show 'Shouldn't Be Possible' For a caveat or two, Monday Night Football was an ESPN exclusive for quite a few years, where it wasn't as much of a ratings king, and only returned to ABC in a widespread capacity in 2022. Prior to that, CBS' scored quite a few wins with Thursday Night Football, though its scheduling was also sporadic due to NFL Network. All things considered, Tracker's ratings win makes me even more anxious to see Luke Grimes' upcoming Yellowstone spinoff hitting CBS' Fall lineup, so that NCIS' biggest dramatic competition in the past decade or so can go head to head. My money is on Taylor Sheridan's universe, but I won't be shocked if Hartley comes out on top. We just have to wait the next few months for Season 3 to get here first.

Wick Is Pain, a new documentary from director Jeffrey Doe, offers an inside look at the early struggles of making the first John Wick, tracking star Keanu Reeves and filmmaker Chad Stahelski for a decade as it goes from being an indie film to becoming a billion dollar franchise. At a special screening of the doc in Santa Monica on Thursday, Reeves and Stahelski joined Doe, producer Erica Lee, writer Derek Kolstad and producer Josh Oreck for a Q&A about the highs and lows depicted the doc. Reeves echoed that when it came to the months and months of fight training he would go through for each film, when the directed pushed him in workouts he was ready to 'do some more because Wick is pain and we fucking love it.' The star also pointed out that he trains with the film's stunt performers, so 'when we get into the level of choreography and stuff, everyone's been used to being thrown by me. If I do 100 throws, there's fucking six guys who are getting fucking thrown and doing it. So I'm not in that alone, and then just the cinema part of it is that all of the operators are in it with us to capture everything.' Several of the franchise's stuntmen were in the audience at the screening, and as Reeves reflected on his love of working with directors 'who wanted to explore character in action' in Matrix, Point Break and Speed before the John Wick films, he gave much of the credit to those stunt performers. 'I really love being able to do as much as I can, but I don't do stunts. Stunt people do stunts,' he said. 'They're like, 'Look at all those stunts you did' and I'm like, 'Fuck that, [stunt double] Jackson [Spidell] just got hit by a car twice.' And [Stahelski] is like, 'Hmm, maybe we can hit him with two cars,'' as the director joked that was just because they couldn't afford three. 'Anyway yeah I don't do stunts, I do action,' Reeves insisted. During the conversation he also teased Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spinoff starring Ana de Armas in which he appears. 'It was really cool to have a chance to put the suit on. I've worked with Ana a couple of times and she's a wonderful artist, and she committed to the action,' the star told the crowd. 'I just had like eight days on it, but it was fun to play the role again and I'm excited for people to see the film. It's in the spirit of John Wick and has new characters and opens up some stuff, so hopefully people like it.' Looking back on his decade of playing the hitman, Reeves noted that it was 'a special thing to have something you love chronicled in such a way' with the documentary. 'It's kind of like a picture book. I mean it's like 10 years of our lives and it changed our lives for the better, personally and creatively.'
