Health insurance plan to continue uninterrupted: minister
Salman said the Punjab government has recently paid Rs 22 billion in the last five years in terms of medicines in government hospitals and the closure of Sehat Card in government hospitals will not have any impact on providing free treatment to the people.
The decision to limit Sehat Card to private hospitals has been taken in view of the betterment of the people and the sustainability of the health system, he said, adding: "The shortage of money for the health insurance program in government hospitals will be paid by the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department. There is no shortage of medicines in government hospitals at present."
He added the department has a huge amount of Rs 32 billion to ensure the availability of medicines, under which the process of supplying medicines to government hospitals is underway. The stock of medicines is available in sufficient quantity in government hospitals and the supply of medicines is being continuously increased with time, he said.
According to him, the Punjab government is committed to providing the best, quality and free treatment to the people. We will continue to take all possible steps for the further improvement of the health sector. The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education is monitoring the supply of medicines in government hospitals on a daily basis.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Fauzan Alam Hashmi, with anaesthetist Dr. Asma Akram, led the team, stating, 'After parental consent, we chose an awake procedure, allowing the boy to move his limbs and speak during surgery, ensuring we avoided critical brain areas''. This was done with the help of advanced navigation systems and microscopes. Post-surgery, psychological evaluation confirmed no new disabilities or trauma. Narowal train: Minister urged to take notice of delays
LAHORE: Passengers travelling on the 211-Up Narowal passenger train have called on Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi to take notice of the train's consistent delays ranging from two to two-and-a-half hours daily. Commuters expressed frustration over the inconvenience caused by the train's late departure from Lahore, particularly in the current spell of extreme heat and humidity. They said the prolonged waiting time at the station causes severe mental and physical distress. Punjab to be made hub of healthcare innovation: Kh Salman
LAHORE: Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has expressed firm resolve to make Punjab a hub of healthcare innovation with smart hospitals, telemedicine services, artificial intelligence and evidence-based clinical practices. 'We are establishing modern artificial intelligence and research labs in medical colleges. The Punjab government is promoting medical research fellowships across the province,' Salman said while addressing the National Research and Innovation Conference 2025 at King Edward Medical University as a special guest.
