EV-as-a-Service startup Fyn Mobility raises $2.5 million

The Hindu16-05-2025
Chennai headquartered Fyn Mobility, which operates India's largest fast charging fleet and has built India's first vertically integrated EV-as-a-Service (EVaaS) company, has raised $2.5 million in a fresh funding round. This round was led by Vijay Kedia (ace public market investor), Lloyd Balajadia (promoter of Philippines Pharma Major Lloyd Laboratories), and Rahul Bothra (Swiggy CFO). The firm intends to use this capital to accelerate fleet growth. A part of the funds will be used for expanding its geographic footprint and tech platform.
'We're building the future of mobility. Fyn's vision is to become the world's largest tech enabled supplier for the mobility sector. This has the potential to become larger than most of the aggregator and marketplace models in the market. Fyn is building out a unique and scalable business model which will redefine the mobility industry for good with a tech plus execution game at a fraction of the funding raised by other startups', said Visakh Sasikumar, Co-Founder and CEO of Fyn.
With over 1,000 Electric Vehicles in the fleet, Fyn provides jobs to 1,500 people and plans to expand its fleet to over 10,000. The company has already achieved profitability in key cities like Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Fyn's fleets are charged in just 15 minutes and turned around for deployment in under 30 minutes. The company works with blue-chip customers including Amazon, Flipkart, Blue Dart, and Porter, offering up to 20% logistics cost reduction and data-driven operational insights.
Fyn is also gearing up for international expansion, with a focus on Southeast Asian markets. The firm is currently in discussions with growth investors to secure a $10 million funding round for international expansion and scaling up its technology.

Trump to Resume Thailand, Cambodia Trade Talks After Truce

President Donald Trump said the US will resume trade negotiations with Thailand and Cambodia after they agreed to halt clashes along their disputed border, taking credit for pushing them to peace after threatening punishing tariffs. The two Southeast Asian nations reached a ceasefire Tuesday after five days of fighting, including airstrikes and artillery shelling, left at least three dozen dead and displaced more than 150,000 on both sides of their roughly 800 kilometer frontier. 'I have instructed my Trade Team to restart negotiations on Trade,' Trump said in a social media post Monday. 'I am proud to be the President of PEACE!' Both countries face 36% US tariffs. Neighboring Vietnam secured a 20% rate, while levies for Indonesia and the Philippines were set at 19% ahead of Trump's Aug. 1 deadline. Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said Monday night Trump told him in a phone call after the peace talks that 'we will get something very good out of it. He will do his best to give us as much as he can.' The Thai baht was slightly weaker at 32.49 per dollar in early Asian trading Tuesday amid broad greenback strength. The country's stock market is set to reopen at 10 a.m. local time after being closed Monday for a holiday. Trump's remarks are the latest example of how the US leader has wielded trade as a way to resolve for geopolitical clashes, claiming credit for pressuring trading partners to end conflicts if they wish to retain continued access to US markets. Bloomberg Opinion: US Trade Deals Come With Defense Strings: Karishma Vaswani The US in June brokered a deal between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda aimed at ending years of conflict. And Trump has similarly claimed credit for halting a clash between nuclear powers India and Pakistan earlier this year. Phumtham and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reached their agreement in Malaysia on Monday in talks hosted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, acting in his role as the chair of Asean. Envoys from China and the US were also at the negotiations, and a joint statement from the three Southeast Asian nations after the talks said the meeting had been 'co-organized by the United States of America with the active participation of the People's Republic of China.' In their remarks after the meeting, both Phumtham and Hun Manet thanked Anwar and Trump, as well as China, for helping reach the ceasefire. 'The fact that the US and China are both in on it is good.,' said Thitinan Pongsudhirak, a professor of political science at Chulalongkorn University. 'Thailand needs the tariffs to come down from the US side. And Trump will see this as a win.' After its conflict with India was paused earlier this year, Pakistan hailed Trump's intervention while New Delhi disputed his claims that securing trade deals helped clinch their ceasefire. Both countries are still engaged in trade talks. In the DRC, Trump has said the US stands to get mineral rights from the country after brokering their deal. Congo is the second-biggest copper producer and largest source of cobalt, giving it prominence in Washington's efforts to reduce dependence on Chinese supply chains for minerals needed for a wide-range of cutting-edge technologies. Lokesh invites Airbus to build MRO hub in AP

Singapore: Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics Nara Lokesh on Monday extended a formal invitation to Airbus to establish a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub in the state. The proposal came during a key meeting with Anand Stanley, president of Airbus Asia Pacific, held as part of Minister Lokesh's official visit to Singapore to discuss strategic opportunities in the aviation sector. Lokesh highlighted the pressing need for a dedicated MRO hub in India, positioning Andhra Pradesh as the ideal location. He pointed to India's high aircraft density and the burgeoning demand from neighboring countries, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan, as well as the broader Southeast Asian market, creating a robust captive market for MRO services. "Our proposed MRO hub will significantly reduce ferry times and operational costs for Indian airlines and enhance aircraft availability," stated the Minister. "It also opens up opportunities for servicing aircraft from neighbouring nations, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a key regional player." He underscored Airbus's significant growth trajectory in India, noting that over 850 Airbus aircraft are currently operational in the country. Furthermore, India is projected to require approximately 1,750 new aircraft over the next two decades, with Airbus currently holding a dominant 65–70 percent market share in India's commercial aviation sector, primarily driven by the narrow-body A320 family. The minister emphasised Andhra Pradesh's strategic potential to emerge as South Asia's leading MRO hub, promising efficient service to both Indian and regional carriers. He assured Stanley that the state is prepared to develop a comprehensive, world-class MRO ecosystem, aligning with Singapore's stringent operational and maintenance standards. He concluded by extending a formal invitation to Anand Stanley to visit Andhra Pradesh to personally explore the infrastructure and policy support available to aviation industry leaders.

Vietjet Bengaluru-Ho Chi Minh City daily service on the cards

Ho Chi Minh City: Flight travel between Bengaluru and Vietnam is set for a major boost with Vietjet, Vietnam's largest private carrier, planning to expand its Bengaluru (BLR) –Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) connection to daily service. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Currently, the airline operates four flights per week between the two cities. The airline is exploring this upgrade keeping in mind the increased interest being shown by Indian tourists, especially Bengaluru's high-spending tech crowd, in various exotic and offbeat destinations of Vietnam. "The response to our Bengaluru-Ho Chi Minh City route has so far been quite encouraging, and we may upgrade our current four-times-a-week service to a daily service in the future," Kieu Duong, Vietjet's international PR officer, told TOI on the sidelines of a tour at the picturesque port city of Vung Tau in Vietnam earlier this month. Tour operators have observed that Vietnamese cities like Ho Chi Minh City combine rich cultural attractions, such as the War Remnants Museum, Saigon Opera House, Independence Palace, and bustling Bến Thành Market, with affordability in accommodation, food, and sightseeing. The direct service connects Bengaluru to SGN in just about 4 hours and 40 minutes, with flyers no longer having to go through the hassles of taking connecting flights from other cities in India or from airports in Southeast Asia. Vietjet currently operates flights to six Indian cities – Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kochi. The airline is not only looking to tap into rising passenger traffic on the India-Vietnam sector, but is also keen on offering flyers from India easy connectivity to destinations in Australia and Far Eastern and Southeast Asian cities, with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi as transit hubs. "We're very optimistic about our India operations, and our target is to offer our guests an opportunity to enjoy a slice of Vietnam, while providing seamless connections to Australia, China and other destinations on our network," Kieu Duong added.
