Witkoff departs to the Middle East to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza

ALBAWABA - US President Donald Trump's special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is heading to the region to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza amid deteriorating situation and ongoing war, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce announced Tuesday at a press conference at the State Department in Washington. Bruce said, "During my conversation today with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he indicated that the special envoy is now heading to the Middle East, and everyone—the president, the secretary, and the special envoy—is optimistic about progress in the ceasefire negotiations and about a humanitarian corridor for the flow of aid agreed to by both sides."
She added that the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio proposed the idea of an aid corridor in Gaza that would allow multiple entities to deliver aid without it being "hijacked by Hamas".
She maintained, "The humanitarian situation in Gaza requires a ceasefire and a corridor for the movement of humanitarian aid convoys."
On the other hand, activists staged a protest in front of the US State Department in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday evening, protesting the continued starvation policy in Gaza and the killing of Palestinian civilians attempting to get humanitarian aid from aid distribution centers in Gaza, which is monitorized by a US-backed organization.
They also denounced continued US support for the Israeli occupation.

Israel destroys massive aid shipments as Gaza faces worsening famine

Published July 25th, 2025 - 10:55 GMT ALBAWABA - As worries about the well-being of people in Gaza grow around the world, the Israeli military is said to have burned tens of thousands of tons of food and medical supplies as a result of what it called "logistical failures" in transport and storage. Military sources told Israel's public station Kan that the burned help was the same amount as what would fit in about 1,000 cars. They said that thousands of aid items had been left out in the sun for long periods of time, which led to the choice to get rid of them. The person said, "We will have to keep destroying the packages if they are not sent to Gaza." The damage happened at a time when there is a severe humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip. Reports say that there is a lot of hunger in the area, where more than 2.3 million people are stuck. Some families who have had to leave their homes are eating potato peels to stay alive. The Israeli army said that the help was thrown away because of problems with how it was being distributed in Gaza. But relief groups say that ongoing Israeli limits, military action, and attacks by settlers on supply lines have made it very hard for important aid to get to those who need it. الحرب على غزة مباشر.. إسرائيل تتلف مساعدات للقطاع وقطر ومصر تؤكدان استمرار الوساطة لقراءة المزيد : — صحيفة الانباط اليومية (@alanbatnet1) July 25, 2025 Some crossings, like Kerem Abu Salem (also written as Kerem Shalom) and Erez, are still closed. This could be because of military actions in Rafah or because Israeli settlements are still attacking aid convoys coming from other countries, especially Jordan. Because Israel is bombing, the Rafah border crossing with Egypt is also closed. People around the world are angry about the move, and political leaders and foreign groups are calling on Israel to let emergency aid in without any problems. Cities all over the world have held protests calling for an instant end to the ban on Gaza and the end of the fighting. The UN's Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Michael Fakhri, said that condemnations have not worked and that Israel should be punished. Fakhri told Al Jazeera that Israeli forces are blocking aid "in plain sight of the world" and asked Arab countries to keep up the pressure to make sure aid gets to people who need it the most. The destruction of important humanitarian aid is the latest step in a war that has brought Gaza to the edge of failure and sparked calls for immediate action from the rest of the world. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Massive outrage in Tel Aviv: Trump says Macron ‘Carries no weight'

Published July 25th, 2025 - 02:55 GMT ALBAWABA - Washington and Paris: Former U.S. President Donald Trump strongly disagreed with French President Emmanuel Macron's recent decision to recognize the State of Palestine, calling it "meaningless" and not having any political weight. Also Read Israel launches a new wave of airstrikes on southern Lebanon The world is angry about Israel's military activities in Gaza, which led to Macron's statement, which is a big change in policy from a major Western power. Reporters were told this by Trump at the White House: "What Macron says doesn't matter. We pulled out of the talks in Gaza because Hamas doesn't want peace. There needs to be a fight until Hamas is gone. Trump's words come after Macron's promise to officially recognize Palestine at the September UN General Assembly. Macron told Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, in a message that France would continue to work for world recognition of Palestine as a state and encourage other countries to do the same. France is the first country in the G7 to support Palestinian independence since 2024, when Spain, Norway, and Ireland did the same. Macron said that the move was necessary to protect the two-state solution and help with the growing humanitarian situation in Gaza. But Israeli and American leaders were very angry about it. Israeli officials called France's move a "diplomatic bomb" that could do a lot of damage to ties between the two countries. The move was also criticized by U.S. officials, who called it "reckless" and said it would likely give Hamas more power. — Sky News (@SkyNews) July 25, 2025 Macron's decision comes just a few days before France and Saudi Arabia co-host a UN peace meeting. The goal of the meeting is to get the political process moving again toward a calm and providing aid to people in Gaza. Macron is set to officially give the award at the UN General Assembly in New York at the beginning of September. Diplomats say that the French move could make countries that aren't sure about recognizing Palestine, like the UK, Germany, and Australia, change their minds. The political impact keeps getting worse. Human rights and pro-Palestinian groups praise France, but it could hurt its security and intelligence relationships with the U.S. and Israel this way. Israel is said to have threatened possible reprisal actions, such as cutting off cooperation and sharing of information with Paris in the area. Germany has said it won't follow France's lead in the near future. The UK, on the other hand, said it would still back a Palestinian state "eventually," but stressed that it would put emergency aid first. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Iranian official calls for Trump's assassination, claiming legal and religious justification

ALBAWABA - A well-known Iranian politician caused a stir around the world when he openly called for the killing of former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying that it was both legal and religiously right to do so. The offensive comments were made by Mohammad Javad Larijani, who is currently the head of the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences and used to be the top official in Iran's court. He said them at a mourning event in Tehran for the victims of a recent Israeli rocket strike. Larijani said that Trump is a "legitimate target" because of what he called "institutional terrorism" in the United States against Iran. He backed up what he said with fatwas from more than 400 preachers that supposedly support the move. Later, in a TV interview, Larijani said it again: "Trump can't lie in the sun at Mar-a-Lago anymore..." It's that easy for a small drone to hit him. People all over the world quickly criticized what he said, and Trump even responded with sarcasm: "I haven't been in the sun since I was seven." "I'm not sure if that was a threat." The comments come at a time when emotions are high between Washington and Tehran. The Iran nuclear deal is still on hold, and battles in the region are getting worse. Analysts say that this kind of talk from high-level officials could lead to more open conflict between the two countries and hurt efforts to mediate diplomatically. Javad Larijani, senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, says that targeting Trump is both legally and religiously justified. He claimed the U.S. has pursued a policy of assassinating political, military, and scientific figures, making retaliation against Trump legitimate. — Open Source Intel (@Osint613) July 25, 2025 Larijani is known for being close to powerful people in Iran. He used to be Iran's spokesman in the court for human rights problems. His latest words show a big change toward stubborn resistance. Some experts see this as a sign that the Iranian government is under more and more pressure from within, and they see it as a move away from negotiation and toward conflict.
