EAM Jaishankar meets European Parliament President Roberta Metsola; discusses trade, strategic partnerships
Brussels [Belgium], June 11 (ANI): External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, on Wednesday. The two leaders discussed cooperation between India and Europe on several fronts, including trade, technology and security.
In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar said, 'A warm conversation with @EP_President Roberta Metsola in Brussels this morning. Discussed further strengthening of India-EU parliamentary ties, building upon our shared values of democracy and pluralism. Value her positive sentiments on advancing our partnership in trade, technology and security.'

The similar sentiments were shared by European Parliament President Metsola, who said that they look forward towards transforming commitments to actions for strengthening India-Europe strategic partnerships.

EAM Jaishankar had an action-packed day in Brussels earlier, where he held several high-profile interactions.
On Tuesday, Jaishankar met the Prime Minister of Belgium on Tuesday and discussed the strengthening of India-Belgium cooperation on several fronts such as security, defence and trade. He also met the King of Belgium during his visit.

Earlier, EAM Jaishankar also held a press conference with the Vice-President of the European Union, Kaja Kallas.
During the address to the media, Kaja Kallas stressed the EU's support for India's right to protect its citizens and condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Kallas said, 'I want to reiterate the EU's strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Those responsible must be held accountable. India has the right to protect its citizens in accordance with international law. Minister Jaishankar, you and I were in close contact after the attack.'
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Belgium on Tuesday and stated that the 'strategic partnership' between India and the EU is 'getting stronger.'
Jaishankar interacted with members of the Indian community of Belgium and Luxembourg, discussing the steady progress of India-Belgium ties and its engagement with the European Union.
During the interaction, Jaishankar apprised the community of India's efforts to counter terrorism and promote the country's progress and prosperity. (ANI)

India, China agree to rebuild ties, expedite steps to resume direct air services
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has held talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong during which the two sides reviewed the developments in India-China bilateral relations and agreed to continue to "stabilise and rebuild ties" with a priority on people-centric engagements, the MEA said on meeting took place on Thursday and the two sides also agreed to expedite steps involved in resuming direct air services between the two held talks with Sun earlier on January 27 in Beijing. Israeli Military Apologises Over Wrong India Map After Huge Online Backlash
New Delhi: In a first, the Israel Defense Forces has apologised for posting an incorrect map of India's international boundaries - which wrongly showed Jammu and Kashmir as belonging to Pakistan - on X. The IDF admitted the map "fails to precisely depict borders" but claimed it was only an "illustration of the region". The IDF's post followed tweets by Indian users, many quite furious, pointing out the error and urging the Israeli military to retract the post. Some even tagged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Responding directly to one such tweet, by an X handle called Indian Right Wing Community", the Israel Defense Forces said, "This post is an illustration of the region. This map fails to precisely depict borders. We apologise for any offense caused". This was around 90 minutes after the original post. India has made it clear that J&K and Ladakh, parts of which have been illegally occupied by Pakistan and China for decades, is and always will be an integral part of the country. That sentiment was repeated again by Prime Minister Modi in May, after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Over past several years India and Israel have developed a friendly relationship; in fact, in 2017 Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian leader to visit that country. This follows rapidly increasing tensions between the two and raises a new threat of all-out war in the West Asia region; this after the escalation following Israel's response to Hamas' October 7 attacks. We had no other choice but to act," the Israeli military declared ominously, attaching a map showing West Asia, northern Africa, Europe, and most of Asia, including India with incorrectly drawn borders. The map also drew sharp responses from Indian X users, including one person who tagged Mr Netanyahu and demanded Israel "delete it, correct it, repost it".
