
Cholistan embarks on farming quest
LAHORE:
The Green Agri Mall and Service Company, Smart Agri Farm, and Agri Research and Facilitation Centre were inaugurated under the Green Pakistan Initiative on Saturday at Kandai and Chapu in Cholistan as Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir attended the daylong activities.
Addressing notables, farmers, stakeholders and martyrs' families, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the launch of multifaceted projects and transformative initiatives under the Green Pakistan scheme. She underscored that agriculture is the lifeline of Pakistan.
The chief minister handed over land allotment letters to the next of kin of martyrs and war injured.
She lauded efforts under the Green Pakistan Initiative towards introducing contemporary best practices in Pakistan's agriculture sector.
COAS General Asim Munir acknowledged the leading role of Punjab as the powerhouse of Pakistan's agriculture sector.
He admired the endeavours made by Green Corporate initiative in achieving the milestones in a very short span of time. He said the army would continue its support for the economic development of the country.
The Green Agri Mall and Service Company aims to serve as a one-stop solution for farmers, providing them high quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and fuel at controlled rates on doorsteps.
The provision of rental farming machinery and implements, including drones, at the lowest possible charges would also facilitate the farmers.
The establishment of a Smart Agri Farm on 5,000 acres with modern techniques along with a high-efficiency irrigation system would serve as a specimen for maximum crop yield at the lowest possible cost.
The Agri Research and Facilitation Centre will provide all farming and technical input, including laboratory services. The center will maintain connectivity with research and academic partners in the country.
The event was also attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Water Resources Dr Mussadiq Malik, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, Minister for Irrigation Muhammad Kazim Pirzada and the federal and provincial secretaries concerned.

Punjab to present ‘tax-free budget' on 16th: minister
LAHORE: The Punjab government will present its annual budget for the fiscal year 2025–26 on June 16, following a short delay from the initially announced date of June 13. Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman confirmed the change during the Punjab Revenue Authority performance review meeting on Wednesday. He also reiterated that the expansion of the tax net will be ensured to increase revenue in the next fiscal year. Meanwhile, according to the sources, the upcoming budget will be tax-free, and no new taxes will be introduced. Estimated at over Rs1,200 billion, the new fiscal plan is expected to feature a record-breaking development outlay emphasising health, education, infrastructure, and tourism. The new budget will include over 850 development schemes and the key projects include the expansion of Nawaz Sharif Medical City in Lahore where new hospitals will be constructed under a public-private partnership model. The government also plans to roll out extensive sanitation and clean drinking water initiatives throughout Punjab. Infrastructure development remains a central priority. Moreover, the provincial transport network will be expanded to additional cities, while road and urban infrastructure projects are planned for 66 cities across the province. These initiatives reflect the government's strategy to improve public services and promote inclusive growth without imposing new tax burdens on citizens, said sources. The sources also confirmed that proposals for new taxes, submitted by the Board of Revenue and the Punjab Revenue Authority, were rejected by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The government is instead reviewing the current tax structure to identify adjustments in existing rates where necessary. LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on 'International Day of Play' said that a laughing and playing child is a symbol of happiness. 'Playing of children is not just a mere entertainment, it is the basis of their mental, emotional and creative development of a child,' she said, adding: 'Every child has the right to not only attain education but also to play, learn and smile in a carefree manner. It is extremely unfortunate that the children of Occupied Kashmir and Palestine are deprived of all other basic human rights including playing freely and enjoying other entertainments.' She apprised, 'Children are also being imparted education through playing mode at the Nawaz Sharif Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Education. We are establishing such an environment and society where every child feels safe, free and benefits from equal opportunities to play, learn and grow.' Moreover, the CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif has congratulated cricketer Sana Mir on being included into the ICC Hall of Fame. She has expressed her best wishes for cricketer Sana Mir. Maryam, US diplomats discuss enhanced cooperation
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met US Chargé d'Affaires Natalie A Baker and Consul General Kristin K Hawkins and discussed matters pertaining to further strengthening the long-standing Pak-US relations and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The CM appreciated Natalie Baker's dynamic and positive role as Chargé d'Affaires in Pakistan. She also appreciated the constructive and positive role of the United States in the recent Pakistan-India strained relations. The chief minister expressed solidarity with the people of California on being a sister state. She described her meeting with the US Congressional Pakistan Caucus as positive and constructive. She highlighted the active and positive role of the United States and deemed it highly important for attaining sustainable peace in the South Asian region. Pakistan-US relations are a valuable partnership based on shared values and strategic interests.
