International Day of Play marked: ‘A laughing, playing child is a symbol of happiness'
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on 'International Day of Play' said that a laughing and playing child is a symbol of happiness.
'Playing of children is not just a mere entertainment, it is the basis of their mental, emotional and creative development of a child,' she said, adding: 'Every child has the right to not only attain education but also to play, learn and smile in a carefree manner. It is extremely unfortunate that the children of Occupied Kashmir and Palestine are deprived of all other basic human rights including playing freely and enjoying other entertainments.'
She apprised, 'Children are also being imparted education through playing mode at the Nawaz Sharif Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Education. We are establishing such an environment and society where every child feels safe, free and benefits from equal opportunities to play, learn and grow.'
Moreover, the CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif has congratulated cricketer Sana Mir on being included into the ICC Hall of Fame. She has expressed her best wishes for cricketer Sana Mir. She lauded that Sana Mir's inclusion into ICC Hall of Fame is a great milestone for every daughter of Pakistan.

Country's first virtual centre for child safety established
LAHORE: Under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan's first 'Virtual Centre for Child Safety' has been established with regard to forced child labour under the auspices of Punjab Safe Cities Authority. A team of professional experts in the centre is tasked to carryout search operation for the missing persons, getting in touch with heirs and verifying their credentials. The centre has proven to be an effective in bringing back home not only missing children but also frail elderly people. In case of disappearance of a child or an elderly person of loved ones, there is an easy-to-use contact system at Virtual Centre for Child Safety. It is possible to contact the Virtual Centre for Child Safety immediately by calling the emergency helpline 15 and pressing the button number 3. Citizens across Punjab can contact the Virtual Centre for Child Safety through the Safety App. For the first time, a special helpline 0309-0000015 has also been activated for missing children and citizens of other provinces as well. There is also a facility to report missing children by making a call, sending WhatsApp message or text message on a special helpline. More than 59,635 people have contacted the Virtual Safety Centre to complain about missing persons. 53,542 cases of missing persons have been successfully resolved through Punjab's first Virtual Centre for Child Safety. More than 26,000 people have reached their homes after going missing on account of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's innovative initiative to establish Virtual Centre for Child Safety. The Chief Minister highlighted 'Children are my red line; I can understand the profound grief of parents in case of their disappearance. Whether children belong to Punjab or any other province, they are all dear to us.' She maintained, 'In case of disappearance, we are determined to fulfil our responsibility of bringing every child home safe and sound. Every citizen of the country can benefit from Pakistan's first Virtual Centre for Child Safety.' She outlined, 'Punjab's first Virtual Centre for Child Safety is a successful initiative of promoting humanitarianism, national solidarity, digital technology and good governance. Punjab becomes first province to implement child policy: CM
LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that Punjab has become the first province to implement child protection policy for the safe future of children. She highlighted, 'Punjab is ensuring the protection of children's rights by establishing the first Virtual Child Safety Station.' The Chief Minister in her message on the World Day Against Child Labour said, 'Child labour is absolutely intolerable, children are my red line. In today's era, incidents of child labour are a colossal tragedy for humanity. Forced child labour is a moment of grave concern for the conscious citizens of the society.' She highlighted, 'Children should have pens, books and laptops in their hands instead of tools and bricks. Children who are forced to bear the burden of forced child labour at a tender age instead of holding a pen in their hands is a big question mark for every civilized society.' She outlined, 'If the childhood of an innocent child is not protected, the society will be deprived of useful citizens in times to come. I deem child labour not just a problem as it will put at stake bright future of our coming generations. Effective steps are being taken to eliminate child labour.' Khatri slams imposition of GST on imported solar panels
KARACHI: Abdul Shakoor Khatri, prominent industrialist and founding chairman of the All-Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA), has strongly criticized the imposition of an 18% tax on solar energy in the federal budget for 2025-26, calling it counterproductive to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's vision of an energy-efficient Pakistan. Sharing his views on the federal budget, Abdul Shakoor Khatri expressed deep disappointment, stating that the business community had expected an industry-friendly and people-centric financial plan. Instead, the new taxation measures, particularly on solar energy, have further burdened industries already struggling with high production costs. 'Electricity prices have skyrocketed, making industrial operations uncompetitive. Now, taxing solar energy removes the last affordable alternative, forcing industries to rely on expensive grid electricity—a move that is both unjust and regressive,' Khatri said. He contrasted Pakistan's approach with global trends, where governments incentivise renewable energy to reduce costs and enhance industrial efficiency. 'While the world embraces technological advancements, our policies seem to push industries backward,' he remarked. Abdul Shakoor Khatri highlighted the budget's failure to address the textile sector's challenges, particularly the sharp decline in local cotton production. 'Instead of burdening imports with taxes, the government should eliminate duties on cotton to sustain industrial operations and preserve employment,' he argued. He urged authorities to introduce special incentives for the textile industry, including easier access to bank loans for modern machinery imports, to enhance global competitiveness. The veteran industrialist stressed the need for a cohesive policy benefiting the entire textile value chain—from ginning and dyeing to weaving and garment manufacturing. 'The State Bank and Finance Ministry must collaborate on a strategy that supports all segments of the sector,' he said. He also appealed for concessions for senior citizens, including exemption from tax return filings, and emphasized the urgency of completing critical infrastructure projects like Keti Bandar and the K-4 water scheme. 'Delays in such projects hinder economic growth and exacerbate water and energy shortages,' he noted. Shakoor Khatri warned that without corrective measures, the budget's current framework risks stifling industrial growth and exacerbating unemployment.
