Ethiopian Airlines suspends flights to Tel Aviv
ADDIS ABABA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Africa's leading carrier Ethiopian Airlines has suspended all flights between Addis Ababa of Ethiopia and Tel Aviv of Israel in both directions until Sunday.
The announcement was made on the airline's social media account X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday, citing operational considerations.
Updates will be provided as new information becomes available, according to the airline.
Israel has since early Friday launched airstrikes on the Iranian capital Tehran and other areas across the country, killing a number of Iran's top military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
In response, Iran has since Friday night launched a series of missile and drone strikes on different targets in Israel, inflicting casualties and heavy damage.

Trump: 'Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!'
KANANASKIS, Canada: US President Donald Trump on Monday urged residents of Tehran to leave, backing warnings from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who has launched a massive attack on Iran. "Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social account during a Group of Seven summit in Canada. Trump did not elaborate. Nearly 10 million people live in the Iranian capital. The warning comes as Israel ramps up attacks in Iran which it says are aimed at destroying the cleric-run state's contested nuclear work. The Israeli military earlier issued a notice urging residents of one district of Tehran to evacuate, an echo of its tactics in Gaza where it has displaced most of the Palestinian population since the Oct 7, 2023 attacks. Trump has repeatedly declined to say if the US would participate in Israeli military action, although he says it was not involved in initial strikes. He earlier told reporters at the G7 summit, which ends Tuesday: "As soon as I leave here, we're going to be doing something. But I have to leave here."

Guinea-Bissau's president inaugurates China-funded highway
BISSAU, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Bissau-Guinean President Umaro Sissoco Embalo on Monday presided over the inauguration ceremony of a highway linking the capital Bissau to its suburb of Safim, covering a distance of 8.2 kilometers. The highway was constructed by Chinese company Longjian Road & Bridge Co., Ltd. and fully financed by the Chinese government at a cost of 30 million U.S. dollars. "This is a symbol of strong friendship, solidarity, and ongoing cooperation between Guinea-Bissau and China," Embalo said during the inauguration of the infrastructure. Chinese Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau Yang Renhuo reaffirmed China's commitment to continue supporting Guinea-Bissau in its development projects.
