Warisan not joining any coalition

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan said the people should not be swayed by political rumours and distractions ahead of the 17th State election. Its Sec-Gen Datuk Loretto Padua Jr said recent rumours claiming that Warisan is joining Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) are aimed at distracting voters from core issues such as the rising cost of living, persistent water and electricity problems, job opportunities and Sabah's control over its own resources. He said the party remains committed to contesting the election independently, using its own logo, and has no plans to join any political coalition. 'Warisan is focused on preparing for the coming State election. We are not aligning with GRS or making deals behind closed doors. These are lies being spread deliberately on social media to confuse and mislead the public,' he said, in a statement. He stressed that Warisan's only alliance is with the people and the party would not take part in 'ongoing political games.' 'Our fight is for the rights and future of Sabahans. This election is about choosing leaders who truly care about Sabah, not those who play political games,' he said.
Advertisement According to him, Warisan has consistently remained as the sole opposition party in Sabah. And coalition is not the solution because the way forward is a firm, people-based movement that puts Sabah first. 'We will continue working with Sabahans and not political elites,' he said. He also voiced disappointment that the Head of State (TYT) institution has been dragged into the political rumours. 'The TYT is above politics and must be respected. (Bernama pic) Kuala Lumpur: The High Court here will hear Muhyiddin Yassin's bid to refer legal questions to the apex court on the validity of certain provisions under the Sedition Act on Aug 28. The former prime minister is accused of making seditious statements during the Nenggiri by-election in Gua Musang, Kelantan, last year. Justice Jamil Hussin fixed the date after lawyer Joshua Tay, appearing for Muhyiddin, told the court that the defence and prosecution had agreed on the date. The court then instructed the prosecution and defence to file their submissions by Aug 14. Deputy public prosecutor Razali Che Ani appeared for the prosecution. Muhyiddin allegedly said he was not invited by the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong to be sworn in as prime minister following the 2022 general election, despite having obtained the majority support of 115 MPs. If found guilty, the Perikatan Nasional chairman and Bersatu president will face a jail term that could extend to three years or a maximum fine of RM5,000. Muhyiddin was initially charged at the Gua Musang sessions court in August last year. Legal questions referral is not about personal immunity, it concerns constitutional integrity: PM

Instead, the Prime Minister said it concerns the integrity of Malaysia's constitutional system and the need to ensure that high public office is protected from litigation that may be strategically timed, politically motivated, or institutionally disruptive. 'I remain fully committed to the rule of law, the independence of our courts, and the dignity of democratic governance. 'The legal process will continue, and I will continue to discharge my responsibilities without distraction or compromise,' he posted on Facebook today. Earlier, the High Court dismissed Anwar's application to refer eight legal questions, including whether the Prime Minister enjoys immunity from lawsuits, to the Federal Court under Article 128(2) of the Federal Constitution (FC). Judge Roz Mawar Rozain made the ruling after finding that none of the articles of a Federal Constitution (FC) cited by Anwar's legal team give rise to any real, substantial or justiciable question of constitutional law requiring determination by the Federal Court under Article 128(2) of the FC or Section 84 of Courts of Judicature Act 1964. Foreigner caught with homemade air rifle in Kalabakan

KALABAKAN: A 39-year-old foreign man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly possessing a homemade air rifle hidden in his home at Felda Tengah 2. Tawau police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was apprehended during a raid by Kalabakan police following intelligence and public tip-offs. Although no illegal items were found during a body search, the suspect failed to produce valid identification documents. Further checks, guided by the suspect, led police to discover the homemade firearm inside his residence.
