
At Geneva World Summit, Saudi Arabia highlights great strides in digital leadership
GENEVA — Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Acting Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) Haytham AlOhali highlighted, while attending the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, Saudi Arabia's great strides in digital leadership. Speaking before senior officials and experts representing 194 countries, he reaffirmed the Kingdom's dedication in supporting the summit's goals and enhancing the role of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in fostering inclusive and sustainable digital communities.
AlOhali showcased Saudi Arabia's progress in advancing the ITU's strategic objectives, referencing key global indicators that reflect the Kingdom's success in the digital domain. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia ranked first globally in the ICT Development Index issued by ITU, reflecting the ongoing development in the ICT sector. He noted that Saudi Arabia is now among the global leaders in providing digital government services and has achieved sixth place globally in the UN E-Government Development Index (EGDI) in 2024.
The deputy minister showcased the Kingdom's robust ICT infrastructure, as the digital economy reached $132 billion in 2024, representing 15 percent of the GDP and half of the region's digital economy.
During the AI World Summit, AlOhali also participated in the "Crafting a well-balanced, pro-innovation regulatory framework" session, during which he emphasized that the foundation of a sustainable AI ecosystem lies in investing in human capital, infrastructure, and clear standards. "Today, we possess the largest technical workforce in the region, comprising over 381,000 specialists, with an annual growth rate of 8.8 percent compared to 350,000 in 2023. We began our journey in 2018 with an investment exceeding $25 billion in digital infrastructure in partnership with the private sector, which enabled the Kingdom to top the 2025 ICT Development Index," he said.
AlOhali noted that Saudi Arabia is scaling up its investments through strategic alliances with major global AI companies, including AMD, AWS, and Qualcomm, in addition to a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to establish a 500MW data center. 'The launch of 'Humain' marks the creation of a regional and global AI powerhouse, backed by robust infrastructure and cloud computing. These initiatives reflect the Kingdom's strong commitment to fostering a thriving AI ecosystem and reinforcing its position as a global hub for sustainable innovation,' he added.

Foreign direct investment nets SR1.9 billion in Saudi stock market for July
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Exchange data showed that net purchases in the main equities market through foreign direct investment reached SR1.9 billion in July 2025. According to the exchange, individual investors recorded net purchases of about SR2.12 billion, while high-net-worth individual investors posted net purchases of SR1.1 billion. In contrast, investment funds registered net sales of SR3.3 billion, and Saudi companies reported net sales of SR1.6 billion. On the trading front, the main Saudi stock index dropped 87.17 points on Sunday, closing at 10,833.10, with a total trading value of SR3.3 billion. The number of shares traded stood at 272 million, with 62 companies seeing gains and 187 declining. The top gainers included Al-Andalus for Sports, Thimar, Nama Chemicals, SPIMACO, and Zamil Industrial, while the biggest losers were Luberef, Jabal Omar, Dar Al Arkan, Obeikan Glass, and Al Waha, with price swings ranging between +9.96% and -9.96%. Al Shams, Al-Andalus for Sports, Bawan, Americana, and Batic were the most active by volume, while the most active by value were Al-Andalus for Sports, Saudi Aramco, Luberef, Al Rajhi, and SABIC Agri-Nutrients. The parallel market index (Nomu) fell 169.14 points to close at 26,755.84, with trades worth SR18 million and more than 2 million shares exchanged.

Saudi Tourism Ministry launches e-service to boost accommodation capacity in Makkah and Madinah for Hajj 1447
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Ministry of Tourism has launched a new e-service enabling operators of licensed hospitality facilities in Makkah and Madinah to apply for increased bed capacity during the upcoming Hajj season of 1447 AH, in line with approved procedures and requirements. The ministry said the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to develop digital services and streamline procedures, enhancing operational efficiency and readiness in the hospitality sector to deliver the highest standards of service to pilgrims. The new service is also part of the ministry's early preparations for Hajj 1447 and its broader strategy to support licensed accommodation providers, improve service quality, and offer seamless and effective electronic solutions. The ministry aims to leverage its digital capabilities to ensure pilgrims' comfort and enable them to perform their spiritual journey with ease and peace of mind. Operators can access the service through the Tourism Activities Licensing Portal on the ministry's website.

OPEC+ to boost oil output by 547,000 bpd in September
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Eight OPEC+ countries — Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman — will raise collective oil production by 547,000 barrels per day in September 2025, the group announced after a virtual meeting on Sunday. The increase is part of a phased rollback of 2.2 million bpd in additional voluntary cuts introduced in April and November 2023, under a plan agreed on Dec. 5, 2024, to gradually and flexibly restore output starting April 1, 2025. The September boost, equivalent to four monthly increments, will be based on the August 2025 required production level. OPEC+ said the pace of restoring production could be paused or reversed if market conditions change, allowing the alliance to maintain stability in global oil markets. The group noted that the move will also allow participating countries to accelerate compensation for past eight producers reaffirmed their commitment to the Declaration of Cooperation and to compensating for any excess output since January will continue holding monthly meetings to review market conditions, conformity, and compensation, with the next session scheduled for Sept. 7, 2025.
