Parnell Square attack trial must be given priority, says judge
Lawyers for Mr Bouchaker (50) told Mr Justice Paul McDermott at the Central Criminal Court on Wednesday morning that they are still waiting for a psychiatrist's report.

The Central Criminal Court has previously heard that a psychiatrist assessing Mr Bouchaker asked for a report from a neuropsychologist. That report has been given to the psychiatrist, who has indicated she will complete her report within three weeks.
Mr Justice McDermott noted the age of the complainants and said the case must be given priority as soon as the psychiatric issue is resolved. He asked that everyone involved, including lawyers and professionals, "strain themselves" to ensure it gets on as quickly as possible.

Mr Bouchaker, of no fixed abode, is charged with the attempted murder of two girls and one boy. He is also charged with assault causing serious harm to a care worker and possession or production of a knife.
The incident occurred at Parnell Square on the afternoon of November 23rd, 2023.
In February this year, the Department of Justice and the courts announced a protocol to fast-track trials involving children. The courts have committed to completing the trial process within one year, where possible, if a child is the alleged victim or perpetrator.

Silver's son testified in court that his father endured gruesome injuries from the attack, including facial trauma, fractures to his collar bones, a concussion, a hematoma on his face, and a brain bleed. Castillo's arrest report stated that he wanted to confront the doctor about prescribing his mother narcotics after a procedure she had in June. His mother, Carolina Perez, previously testified in court that she had trauma from drugs, which her son was aware of. She tearfully admitted that she couldn't be prescribed narcotics. Perez added that she didn't know her son was planning on confronting her doctor at the hospital. The defendant's family declined to speak to reporters outside of the courtroom, but Dr. Silvers said he was relieved the case was ending. The doctor told reporters after the sentencing hearing that he was relieved to be finished with the case Circuit Court Judge Alberto Milian presided over the case, calling the altercation a 'brutal attack on a 69-year-old man. 'For over 35 years, I have had the privilege of bringing joy to new parents and caring for women in our community,' Silvers said in a statement after his attack. 'My commitment extends beyond local boundaries, as I have actively volunteered both here and globally for over 35 years as well.' 'I continue to work because I am passionate about my patients and my profession. This situation, however, has been incredibly difficult for both me and my family.'

Labour MSP is charged over indecent images: Colin Smyth suspended by party after arrest
The Scottish Labour MSP Colin Smyth has been arrested and charged with the possession of indecent images of children. The party has suspended the former modern studies teacher, who served as Scottish Labour's top official before entering Holyrood in 2016, and withdrawn the whip. Mr Smyth said he was in 'shock' and was cooperating with the authorities. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: 'On Tuesday, 5 August, 2025, officers executed a warrant at a property in Dumfries. 'A 52-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with possession of indecent images. He is due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date.' The married father-of-two is now sitting as an Independent MSP for South Scotland. In a statement, Mr Smyth said: 'These events have come as a shock and this is a deeply stressful time. 'I am obviously cooperating fully with any inquiries and hope the matter can be resolved quickly. 'I am not able to comment further at this stage, and in the meantime I would ask that my family and friends are given privacy.' A Scottish Labour spokesman said: 'The whip has been removed from Colin Smyth MSP, pending an investigation. 'We cannot comment further on this matter while the investigation is ongoing.' He was elected to Holyrood for the first time in 2016 as a list MSP for South Scotland.
