James Cameron's wife cried for ‘four hours' after watching latest Avatar film
James Cameron has indicated to Avatar fans that the next instalment of the blockbuster series will be emotional as his wife reportedly cried for four hours after watching it.
Although Avatar: Fire and Ash will not be released until December 2025, Cameron has already started screening it to 'a few selected people. '
Cameron has been hard at work on the next instalment of his long-running blockbuster franchise after the release of sequel The Way of Water in 2022.
According to the director, 'the feedback has been [that] it's definitely the most emotional and maybe the best of the three so far'.
Speaking to Empire, Cameron said his wife, Suzy Amis Cameron, has had one of the strongest reactions so far.
'My wife watched the whole thing from end to end - she had kept herself away from it and I wasn't showing her bits and pieces as we went along. This was December 22nd,' said the Canadian director.
'She bawled for four hours,' he added. 'She kept trying to get her s*** back together so she could tell me specific reactions, and then she'd just tear up and start crying again. Finally, I'm like, 'Honey, I've got to go to bed. Sorry, we'll talk about it some other time.''
This response would have been a relief to Cameron, who has set almost impossible standards for the success of the third film.
He had previously expressed concern shortly before The Way of Water was released over the 12-year gap between the first film. Yet he needn't have worried, as The Way of Water became the third highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing another of his biggest films, Titanic.
Elsewhere, Cameron also told Empire that the new film will be slightly longer than its predecessor.
'In a nutshell, we had too many great ideas packed into act one of movie two. The [film] was moving like a bullet train, and we weren't drilling down enough on character. So I said, 'Guys, we've got to split it.''
'Movie 3 will actually be a little bit longer than movie 2.'
Despite its controversial runtime, The Way of Water was a huge financial success and currently ranks as the third highest-grossing movie of all time.

Netflix fans keep watching 'amazing new take on a classic' despite low rating
Fans have been singing its praises despite initial reviews Netflix viewers can't stop watching a 'must see film' that offers a fresh spin on a classic tale. The 2018 release, Robin Hood, has surprisingly become one of the most viewed titles on the platform, despite a meagre 14% rating. At the time of writing, it currently sits in second place in the top ten films most watched by subscribers in the UK. It's sandwiched between recent releases Tyler Perry's Straw in the top spot and French action thriller K.O. in third. Robin Hood is a radical reinterpretation of the timeless story of the outlaw who robbed from the rich to give to the poor. In this version, Taron Egerton, known for his roles in Kingsman, Rocketman and Carry-On, portrays Lord Robin of Loxley. He seeks revenge after returning from the Third Crusade to discover that the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham, played by Rogue One's Ben Mendelsohn, has declared him dead and seized all his property, reports Surrey Live. According to Empire's review of the film, Robin's journey mirrors that of Bruce Wayne becoming Batman. Egerton's rendition of the character even starts being referred to as 'The Hood'. He is trained by Jamie Foxx's character Yahya or John. Meanwhile, Robin also attempts to win back his girlfriend Marian, played by Eve Hewson, who later starred in Netflix's The Perfect Couple. Marian is now with another man, Will Scarlet, portrayed by Jamie Dornan, who is actually a member of the Merry Men in the original tales. Despite the somewhat tepid critical reception of the film, Netflix audiences have found reasons to be entertained. One admirer took to the internet to express their thoughts, stating: "This is a must see movie. Its a new take and twist of the classic tale of Robin Hood and breathes life into the legend once again. It might not be the most historically accurate remake of the tale but that is part of its charm." They pressed on, saying: "Solid stunts and despite all the hate the movie has endured none can question the hard work and love the whole cast and crew put into it. Their extraordinary archery skills are way beyond just CGI. In fact they were trained by famous archer Lars Anderson and can more than handle themselves around a bow and arrow." Another enthusiast commented: "I thought this film was incredible. An amazing new take on a classic. The immense number of Robin Hood films were starting to repeat one another and it was frankly getting tired, but this brought the movies back alive for younger audiences that perhaps haven't been too engaged in the previous versions. With a brilliant cast, some of which are popular, well known actors, and others who are rising stars, I think the production is incredible." One person even suggested: "Outside of the legendary (Disney) cartoon, this is the best Robin Hood out there." Meanwhile, another voiced a congruent opinion: "It was so much better than expected. It was a different take on the old Robin Hood movies." However, not all viewers were impressed. One disgruntled film-goer echoed the critics' sentiments, stating: "Everything was just as bad as the trailer promised. Don't watch this unwatchable piece of garbage. It will haunt your eyes forever."

London AI firm says Getty copyright case poses ‘overt threat' to industry
Getty's case against Stability AI for copyright and trademark infringement relating to its vast photography archives reached the high court in London on Monday. Stability allows users to generate images using text prompts, and its directors include James Cameron, the Oscar-winning film director of Avatar and Titanic. But Getty called the people who were training the AI system 'a bunch of tech geeks' and claimed they were indifferent to the problems their innovation might create. Stability countered by alleging that Getty was using 'fanciful' legal routes and spending approximately £10m to fight a technology it feared was 'an existential threat' to its business. They added: 'The problem is when AI companies such as Stability want to use those works without payment.' In submissions to the court on Monday Getty claimed Stability had trained its image generation model on databases that contained child sexual abuse material. Stability is fighting the overall Getty claim and its lawyer said the allegations relating to child sexual abuse material were 'repugnant'. A spokesperson for Stability AI said it was committed to preventing misuse of its technology, 'particularly in the creation and dissemination of harmful content, including CSAM [child sexual abuse material]'. It said it had robust safeguards 'to enhance our safety standards to protect against bad actors'. The UK parliament is locked in a similar dispute after the government proposed that copyright holders would have to opt out of their material being used to train algorithms and produce AI-generated content, otherwise it would be free to use by tech companies. The trial, which is scheduled to run for several weeks, will focus in part on the use of images by celebrated photographers, including photos of the former Liverpool football coach Jürgen Klopp taken by the award-winning British sports photographer Andrew Livesey; a picture of the Chicago Cubs baseball team by Gregory Shamus, an American sports photographer; a photo of the actor and musician Donald Glover by Alberto Rodriguez; and photos of the actor Eric Dane and film director Christopher Nolan by Andreas Rentz. Seventy-eight thousand pages of evidence have been disclosed in the case and AI experts are being called to give evidence from the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Freiberg in Germany.
