Reports: Colorado's Deion Sanders has unspecified illness
Colorado football coach Deion Sanders is at his home in Texas dealing with an 'unspecified health issue,' ESPN reported Tuesday.
Sanders, 57, was away from campus as the school's annual summer football camps began last week, according to USA Today.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer's oldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., said his father was 'feeling well' in a livestream on YouTube Sunday, but there is no timetable for his return.
'He'll tell y'all soon enough what he's going through, what he went through,' Deion Jr. stated, according to USA Today. 'When we get back to Boulder? I don't know. I'm waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I'll go. Until then, I'm going to sit here with him.'
Colorado opens the season at home against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29.
The Buffaloes finished 9-4 (7-2 Big 12) in Sanders' second season in 2024 but lost two of their most high-profile players -- Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and quarterback (and coach's son) Shedeur Sanders -- to the 2025 NFL Draft.
Deion Sanders has dealt with health problems in the recent past. He had two toes amputated in 2022 due to blood clots and also missed the Pac-12 media day in 2023 because of blood clots in his legs.
Sanders had been scheduled to speak last weekend at a medical conference in Florida but had to cancel.

ESPN insider Shams Charania is listing the Houston Rockets first among a group of five NBA trade suitors for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant. In order, the list consists of the Rockets, the San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, and New York Knicks. Durant was nearly traded to the Golden State Warriors at the February 2025 trade deadline before he made it clear that he was not interested in a reunion and preferred to finish the season with the Suns. At the time, sources told ESPN that Durant was blindsided by the Suns including him in any trade conversations. This time around, the sides are expected to work together on his next home. Durant is slated to make $54.7 million next season, so the Rockets would have to send out close to that amount in salary in order for a trade to work, financially. The Athletic's Kelly Iko and Sam Amick previously reported that Durant is very interested in playing for the Rockets. Houston does have a significant amount of future draft capital from Phoenix that could be of interest to the Suns in a trade, but it remains unclear how much (if any) that the Rockets would give up in a deal for Durant — who turns 37 years old later this year. A 6-foot-11 forward, Durant averaged 26.6 points (52.7% FG, 43.0% on 3-pointers), 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 62 games last season. In February, the former Most Valuable Player (MVP) earned his 15th career All-Star selection. Clemson climbs ESPN's latest 2026 recruiting rankings as the hot recruiting run continues Clemson football's 2026 recruiting class continues to climb the national ranks as ESPN bumped the Tigers up to No. 4 in its latest update, reflecting a strong June filled with key visits and commitments. The Tigers now boast 10 ESPN 300 commitments, keeping them firmly in the top tier of national recruiters. Leading the charge on offense is recent addition Leo Delaney, the top-rated offensive commit in the class according to ESPN. The offensive tackle ranks No. 75 overall and No. 11 at his position. He joins a deep group of highly rated linemen that includes Carter Scruggs, Grant Wise, Adam Guthrie, and Chancellor Barclay — all ESPN 300 prospects. With several veterans on track to graduate after the 2025 season, this group will play a vital role in reloading Clemson's offensive front for the future.
