St Mirren announce Malik Dijksteel signing as club closes in on two more targets
Boss Stephen Robinson has been busy during the summer transfer window as he reshapes his Buddies squad. St Mirren have today announced the signing of winger Malik Dijksteel with more new faces on the way. Dijksteel has penned a two-and-a-half-year pre-contract agreement with the Buddies and he will make the move to Paisley in January 2026 when his contract with League of Ireland side Cork City expires. The 24-year-old, who was born in the Netherlands, becomes the Premiership club's eighth summer signing. He came through the academy at Dutch Eredivisie giants Feyenoord where he played alongside the likes of Arsenal's Jurrien Timber and Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee. He moved to the UK in 2021 where he joined Middlesbrough before signing with Irish Cork in 2023 via spells at non-league Whitby Town and Wrexham. Dijksteel has so far made 41 appearances for the Rebel Army, scoring five goals, and will provide more competition for places in the final third. On the signing, Saints manager Stephen Robinson said: 'Malik is a player that we have kept tabs on over the last six months. 'He's a real bright spark in the final third. He's quick, direct, takes players on and I think the fans will really take to him given how exciting he is.' Dijksteel will join Liam Donnelly, Ryan Mullen, Richard King, Jayden Richardson and Tunmise Sobowale as new faces at the club with Killian Phillips and Roland Idowu turning last season's loans into permanent moves. However, business isn't finished here with the club close to securing another winger, as well as making moves for a goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Jalmaro Calvin, who was spotted in the stands at Station Park when Saints beat Fofar Athletic 2-1 in the Premier Sports Cup last Tuesday night, looks set to be the latest capture. The Jamaican international, who was team-mates with King at Cavalier in the island's Premier League, has been confirmed by the league's X (formerly Twitter) page to have signed on at the SMiSA Stadium. The post read: 'Jalmaro Calvin completes a permanent transfer from Cavalier FC to Scottish Premiership side St Mirren FC. 'Another young star takes his talent to Europe — go shine, Jalmaro!' It is a deal that Robbo is eager to get over the line with securing a work permit thought to be the hold-up. The Northern Irishman previously said: 'If we get the Jalmaro through, which looks positive, it gives us another bit of pace, energy and excitement. 'I love pace and my teams love energy. And, if you look at the boys we brought in, they've got electric pace. We're just waiting for paperwork now [to be done for Calvin]. It's the usual paperwork. 'But you take nothing for granted in this world until it's done and dusted. But we believe he's a really quick electric player who, again, needs to get up to the speed of the UK game and the physicality of the UK game, especially in Scotland.' Another player looking like he might soon end up in Paisley is former Livingston and current Wycombe Wanderers goalkeeper Shamal George. The 27-year-old keeper has only made five appearances for the Chairboys since joining in August 2024 and may be brought in to challenge Peter Urminsky and Mullen for the No 1 jersey.

Gerwyn Price felt 'head was going to blow off' during spicy Daryl Gurney clash
Gerwyn Price says his head was going to blow off at times during his feisty World Matchplay win over Daryl Gurney, which ended in confrontational fashion. Price won the opening round match 10-7 in Blackpool on Monday night, continuing the fine form he has shown in recent weeks. It was a tasty contest between the two, with Gurney mocking Price's trademark celebrations and the Iceman seemingly being much more reserved than normal in a bid to keep a lid on his emotions. After the Welshman hit the winning double, it looked like it would all end in friendly fashion but Price gave a very aggressive handshake, which suggested all was not fine between the two. Price did not give away much on his feelings on Gurney, but did say he was doing his best to remain calm throughout the game. 'I just felt like I needed to keep myself composed,' he said. 'I was forcing to not let my emotions get the best of me. Sometimes that's what happens, sometimes I try and control it. 'I think possibly that's what got me over the winning line, try to keep everything intact and let it go at the end. 'I know if it was five, six, seven years ago that game probably could have got away from me and slipped away. But I've learned to keep my emptions intact at key points where my head was going to blow off but I had to keep it in.' Gurney's Northern Ireland World Cup teammate Josh Rock was also in action on Monday, brilliantly beating Ross Smith. He said of the incident: 'I didn't think there was anything in it until Daryl saw the funny side of it and Gezzy didn't.' Ahead of the match, Price had said that his relationship with the Northern Irishman is very good. 'I get on really well with Daryl, he's playing some good stuff,' said the former world champion. 'I get on really well with him and I think it'll be a really good game.' The Iceman also seemed to make light of the clash on social media after the game, referencing his recent weight loss as he wrote on Instagram: 'Have to be careful these days I'm down to light cruiser weight.' Price was very impressive, averaging 100.21 in the victory which set up a last 16 meeting with Chris Dobey. Hollywood's 10-5 win over Ricardo Pietreczko was not so sparkling, with Dobey needing an average of just 90.95. Rock was the star of Monday night as he secured a 10-5 victory with a 104.32 against Smith to book a meeting with Michael van Gerwen in the next round. Tiger Woods' feelings clear after Scottie Scheffler's 'silly' response - 'I did it differently'
The Open Championship winner Scottie Scheffler continues to play down comparisons with Tiger Woods, while the golf icon himself has observed some key similarities and differences Tiger Woods has highlighted the differences and similarities between his game and Scottie Scheffler 's, despite the latter dismissing comparisons with the golfing legend as 'a bit silly'. Scheffler, 29, is currently enjoying one of the most dominant runs on the PGA Tour since Woods' historic streak in the early 2000s. The Texan has held the world 's No. 1 ranking spot since March 2022, winning four major tournaments in that time. He won the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in May before delivering a fantastic performance at Royal Portrush last week, which saw him claim his first The Open Championship. His display showcased the same dominance and consistency he has enjoyed over the past two years as he carded 17-under par, beating the field by four strokes. That meant he completed a third leg of the career Grand Slam, taking him to within just one US Open victory of joining golf's elite, including Woods. Despite his clear dominance, Scheffler has been quick to shut down suggestions that he is approaching 15-time major winner Woods' level. He said after his win at the Open: 'I still think they [the comparisons] are a bit silly. 'Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth. I just got one-fourth of the way there.' 'I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf,' Scheffler added. 'He was inspirational for me growing up. He was a very, very talented guy, and he was a special person to be able to be as good as he was at the game of golf.' But Woods, 49, has been less dismissive of the comparisons. He recently appeared in a PGA Tour video, which featured players discussing Scheffler's game, and offered high praise and deep insight into what makes the 29-year-old so special. He said: 'We see shots into the greens very similarly, how we miss golf balls into the correct spots. It's not always pretty, but it's not about the here and now. "It's about the long game. It's over 72 holes. It's not a sprint; it's a marathon. I think that's the similarity in how we play the game.' Woods went on to say that while their styles differ, their approaches share core elements. 'I did it differently," he said. "My game was very violent at times. We played differently. He slid on it. I snapped on it.' He also highlighted a subtle but major aspect of Scheffler's technique which only another elite golfer might notice, saying: 'Forget all the footwork stuff. If you just sat behind him and only looked at the golf ball, you'd see how tight it is. He doesn't move the ball very much either way. 'If you understand the fact that he hits in these tight windows and shapes it in varying degrees, you can understand why he's able to control distance into the greens as well as he does.' Scheffler has now been ranked the No. 1 golfer in the world for 148 straight weeks – the longest such streak since Woods held the world's top spot for 264 consecutive weeks between August 1999 and September 2004, and again for 281 straight weeks from June 2005 until October 2010. Some have even taken notice of Scheffler's mannerisms on the golf course this past weekend which were reminiscent of Woods when he was at the top of his game, including a dramatic fist pump after sinking a 15-foot putt on the sixth hole.
