Fish and chips no longer come cheap, but this Scottish town still serve it for a bargain
Scotland's cheapest city for a chippy tea has been revealed, and it is good news for hungry Dundonians.
A new nationwide ranking by WDW Bingo has crowned Dundee the third most affordable place in the UK to enjoy a portion of fish and chips, with an average price of just £9.47.

The survey analysed thousands of traditional chip shop menus in more than 50 towns and cities ahead of National Fish and Chip Day, which takes place on June 6, Express reports.

The classic British favourite has long been a staple of seaside holidays and Friday nights, but in recent years the cost of a fish supper has been steadily creeping up. While once a cheap treat, it is fast becoming a pricey indulgence, depending on where you live.
Manchester came out on top as the most budget-friendly place for fish and chips, with an average cost of just £8.94, while Walsall took second place at £9.17.
Dundee secured third spot, beating the likes of Derby (£9.70), Bradford (£9.87) and Stoke-on-Trent (£9.88), which all still offer a portion of the classic for under a tenner.
Glasgow landed in tenth place on the list with an average price of £10.37, while Aberdeen and Edinburgh were a little further down, at £10.67 and £10.93 respectively.

At the other end of the scale, Exeter was named the most expensive city for fish and chips, with an eye-watering average price of £16.55, nearly double the cost in Manchester.
London came in close behind at £16.29, showing that the capital's high cost of living even extends to its takeaways.

The South West featured prominently among the priciest places, with Torquay (£15.60) and Bristol (£13.99) both making the list.
Ipswich (£13.86), Bournemouth and Southend-on-Sea (both £13.43), and Cambridge (£13.37) also ranked among the most expensive. Belfast completed the top ten, with an average price of £13.21.
The findings come just days after Scotland's top chippy was crowned in the annual Scottish Takeaway Awards. Sea Salt and Sole, which operates four locations in Aberdeen and the surrounding area, took home the title for best fish and chip shop.
The team prides itself on serving up fresh haddock daily, with a focus on sustainable sourcing and traditional preparation to deliver a top-notch supper.
