Morocco – How can Korean technology accelerate Africa's transformation? The Korea-Africa Foundation (KAF), in collaboration with PEN Ventures and IMPACT Lab, is bringing seven of Korea's most promising startups to GITEX Africa 2025, one of the continent's largest tech and innovation events, held on April 14-16, 2025 in Marrakech.
These pioneering companies are set to introduce breakthrough solutions in agritech, clean energy, smart tourism, digital learning, and smart infrastructure, addressing Africa's most pressing challenges.
The Korea-Africa Foundation (KAF) is a government-affiliated organization under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea, dedicated to strengthening Korea-Africa cooperation. The KAF supports Korean startups' entry into African markets through acceleration programs, business matching, and innovation partnerships.
By empowering these 7 pioneering exhibitors - EKLEER, Movements, CAST, BODIT, Purple Education, H2O HOSPITALITY, SHERPA SPAC - KAF is creating new opportunities for collaboration and market expansion. EKLEER

A smart agriculture pioneer offering precision farming solutions with sensors, climate control, irrigation systems, and adaptive lighting. Already active in Uganda, Sherpa Space now targets North Africa.
BODIT
Blending medical tech with precision livestock farming, BODIT uses smart sensors to track calves' health, feeding, and behavior. In Kenya, it cut mortality from 32.6% to 0.6% and significantly improved milk yields — enhancing animal welfare, farm profitability, and sustainability.
This initiative is part of the KAF's 2025 Korea-Africa Unicorn Acceleration Program, which aims to foster partnerships between Korean innovators and African stakeholders. PEN Ventures, a key accelerator in Korea, and IMPACT Lab, a key innovation player in Africa, are working together alongside the KAF to support the startups' market entry through internationalization strategy support, local expertise, and strategic connections.
Since 2023, the Korea-Africa Foundation has actively participated in GITEX Africa, recognizing it as a strategic gateway for Korean startups looking to expand into African markets.
Jongkil Lee, Director of the KAF, emphasized the significance of this ongoing engagement: ' ' Morocco is emerging as a key innovation hub, and since 2023, we have supported 28 Korean startups at GITEX Africa. This year, we focus on transformative solutions and strategic partnerships driving Africa's digital future.''

UAE's Khazna, NVIDIA partner to build AI-capable mega data centres across MEA
UAE-headquartered Khazna Data Centres (Khazna) announced on Wednesday a strategic collaboration with US-based chipmaker NVIDIA to develop large-scale data centres ready for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. The company said that its current and future projects will be designed to be full compatible with the NVIDIA's latest GPU-accelerated technologies and workloads NVIDIA has certified Khazna's upcoming facility designs to support its latest GPU architecture Blackwell. As part of its expansion strategy, Khazna will develop data halls with individual capacities of up to 50 megawatts (MW), and AI clusters of up to 250MW each. Many of these will be housed within the planned 5-gigawatt (GW) UAE-US AI campus announced during the recent visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to the UAE. Khazna said it plans to reach 1 GW of capacity with data centre projects in France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Türkiye, and Kenya. 'Our work with NVIDIA represents a bold step forward in delivering high-performance, future-ready infrastructure at unprecedented scale,' said Hassan Alnaqbi, CEO of Khazna Data Centres. Standing Committee on Appropriations Calls for Urgency in Dealing with Municipal Debt to Eskom
The Standing Committee on Appropriations has urged Eskom to collaborate closely with the National Treasury and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to ensure that there is full municipal cooperation in the implementation of the Distribution Agency Agreement (DAA) programme. The power utility briefed the committee today regarding the Eskom Debt Relief Bill. The committee expressed deep concern over Eskom's increasing debt levels and that the power utility continues its trajectory towards unsustainable indebtedness. The Chairperson of the committee, Mr Mmusi Maimane said: 'When we examine the various pieces of legislation under consideration by this committee, it is undeniable that Eskom remains a pivotal component. The state of Eskom's liquidity, along with serious concerns raised by municipalities around debt servicing are critical factors, especially in light of the appropriations made to Eskom.' Mr Maimane said he feared that Eskom will be heavily indebted despite being in receipt of the Eskom Debt Relief Bill. The committee further said the lack of urgency in addressing underperforming and financially distressed municipalities, many of which are unable to service their debts to Eskom, is a major contributor to Eskom's debt burden. The committee also highlighted that Eskom was not doing enough to curb the 'ghost tokens' in the pre-paid electricity segment and the failure to address it has contributed to significant revenue losses. Furthermore, the committee recommended that the power utility needs to ensure that it deals decisively with acts of sabotage carried out by its own employees. The committee cautioned that that the power utility needs to begin exploring ways to harness its own energy sources and not rely on independent power producers as this process can easily be influenced by political forces. The committee called on Eskom to urgently implement decisive reforms to address inefficiencies, improve governance, enhance revenue collection, and safeguard its infrastructure. The committee will tomorrow, 11 June receive a briefing from the City of Johannesburg and the City of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipalities on the 2025 Division of Revenue Bill. KFAED allocates $11.4bln for 540 development projects in Africa
KUWAIT CITY - Acting Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) Waleed Al-Bahar said Tuesday, the fund financed 540 development projects in more than 50 African countries at a value exceeding USD 11.4 billion. This came as Al-Bahar participated in the Africa Day celebration held at the invitation of the ambassadors and heads of African diplomatic missions accredited to Kuwait to commemorate the founding of the African Union. The fund's operations in Africa and its projects represent approximately 57 percent of its total global activity and have contributed to a qualitative shift in the economies of African countries and improved people's living, said Al-Bahar in a statement. He expressed pride in KFAED's relations with African countries, stressing his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and achieving greater progress, prosperity, and development for the peoples of the continent through ongoing cooperation. Regarding the Africa Day celebration, Al-Bahar said that the fund is participating for the ninth consecutive year with a special pavilion highlighting its development and humanitarian efforts on the African continent. This year's celebration saw the participation of more than 30 African Union embassies, displaying their cultural and historical heritage through exhibits, collectibles, and craft tools that reflect the diverse professions and activities of each country, he added. KFAED was established in 1961 as the first development institution in the Arab region, before expanding its scope of activities to include developing countries starting in 1974, with its contributions reaching 105 countries to date.
