Global Prize Targets Energy Wellbeing Crisis
As mental and physical strain quietly wear down the global energy workforce, a new initiative backed by UAE-based healthcare giants is aiming to shift the spotlight. The $1 million Human Energy Award, jointly launched by Response Plus Holding and Burjeel Holdings, is the first of its kind to reward organisations tackling the growing crisis of employee wellbeing in high-stress energy environments. The inaugural winner will be named at ADIPEC 2025.
Positioned as a global benchmark in workforce wellbeing, the award will go to an organisation that can demonstrate the most innovative, impactful and measurable solution to improve health outcomes for energy workers. It is open to companies of all sizes, with a strong emphasis on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises across the global energy supply chain.
Focus on prevention
The organisers say the award reflects a broader shift in industry thinking, where resilience, mental health and preventive care are now seen as central to operational performance. The initiative is not only about care but about culture, rewarding those who build systems that protect and uplift the people powering the world's energy.
Dr Richard Heron, former Vice President of Health and Chief Medical Officer at BP, will chair the independent international jury. He will be joined by renowned wellness coach Vinay Menon and global energy analyst John Defterios, creating a panel that brings together expertise in occupational medicine, elite athletic wellness and macroeconomic insight.
Industry leaders speak out
Dr Rohil Raghavan, CEO of Response Plus Holding, said the award reflects RPM's commitment to placing people at the centre of progress and aims to set a new benchmark for valuing the workforce.
Steven Wines, CEO of Prometheus Medical International and head of the steering committee, said the goal is to encourage innovative solutions that make a tangible difference to people across the energy value chain.
Burjeel Holdings CEO John Sunil echoed the sentiment, noting the award underlines the vital role of preventive care and well-being in sustaining a resilient workforce.

Launched in line with the 'We the UAE 2031' agenda and the UAE National Wellbeing Strategy, the award reflects the country's ambition to lead on global standards in health, innovation and human capital development.

'This programme offers a comprehensive training environment that includes workshops, legal briefings, and actual field participation,' the Minister said, adding that participants who complete the course will be formally recognised as Consumer Protection Ambassadors and receive experience certificates and incentives. Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, praised the collaboration between the two ministries, calling it an 'exceptional model' for how national institutions can jointly prepare a qualified, socially responsible generation.

Bahrain Pushes Experiential Tourism Talent Exchange

The Kingdom, currently presiding over the Arab Technical Tourism Committee, presented a suite of action-oriented proposals during the committee's 13th session. Noora Al Saadoon, Director of Policy and Planning at the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), chaired the meeting and urged member states to transition from planning to implementation in cross-border tourism collaboration. Regional mobility One of Bahrain's headline proposals was the launch of joint Arab tourism packages. These integrated itineraries would enable tourists to visit multiple destinations within the region in a single trip, an effort designed to increase stays, boost spending, and strengthen the Arab world's collective appeal as a seamless travel experience. The session also tackled how to build a more resilient tourism sector amid fast-changing global travel patterns and technological disruption. Capacity-building focus Al Saadoon introduced a second major Bahraini initiative: an 'experiential learning exchange' that would allow Arab tourism professionals to gain hands-on experience across destinations and administrative institutions within the region. She said this initiative would strengthen both institutional and human capital, enabling Arab tourism entities to adapt more effectively to global demands while fostering deeper professional links across borders. Implementation next The committee's recommendations, including both Bahraini proposals, will be submitted to the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism at its upcoming session. Final approval and implementation timelines are expected to follow. Categories across sectors This year's award categories reflect Bahrain's evolving digital priorities. Public and private entities can compete in categories including Best Website, Best Practice in eParticipation, Best Integrated eServices, Best Work Environment for Digital Innovation, Best Utilization of Artificial Intelligence, and Best Project for Digital Transformation. In addition, the private sector has a dedicated category for Best Applications for Smart Devices, while individuals can compete for the Best Digital Initiative Award. The iGA noted that the deadline extension was granted in response to participant requests, allowing extra time for applicants to meet submission requirements.
