Jacksonville contingent helping FAU Owls, new High Five Power Polls released
The Florida Atlantic Owls softball team is having a banner season and a little bit of Jacksonville is helping the Owls soar to new heights.
The softball team out of Boca Raton has been in the top 25 multiple times this season and was most recently ranked 22nd in the country. They are 29-5 and 8-1 in conference play so far this season.
Three players from the Jacksonville area have been key contributors to the Owls' success.

We featured all three on No Gate Fees on Wednesday. Watch the interview with these star softball players from the Jacksonville area below:
Kylie Hammonds out of Creekside High School plays outfield, has started all 34 games and is third on the team in hitting with a .330 average.
Kiley Channell, an infielder, out of Keystone Heights has also started all 34 games and is fifth on the team in hitting with a .318 average.
Ciara Gibson, a utility player, out of Oakleaf High School is third on the team in slugging percentage.

Jaguars' Travis Hunter is fitting in just fine in Jacksonville
The Jacksonville Jaguars' unicorn, Travis Hunter, seems to be on his way to seamlessly make the transition from collegiate amateur to NFL superstar. Hunter has yet to even take a snap, and yet his impact has already been felt both on the practice field and all over Duval County. Just this week, Hunter went viral yet again for an insane interception at the Jaguars' OTAs, but how is Hunter handling the transition to the NFL? Advertisement Action Sports Jax's Brent Martineau sat down with Hunter and discussed what it's been like for him since being drafted and what life is like inside the building. When asked that very question, Hunter replied, 'It's going great, it's a dream come true, and just happy to be out here with the guys, just being goofy and being myself.' 'I'm enjoying being a Jag, just being here, being able to play and being in the league, living my dream like I said before,' Hunter said. For some, the pressure might be too much. The day Hunter was drafted, he instantly became the franchise's most popular player ever. For many, that pressure can be overwhelming, but for Hunter, it almost seems natural. Advertisement He's just focused on football and being the very best player he can be for Head Coach Liam Coen and the rest of the coaching staff. Speaking of Coen, Hunter said he's picking things up quickly in Coen's playbook. 'The playbook is of course harder here, but I just go about it the same way, do what I have to do to be on the football field and playing fast,' Hunter said. Hunter went on to say that he's a perfect fit for Coen's offense. 'I fit perfectly. One of the guys, going to get the ball in the right spot and do my job,' Hunter said. Even so, Hunter doesn't want to set goals for himself just yet and knows he needs to be patient with himself. Success isn't instant gratification; it takes time and effort, and he knows that. Coaches understand they are putting a lot on our plate right now, but as a player, you want to do everything right, you want to make sure you do everything right.' When asked what stands out about Thomas, Hunter said, 'His work ethic. He's going to do exactly what coach wants but he's also going to make a play every time the ball comes to him.' All signs point towards redemption for Arik Armstead
It's hard to call 2024 anything but a disappointment for Arik Armstead. The Jaguars signed Armstead to a three-year, $43.5 million contract, however, it wasn't enough to find his way into the starting lineup as Armstead started just one game for the Jaguars. Advertisement In large part, his lack of playtime and success can be attributed to the strange decision from the coaching staff to play Armstead at defensive end, despite his well-documented success along the interior. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< To add insult to injury, the Jaguars fielded the league's worst interior pass-rush, the area many thought Armstead was brought in to remedy. Despite the Jaguars signing one of the league's premier defensive tackles, not much really changed. Luckily, the new Jaguars' staff seems intent on letting Armstead move back inside, signing Emmanuel Ogbah to be the team's rotational pass-rusher in his place, along with the selection of Auburn's Jalen McLeod. Advertisement Unsurprisingly, Armstead performed much better inside than outside last season. According to NextGenStats, Armstead boasted a 10.5% pressure rate inside compared to his 8.3% at defensive end. His 10.5% pressure rate inside ranked pretty favorably and was comparable to both the Chiefs' Chris Jones (10.6%) and the Giants' Dexter Lawrence (9.6%), both of whom are multi-time All-Pros. As the season went on, Armstead looked to become more comfortable. From Week 10 on, Armstead was just as productive as the Jaguars' two starting defensive ends, Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker. Despite far fewer snaps, Armstead (24) fell just one pressure shy of Walker (25) and two shy of Hines-Allen (26). His 13.7% pressure rate over the last nine weeks led the team, as did Armstead's 16.2% pass-rush win rate, according to Pro Football Focus. Advertisement With a new defensive system, the transition back inside, and the opportunity for far more snaps, Arik Armstead has the ability to re-cement himself among the NFL's best defensive tackles. His hot streak to end the season might just continue into 2025, especially now that he has Walker and Hines-Allen beside him rather than in front of him.
