AIIMS Bhopal Student Dies by Suicide At AFMC Pune Amid Academic Stress
In a tragic incident, an 18-year-old first-year medical student from AIIMS Bhopal, identified as Utkarsh Mahadev Shingne, allegedly died by suicide at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune on Monday morning.
A native of Maharashtra's Beed district, Utkarsh was visiting AFMC to attend a cultural festival held on May 8. According to the Pune police, before taking the drastic step, he posted a suicide note as his WhatsApp display picture, which alerted his family early in the morning.
Concerned by the note and unable to reach him by phone, his relatives quickly contacted the Pune police control room around 6:15 a.m. A team from Wanavdi police station immediately responded and began a search of the AFMC campus. He was discovered in the common bathroom of the boys' hostel.
Senior police inspector Satyajit Admane reported that Utkarsh was found unconscious, seated on a commode, surrounded by blood. He was declared dead by AFMC doctors at the scene. A knife, believed to have been used in the act, was recovered along with some personal items.
Initial investigations revealed that Utkarsh had been undergoing treatment for depression linked to academic stress for over a year at AIIMS Bhopal. Police believe he purchased the knife online and used it to end his life.
The authorities have filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) at Wanavdi police station and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway to understand the circumstances that led to the incident.

Two persons arrested for Rs 10L travel voucher fraud
Rourkela: Cyber police arrested two employees of a local IT-enabled services company on Friday night for allegedly defrauding their German client of around Rs 10 lakh through unauthorised manipulation of travel vouchers. They have been identified as Goutam Kumar Marndi (23) and Pitamber Hembram (24), both residents of Sector-19 here. The accused, whose employer provided customer support services to the German firm, allegedly created unauthorised tickets using travel vouchers meant for compensating customers with cancelled bookings. "The accused exploited their legitimate access to German company's online portal to create unauthorized tickets, which they sold at 40% discount through WhatsApp and Telegram channels," said Serofina Xess, IIC, Cyber police station, Rourkela. Investigation revealed that Marndi and Hembram collaborated with external parties to sell these discounted tickets, causing significant financial loss to German company, which operates in over 43 countries. The fraud came to light on May 2, 2025, when the company discovered unauthorised leakage and misuse of these voucher codes. Police found multiple WhatsApp accounts linked to the fraud on the accused's mobile phones.

Devotes offered prayers and greeted each other. Inspector general (operations) Michael Raj said, "No untoward incident has been reported so far." "Police are keeping a watch on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and WhatsApp. Any individual found circulating rumours or communal content will face strict legal action," he added. Hazaribag additional SP cum DSP (Headquarters). Amit Kumar Anand said, "No untoward incident was reported from any corner of the district. Proper security arrangements were in place at all mosques."

Investment fraud, Mangaluru resident looses over ₹24 lakh
A city resident lost ₹24.22 lakh to online investment fraud. In a compliant to Cyber Crime, Economic Offenses, and Narcotics (CEN) station, the victim said in March he saw an advertisement related to trading on Instagram. On clicking the link, it led to Fyers Market discussion group on Whatsapp. One Sharon Trivedi sent him link of Fyersplus application. The victim downloaded the application and started transferring money related to different growth schemes on the app. Similarly, he also started investing in the schemes offered by Zeroda Trading company. In all the victim invested ₹24.22 lakh between April 21, 2024 and May 31, 2025. When he asked for return of invested amount, he was asked to pay income tax and commission charges. After paying the charges, fraudsters demanded deposit of 10% of the invested amount as security deposit for return of the invested amount. Realising that he has been cheated, the victim filed compliant seeking action against Fyers Market and Zerodha trading firms.
