‘The White Lotus' creator Mike White is coming back to ‘Survivor'
Mike White seems to love an island getaway — the filmmaker and creator behind the HBO drama 'The White Lotus' is headed back to 'Survivor' for the show's 50th season.
White was among the 24 all-star cast members announced Wednesday. The season will feature previous contestants, including Jenna Lewis-Dougherty, who appeared on the show's first season in 2000, all competing for a $1 million prize.

Sweet start to summer at Pekin Public Library's Candy Land Adventure
PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) — Summer kicked off in the sweetest way at the Pekin Public Library, where more than 500 people and families stepped into a life-sized game of Candy Land. The event was the library's Summer Adventure Kickoff Party, and was one of the largest turnouts in the library's history. Library staff say the goal was to spark joy, bring the community together, and encourage a love of reading as summer begins. 'It's very important because then they can keep up on their reading skills,' said Catrina Klassen, Head of Youth Services at Pekin Public Library. 'So then when they go into the school year, next year they're ready to go. And then teachers don't have to go back and re-teach some of those skills so that they can keep up on those skills throughout the summer.' The event was held on Saturday, May 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., which had the library transformed into a colorful, candy-themed wonderland to launch its annual Summer Reading Program with imagination and excitement. Children followed a rainbow path through the library, picking up their Summer Reading Game Cards and exploring a magical land of sweet surprises. Families enjoyed a day packed with fun, including a bouncy house, balloon artists, interactive games, and meet-and-greet moments with Sonic and Mario, adding to the excitement for kids of all ages. Klassen also explained the motivation behind this year's program theme. 'Illinois does like a summer reading theme for all the libraries, so 'Level Up' was the whole thing for the state of Illinois, which I think is a great motivator because kids love games. So this is a great way to get them to want to read.' Whether bouncing, reading, or racing through Candy Land, families left with big smiles — and even bigger stacks of books. ‘Resolved peacefully': Madison Heights barricaded gunman over, city says
The city of Madison Heights says a barricaded gunman situation on 13 Mile is over after the suspect surrendered peacefully. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office confirmed SWAT was called to a barricaded gunman in Madison Heights, near 13 Mile and John R. The call came in around 2 p.m. in Madison Heights where a man barricaded himself inside an apartment at Madison Woods West. The sheriff said it was called to the scene about an hour later. At 4 p.m., the city of Madison Heights said the situation was over and had been "resolved peacefully." "The subject is in custody, and the situation has been resolved without injury. The area around 13 Mile and John R is now clear," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said on social media. No other details were released. This is the second standoff in metro Detroit in the past 24 hours. On Friday, police in Allen Park were called to a gas station where a man armed with a knife was barricaded inside. Authorities ultimately pulled the door open and were able to arrest the man without anyone getting hurt.

Man sues Walt Disney World over Florida water slide's ‘exhilarating speeds'
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Walt Disney World is facing a lawsuit after a man was hurt on a high-speed water slide at its Blizzard Beach water park, according to a complaint filed Thursday. The lawsuit claimed that the man, Eugene Strickland, had visited the water park in July 2021 to try out the Downhill Double Dipper slide. According to the lawsuit, Strickland weighed about 334 pounds at the time, exceeding the slide's weight limit of 300 pounds. He accused Walt Disney World of negligence and failing to maintain safe premises. He argued that Disney had a responsibility to fix the water slide's 'dangerous conditions.'
