Couturier Syomirizwa Gupta brings after-party allure to KL Fashion Week with ‘The Sweetest Hangover'

Yahoo2 days ago
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — Midnight may signal the end of a formal evening for some, but for local fashion designer Syomirizwa Gupta, it is where the real story begins.
His latest bespoke collection, The Sweetest Hangover 2026/27, unveiled on August 8 at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, captures the heady, unguarded glamour of the hours after a black-tie affair — when the ties are loosened, the lights dim, and style remains sharp even as the rules fall away.
'It's about that delicious blur between the night you remember and the one you'll never forget,' Syomir told Malay Mail, describing the collection as 'the afterglow, the laughter, the sparkle that lingers long after the music stops.'
Designed for both men and women, the pieces channel confidence without effort and seduction without excess. — Picture by Syomirizwa Gupta
The 25-look collection blends sleek tuxedo tailoring with fluid silks and playful, provocative touches — from tuxedo shirts paired with sequin underwear to a crisp all-white suit with risqué details only revealed up close. Designed for both men and women, the pieces channel confidence without effort and seduction without excess.
Fabrics range from silk satin and chiffon to heavy satin and brocade, while the palette is bold and unapologetic: white, black, fuchsia, magenta, orange, green and yellow — colours chosen to pop under low, late-night lighting.
Drawing inspiration from '70s disco sensuality and late-'90s Tom Ford sophistication, the line carries Syomir's signature tropical pulse, making each look feel as ready for the dance floor as it is for the runway.
With The Sweetest Hangover, Syomir invited KL Fashion Week guests into his vision of the ultimate after-party — one where the cocktails flow, the confidence soars and the glamour never fades.

Fashion label Imprint ZA partners with Women for Change in star-studded campaign

This Women's Month, the runway transforms into a rallying point for change. Fashion house Imprint ZA has joined forces with advocacy organisation Women for Change for a campaign that refuses to separate style from purpose. At the core of the campaign stand powerhouse women Zikhona Sodlaka, Pabi Moloi, Penny Lebyane and Lerato Sengadi, the initiative goes beyond the glamour of the catwalk. In the campaign, each ambassador wears a one-of-a-kind garment, custom-designed to honour her personal strength, journey and legacy. More than a runway moment For Imprint ZA founder and designer Mzukisi Mbane, this collaboration is deeply personal. 'I've always used my platform to advocate for issues I feel strongly about,' he says. 'I've seen first-hand the power, strength and resilience of women – but I've also seen their pain, victimisation and violation. This campaign is about recognising and empowering the women in my life.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by IMPRINT South Africa (@imprint_za) Known for emotive, deliberate and unapologetically powerful prints, Imprint ZA's work has always carried meaning. But this time, the message is urgent: women are not just statistics, victims or symbols – they are human beings. 'The world has victimised and isolated women for so long that people have forgotten they are human too,' Mzukisi says. 'They deserve soft love, a soft life, protection, support – to be seen, heard, valued. And above all, they deserve to live.' Balancing fashion with truth Blending couture elegance with unflinching social commentary is not new for the fashion brand. '[In 2024], at the Durban July, I collaborated with the HIV and AIDS organisation Forever Wena,' Mzukisi recalls. 'I created prints carrying HIV and AIDS educational symbolism, messages some saw as 'too much' for the public – but transformed them into garments that still resonated. For me, balance comes from sensitivity and thoughtfulness, making advocacy meaningful rather than performative.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kwenzo Ngcobo (@kwenzo_pholoba) Marvels of Mzansi: A print with a pulse This campaign also debuts a signature design Marvels of Mzansi, which a visual love letter to South African women across time, culture and legacy. The richly layered print features hand-sketched portraits of the four celebrity ambassadors, intertwined with faces of women from every walk of life, political trailblazers, human rights defenders, music and film icons, and everyday heroines. Among the women is Mzukisi's own mother. Beyond Women's Month For the designer, this is more than a seasonal campaign. It's a statement that advocacy and artistry can live in the same space – that fashion can confront injustice without losing beauty. 'For me, advocacy is not an accessory,' Mzukisi says. 'It's woven into the fabric of what I do.'

The Top Fall 2025 Color Trends, From Powder Pink to Mocha Brown

Naturally, as the days grow shorter and the air turns crisper, the season's color trends invite a richer, more decadent palette into our wardrobes, often stemming directly from the runways. The fall/winter 2025 color trends capture the season's duality of bold self-expression and cozy warmth. But it's not all net-new: several colors from spring/summer 2025 are still going strong. The wispy, powdery blush that evolved from 2023's Barbie pink remains relevant for fall. A rich, chocolate-y brown (coined by Pantone as 'Mocha Mousse') also maintains a strong presence this season with many designers, from Fendi to Saint Laurent, opting for tonal suiting and unexpected pairings—alongside pale greens and purples seen at Prada and Gucci. Siren red holds fast, popping up in full looks at Fforme and Acne Studios, but also as striking flashes at Ferragamo and Tod's. Even those who prefer to abstain from color can still find ways to incorporate trending hues into their day-to-day rotations. Slime green works as a neutral in itself, and the same can be said for the sea of blues dominating the collections—from pastels to cobalt—which work easily with whites, creams, beiges, and browns. Below, we break down the defining fall/winter 2025 color trends—and the pieces to purchase to stay in the know. Photo: Carven, Jil Sander, Prada Powder Pink Pink continues to retain a light touch. Strong yet girly—this pink has spanned Khaite, Alaïa, Miu Miu, and Loewe. This softer, more delicate shade is endlessly versatile, appearing in both feminine and modern styles, from romantic dresses to structured tailoring. Alaïa ruched jersey mini dress $3,750 NET-A-PORTER Bottega Veneta Mini Solstice intrecciato leather hobo bag $2,300 NORDSTROM Photo: Ferragamo, Fforme, Jil Sander Chili Pepper Red We're gearing up for yet another siren red fall and winter. The vibrant maraschino hue was spotted in striking, head-to-toe monochromatic looks from a plethora of designers, like Altuzarra, Calvin Klein, Ashlyn, Christopher John Rogers, Fforme, Acne Studios and Sergio Hudson. The best part? It can easily be worn with black and white for a bold statement, or tempered against grey and navy. Photo: Fendi, Gucci, Prada Mocha Brown Every year, Pantone declares the color of the next 12 months ahead; a hue to define the mood and set the tone, if you will. For 2025, it's a subdued kind of chocolate brown, aptly named mocha mousse. Give it a go with Prada's pajama-style shirt, Gucci's suede shoulder bag, or Khaite's Western-inspired Clive boot. Photo: Skall Studio, Bally, Stella McCartney Shades of Blue In 2025, blue is trending in assorted shades, providing a blend of tranquility and tenderness. Key shades include icy blues, cobalt, and cyan. These tints are universal, varying from faint and serene to decadent and assertive, and they can be styled in many ways for a contemporary yet traditional look. Photo: Tory Burch, Bally, Marni Slime Green Not quite forest, nor full-on Brat Summer, this version of lime green rivals that of Tom Ford's Fall 2018 runway show. The key to wearing it? Use it as a grounding neutral among beige, black, brown, and white. Photo: Dries Van Noten, Colleen Allen, Tom Ford Electric Aubergine For the person who prefers their fall/winter colors as dark as the season's essence, this one is for you. Electric purple showed up on the runway in a draped top at Dries Van Noten, a backless gown at Colleen Allen, and button-up blouses at Tom Ford. Go head-to-toe and wear Khaite's Keefe top with a pair of satin Dries trousers, or use it as a punchy statement separately.

Forget the Steam Deck, this 12.5-inch handheld can play games at 4K 100FPS

TL;DR A modder has created a handheld gaming PC with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. The handheld's display is 12.5 inches with a 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. It's capable of running God of War (2016) in 4K resolution at 100FPS. Handheld gaming PCs are getting more powerful all the time. However, they still can't replace the level of performance you get from a full-on gaming laptop. Or can they? One modder has taken that idea and put it to the test. A Bilibili creator who goes by Qingchen DIY has built a giant 12.5-inch handheld gaming PC (h/t El Chapuzas Informatico). But it's not the size that's impressive, it's the fact that the modder fitted it with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. Along with that high-end GPU, there's also a 24-core Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU. The system is also equipped with a 12.5-inch IPS touch display with a 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels), 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and 2TB of storage. It's safe to say that the power behind this device easily surpasses the top names in the market, like Valve's Steam Deck and ASUS' ROG Ally X. You could even say this system is more of a laptop that was simply converted into a handheld. But what can this beast of a handheld actually do? In the video, the modder shows the device running Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K resolution at 60FPS. That's not bad considering that other handhelds tend to struggle running the title at just 1080p, with upscaling technologies helping out. What's even more impressive is that at one point, the modder shows the device running God of War (2016) in 4K at above 100FPS. As you can imagine, this is likely a pretty power-hungry device. It appears this device relies on an external power source. However, it does also have a built-in 50Wh battery. While it would be fun to give this system a try, we'll probably stick with our Steam Deck. A 12.5-inch handheld would be a bit unwieldy for most hands. Follow
