Eagles manager not wanting to put pressure on players amid long winning streak
Their winning streak is all everyone in the KBO wants to talk about -- well, almost everyone.
With the Eagles trying to stretch their streak to 10 games against last-place Kiwoom Heroes on Friday in Seoul, their manager Kim Kyung-moon said the winning streak was the last thing he wanted to discuss.
"It's obviously nice to go on a winning streak but I think it puts so much pressure on the players," Kim said in his pregame session at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. "I'd like to ask the media not to talk so much about our streak. If the manager talks about that in the media, then the players who see that will get stressed out."
The Eagles had earlier won eight straight games. And after dropping two games in a row, they began the current streak.
They have not won 10 straight games since 1999.
The Eagles have a dominant starting rotation, featuring Cody Ponce, the KBO's Player of the Month for the March-April period who leads the league with 66 strikeouts, and former major league ERA king Ryu Hyun-jin, the definition of a crafty lefty.
But Kim insisted it hasn't just been the starters behind the team's winning ways.
"Our bullpen has been excellent," he said. "And our position players have run the bases well and have made great plays on defense. And we've always had someone step up in key moments and deliver. Everything has been going well."

KBO's new check-swing challenge system to take effect this week
Beginning Tuesday, teams in South Korean baseball will be able to ask for video reviews on check-swing calls. The Korea Baseball Organization said the check-swing challenge system will take effect across the league Tuesday, about a month after the league's executive committee, made up of general managers of the 10 clubs, reached the decision to implement the new rule. The KBO had initially planned to introduce the check-swing challenge at the start of the 2026 season, after testing it out in this year's Futures League, the KBO's minor league. However, several managers have been calling for a prompt implementation of this system, citing the need for accurate and transparent calls. If the end of the bat crosses a line parallel to the front side of the home plate, it will be ruled a swing. The batting team can only challenge a swing call, and the pitching team can only ask for a review of a no-swing call. Teams will each have two opportunities to ask for a video review on check-swing calls, and they will be awarded another opportunity in extra innings. If teams are successful in overturning the original call, then they will retain their challenge. The KBO said its own cameras, not broadcast feeds, will be used for reviews. Bunt attempts cannot be challenged. Only managers will be allowed to ask for challenges and they must do so within 30 seconds of the call -- within 10 seconds if the original call ended an inning or the game. However, if a pitch has already been thrown within those time limits, then managers will not be allowed to ask for a review. The KBO said it tested the system by reviewing close check-swing calls from recent games and that it expects the new rule to enhance accuracy and transparency on the field. If video replays do not turn up clear evidence to overturn the original call within three minutes, then the ruling on the field will stand. If an overturned decision results in a strikeout on an uncaught third strike, then the batter will be ruled out without a tag on him or a throw to first base. According to the KBO, the US minor leagues have the same rule on the dropped third strike. However, if the ball not caught for a third strike goes out of play, then the batter and all the other runners aboard will each be allowed to take a base. (Yonhap)

Son Heung-min draws penalty for LAFC in MLS debut
Son Heung-min marked his Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) debut with a strong performance as a second-half substitute in an away match, drawing a key penalty that led to his team's equalizer. Son came off the bench in the 61st minute to replace David Martinez for his first Major League Soccer (MLS) match against Chicago Fire FC at SeatGeek Stadium Bridgeview, Illinois, on Saturday (local time), as LAFC fought back for a 2-2 draw. Some 10 minutes after firing a weak left-footed shot from outside the box in the 67th minute, Son made his presence felt, with LAFC trailing 2-1. California dreaming: Son Heung-min wants to go down as legend for LAFC
Having just completed a decadelong career in England as a veritable legend for his former club, South Korean football star Son Heung-min says he now wants to go down as a legend for his new club too. Son was unveiled as the newest member of Los Angeles Football Club in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The Major League Soccer club said they had acquired Sonny, as he is widely known, on a permanent transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League through 2027 with an option for 2028 and an additional option through June 2029. Son ended his 10-year Spurs tenure as the fifth-best scorer in club history with 173 goals in 454 matches in all competitions. He won the Premier League Golden Boot as its top goal scorer for the 2021-2022 season, and only three months ago, he captained Tottenham to the UEFA Europa League title and ended the North London club's 17-year trophy drought. Now 33, Son said he will embrace new challenges that lie ahead. "There is no guarantee that I will play well here, just because I had success in Europe. I am getting a fresh start, and my dream is to finish my time here as a legend," Son said at his introductory press conference at BMO Stadium. "Many people in the ownership group put in so much work to bring me here. I always want to give back what I receive, and that's just the way I've lived my life. When the time comes to leave the club, I want to be called a legend on my way out." Son revealed that LAFC "was not my first choice" as his next destination after his 2024-2025 Premier League season ended, with his status for the next season -- the final one of his contract -- in doubt. The playing calendars in Europe and MLS are different. Tottenham just played a preseason match in Seoul on Sunday for Son's final match and will kick off their new season next week. The MLS regular season, though, kicked off in February. Son will have to jump onto a moving train, but he dispelled any concerns about his fitness. "I just had a good preseason, and I don't think people should worry about my physical condition," he said. "We have some paperwork to take care of.
