Suvendu Adhikari flags 70,000 new voter applications, alleges plot to enrol illegal immigrants in West Bengal
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari has written a letter to the Election Commission of India over the alleged increase in voter registration applications (70,000), urging the poll body to exclude domicile certificates, allegedly issued after July 25, if the SIR is implemented in West Bengal. Adhikari said the huge rise in Form 6 submission and reports of domicile certificates issuance, raised concerns about the state government's 'unethical and illegal efforts' to facilitate the 'legitimising of the infiltrating Rohingya Muslims and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants' to manipulate voter lists. Posting a copy of a letter, which Adhikari wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on July 26, the BJP leader wrote on X, 'A disturbing trend has emerged in West Bengal's border districts. Over 70,000 Form-6 applications have been submitted on average in the last week, a sharp rise from the usual 20,000-25,000, especially in Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Malda, North Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Nadia, and North & South 24 Parganas districts.' Form-6 is used for registering as a new voter for the first time." Live Events 'This directive for the issuance of Domicile Certificates coincides with an alarming increase in the filing of Form-6 applications for Voter Registration, particularly in these border districts, which is a clear cut proactive attempt to dilute the prospective Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, if held in West Bengal,' Adhikari expressed concern in the letter. 'There is apprehension that these applications may involve Rohingya Muslims and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, potentially supported by the directive to issue Domicile Certificates to facilitate their enrolment in Voter Lists. Given the sensitivity of the matter, I urge the Election Commission to take preventive measures,' the letter read. 'The integrity of our Democracy must be protected and can't be allowed to get diluted for vested interests of Vote Bank Politics. The District Election Officers must remember that they are entrusted with the responsibility of conducting free and fair elections, and their allegiance is with the country and protecting the interests of the country,' he wrote. Adhikari has said the Bengal BJP would take to the streets from August 17 demanding a 'Rohingya-free Bengal'. While Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that the Rohingya presence is absurd as the BJP leaders have claimed existence of 17 lakh Rohingyas in Bengal while there are hardly seven lakh who had come to Bangladesh.

Operation Sindoor debate: Word 'tamasha' from Congress MP Praniti Shinde's speech in Lok Sabha expunged
The word 'tamasha' used by Congress MP Praniti Shinde in her speech in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on Operation Sindoor has been expunged from the official records of Parliament. Earlier on Monday, Congress MP Praniti Shinde called Operation Sindoor a "tamasha" by the government, claiming it was more of a media show than a real success. Operation Sindoor was nothing but a 'tamasha' of the government in the media. No one is telling us what was achieved in this Operation. How many terrorists were caught? How many fighter jets did we lose? Who is responsible and whose mistake is this? This should be answered by the government..." The power to expunge remarks from parliamentary proceedings rests with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The Speaker has the discretion to remove words or usages deemed inappropriate or irrelevant to the debate. When a term is expunged, it is removed from the official records of Parliament and cannot be reported by media houses. Live Events Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh targeted the opposition in the Lok Sabha, accusing them of prioritising the wrong questions during the opening debate on Operation Sindoor. Replying to the questions raised by the Opposition during the Parliament monsoon session about possible Indian aircraft losses, Singh said that their questions did not represent the national sentiments. Operation Sindoor was carried out in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people on April 22 this year. India targeted nine terror hubs across Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and Pakistan and neutralised over 100 terrorists. After the May 7 operations, India and Pakistan reached a cessation of hostilities understanding on May 10.

There's a shooter in the lobby: How Blackstone staff communicated and warned each other during shooting spree in Midtown Office that killed an employee
Image source: AP A gunman armed with a rifle killed four people at a New York office tower on July 28. As per a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, a Blackstone employee is among those killed in the Midtown firing incident. As the incident unfolded, Blackstone staff reportedly used email and Microsoft Teams to alert colleagues about the active shooter and urge them to stay away from lower floors. An unnamed employee told the publication that workers relied on internal messages to quickly share warnings and updates during the chaos. According to reports, the Manhattan building houses KPMG US, investment company Blackstone's midtown office and the headquarters for the NFL. The WSJ report quotes KPMG spokesperson Russ Grote who said 'Our hearts go out to the victims of this horrific act and their families. We are incredibly grateful for the bravery of building security and law enforcement'. He then entered the 44-story building, turned right and immediately began opening fire on a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer. The officer, Didarul Islam, 36 was an immigrant from Bangladesh who had served as a police officer in New York City for nearly three years and 6 months, Tisch said. After killing Islam, Tamura opened fire at a woman taking shelter behind a pillar, the police informed. He then began 'spraying' the lobby with gunfire, making his way to the elevator by killing a security guard. Tamura then took the elevator to the 33rd floor, the site of Rudin Management, and "began walking the floor, firing rounds as he traveled." "He then proceeds down the hallway and shoots himself in the chest," Tisch said. Boat Aavante Prime 5.1 5000DA soundbar review: DOLBY ATMOS POWER! AI Masterclass for Students.
