Sri Ram Sene stages protest in Dharwad over Janivara issue
Sri Ram Sene members staged a protest in Dharwad on Sunday saying that some police personnel had cut the Janivara or sacred thread of a candidate appearing for the CET in Dharwad recently.
The police stopped some activists who tried to storm the Sub-Urban Police Station. The protestors said that the police on duty forced Nandan Vivek, a student from Raghavendra Nagar, to remove his sacred thread and then, cut it before allowing him to appear for the CET.
The police, however, denied the charge. The protestors blocked the Dharwad- Belagavi Road for some time. The police took some protestors into custody, cleared the road and released them later.
Some members of various Brahmin organisations staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Dharwad. They said that this action has deeply hurt the Brahmin community. They demanded action against examination officers and the police.
Sri Ram Sene founder Pramod Mutalik visited the house of the candidate and interacted with the family.
He later told reporters that some people from the Brahmin community are preparing to approach the High Court against the action of some police and examination duty personnel who forcibly removed the sacred thread of some candidates appearing for the CET.
It has happened in Shivamogga, Bidar and Dharwad. The Congress government is trying to stop rank-winning students from appearing for the CET. This is not acceptable. The government should realise that it is not just Brahmins who wear the sacred thread. Several other communities also do it. The rule that such things cannot be worn by candidates is stupid and meaningless. How can you use the sacred thread to copy? What kind of electronic devices can be attached to the thread? he asked.
To a query, he said that such practices should be stopped during examinations conducted by the Central and State governments.
Mr. Mutalik said that several students have complained to him that they were asked to remove not only Janivara but also Lingadakai. 'Some girl students said that the wrist thread, hairbands and hair clips too were removed, which demoralised them while writing the CET. All this is meaningless,' he said.
Mr. Mutalik said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's silence over the issue is not acceptable. 'The Chief Minister should tell us how his government is going to give justice to students who were denied entry to the examination halls in various towns and cities,' he said.
Meantime, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. said that she has directed the Deputy Director of Pre-University Education to hold an inquiry into the complaint of the student and submit a report.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are directly responsible for the tragic stampede that occurred at Chinnaswamy Stadium and its surroundings. Opposition Leader R Ashoka demanded that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a High Court judge probe the incident. Speaking at a press conference, he stated, 'We will not accept an investigation by the District Collector. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is being filed before the High Court Chief Justice. The investigation must be conducted under the supervision of a High Court judge, and a SIT should be formed for this purpose. The report must be submitted directly to the High Court. Justice must be delivered for all these deaths, and those responsible must be punished.' He criticised CM Siddaramaiah for evading responsibility by claiming it was a Cricket Association event and attempting to cover up his mistakes. Ashoka demanded that both CM Siddaramaiah and Dy CM D.K. Shivakumar take moral responsibility and resign. 'How can District Collectors, who work under the CM and report to him, conduct an impartial investigation? Karnataka High Court seeks detailed report on Bengaluru stampede by Tuesday
The Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to submit a comprehensive report detailing the circumstances that led to the stampede during the victory celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Authorities have been instructed to clarify who took the decision to organise the event, when it was made, and how it was formalised. Further, the Court has demanded information on the measures taken for traffic regulation and public crowd control, noting that there was a lack of proper planning. The court has also asked authorities to disclose the medical and other emergency measures arranged at the site and whether any immediate treatment was bench also questioned whether the organisers had anticipated the scale of the crowd. 'Was there a prior decision on the number of people expected to attend the event?' the Court addition, the Court has sought information on the time taken to transport injured individuals to nearby hospitals and whether any Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for managing large gatherings—especially those exceeding 50,000 people-were in the court has also said that the report must state whether the organisers had obtained official permission to hold the event and if so, from which authority and under what government has been given time until the next hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, to submit the report covering all nine points listed by the Karnataka government informed the High Court that the investigation into the stampede has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
