Sri Ram Sene stages protest in Dharwad over Janivara issue
Sri Ram Sene members staged a protest in Dharwad on Sunday saying that some police personnel had cut the Janivara or sacred thread of a candidate appearing for the CET in Dharwad recently.
The police stopped some activists who tried to storm the Sub-Urban Police Station. The protestors said that the police on duty forced Nandan Vivek, a student from Raghavendra Nagar, to remove his sacred thread and then, cut it before allowing him to appear for the CET.
The police, however, denied the charge. The protestors blocked the Dharwad- Belagavi Road for some time. The police took some protestors into custody, cleared the road and released them later.
Some members of various Brahmin organisations staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Dharwad. They said that this action has deeply hurt the Brahmin community. They demanded action against examination officers and the police.
Sri Ram Sene founder Pramod Mutalik visited the house of the candidate and interacted with the family.
He later told reporters that some people from the Brahmin community are preparing to approach the High Court against the action of some police and examination duty personnel who forcibly removed the sacred thread of some candidates appearing for the CET.
It has happened in Shivamogga, Bidar and Dharwad. The Congress government is trying to stop rank-winning students from appearing for the CET. This is not acceptable. The government should realise that it is not just Brahmins who wear the sacred thread. Several other communities also do it. The rule that such things cannot be worn by candidates is stupid and meaningless. How can you use the sacred thread to copy? What kind of electronic devices can be attached to the thread? he asked.
To a query, he said that such practices should be stopped during examinations conducted by the Central and State governments.
Mr. Mutalik said that several students have complained to him that they were asked to remove not only Janivara but also Lingadakai. 'Some girl students said that the wrist thread, hairbands and hair clips too were removed, which demoralised them while writing the CET. All this is meaningless,' he said.
Mr. Mutalik said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's silence over the issue is not acceptable. 'The Chief Minister should tell us how his government is going to give justice to students who were denied entry to the examination halls in various towns and cities,' he said.
Meantime, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. said that she has directed the Deputy Director of Pre-University Education to hold an inquiry into the complaint of the student and submit a report.

Bengaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje demands 'Allu Arjun-like' arrests over Chinnaswamy stampede
Bengaluru North MP and BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje has launched a scathing attack on the Karnataka government following the tragic stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 11 people dead. She questioned the accountability of top state leaders and drew a sharp comparison with actor Allu Arjun's controversial arrest in a similar incident in Telangana. Also Read - 'Doesn't listen to anyone': Nikhil Kamath recalls what a politician said about suspended Bengaluru top cop B Dayananda Addressing reporters, Karandlaje referred to the December 2024 stampede during a screening of Pushpa 2, where a woman lost her life. "In Telangana, the government arrested Allu Arjun from his home following the incident. Why is the Karnataka government not taking similar action here?" she asked. "Should we arrest Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar for this tragedy?" she added, accusing the state leadership of prioritizing political optics over public safety. She further criticised the government's decision to order an inquiry headed by the Bengaluru Urban District Commissioner, expressing doubts over its impartiality. 'How can a bureaucrat investigate his own political bosses? If the collector finds lapses by Siddaramaiah or DK Shivakumar, will he have the courage to hold them accountable?' Karandlaje asked. She called for an independent investigation, led by retired High Court judges, to ensure transparency and justice. The BJP MP alleged that the Congress-led state government was more focused on "hijacking credit" for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL victory than ensuring crowd safety. 'The administration was desperate to share the spotlight with RCB players. In the process, they ignored basic precautions,' she said. Also Read - Why was RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosale arrested? In the aftermath of the incident, several senior police officials have been suspended, including former Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda. On Friday, police arrested Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of RCB, in connection with the chaos outside the stadium on June 4 during the victory celebrations. The Karnataka government is now facing mounting pressure, with critics demanding not just bureaucratic action, but political accountability as well.

Institute HC-led probe, not Dist Collector's investigation: LoP
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are directly responsible for the tragic stampede that occurred at Chinnaswamy Stadium and its surroundings. Opposition Leader R Ashoka demanded that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a High Court judge probe the incident. Speaking at a press conference, he stated, 'We will not accept an investigation by the District Collector. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is being filed before the High Court Chief Justice. The investigation must be conducted under the supervision of a High Court judge, and a SIT should be formed for this purpose. The report must be submitted directly to the High Court. Justice must be delivered for all these deaths, and those responsible must be punished.' He criticised CM Siddaramaiah for evading responsibility by claiming it was a Cricket Association event and attempting to cover up his mistakes. Ashoka demanded that both CM Siddaramaiah and Dy CM D.K. Shivakumar take moral responsibility and resign. 'How can District Collectors, who work under the CM and report to him, conduct an impartial investigation? They were responsible for planning the event, finalizing its framework, and making preparations. It's impossible to believe they would honestly investigate the government's lapses and errors. Deceiving the public and causing deaths is bad enough—why are they now resorting to self-deception and adding to their sins? Only a judicial probe can deliver justice to innocent lives and their parents. The Congress government must not stoop to such pettiness even in the face of death,' he asserted. Attempt to reap the benefits of others' success While everyone claims the credit, people are questioning whose fault it is. The stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium was a government-sponsored tragedy. This disaster occurred due to the Congress leaders' mistake of trying to capitalize on someone else's success. Ashoka alleged that their poor decisions led to the deaths of engineers, doctors, and children, reflecting the state government's administrative failures. 'Those who celebrated by lifting the cup and posing for photos didn't show up to carry the bodies of the innocent victims. Those who took selfies at the airport didn't visit the homes of the deceased to shed tears. Those who honoured cricketers with turbans and garlands didn't come to put soil on the graves of the dead. In this heartless government, the lives of ordinary people have no value,' he said. After an event at Vidhana Soudha, another program was organized at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The IPL chairman clarified that they had no information about the event's organization. The IPL chairman and KSCA are not at fault here. 'Then who brought the RCB team to Vidhana Soudha? The government must answer,' Ashoka demanded. Why were police deployed? After the match, police controlled the crowd of fans everywhere. By the time they finished, it was past midnight. The same police were redeployed for duty the next day. They reportedly refused to provide security for the event, but the government issued forceful instructions. The area is restricted due to the High Court's presence, yet people even climbed onto the court premises. 'The government showed utter foolishness in holding an event in such a place. Despite this, CM Siddaramaiah claims he didn't know so many people would gather. This shows a complete lack of common sense,' Ashoka lashed out.T he CM held a press conference to claim it wasn't his fault. The police department had no information about who was organizing the event, where to allow people, or where to place barricades. 'Even for small events, we arrange ambulances and doctors. For such a large crowd, more ambulances should have been provided,' he said. A person named Poornachandra died at 3:45 pm, a girl named Divya at 4:38 pm, and another person at 4:41 pm. People were trampled to death even before the event began. Ministers and their families were busy taking photos with cricketers. 'Innocent youth were sacrificed for the ministers' photo shoots. The event should have been canceled immediately upon learning of the deaths,' Ashoka said.
