Operation Muskaan XI: Hyd'bad gears up to tackle child exploitation
In a recently held meeting with stakeholders, conducted by P Vishwa Prasad, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crimes, it was decided that 28 Divisional Teams would be constituted across Hyderabad City to ensure the operation's effective execution. Each team comprises one Sub-Inspector and four Head Constables/Police Constables (including at least one woman officer), all specially trained and sensitised for handling children in need of care and protection and for tracing missing children via the Darpan App. These teams will work in close coordination with officials from the Labour, Education, and Welfare Departments, as well as NGO partners such as Childline and Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
Furthermore, it was emphasised that all rescued children would be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for appropriate rehabilitation measures.
The roles of District Child Protection Units (DCPU) and Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) were also discussed to streamline rescue and follow-up procedures.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women Safety Wing, reiterated the Hyderabad City Police's commitment to child safety, the prevention of exploitation, and the development of a child-friendly ecosystem through inter-agency collaboration and community participation.
The public is urged to actively report instances of child labour, trafficking, or missing children to the police or Childline (1098), thereby contributing to this noble mission of safeguarding the future of our children.

He stated that his government was prepared to take all necessary steps to ensure justice and compassion for children, not only in courts but also at police stations, child centres and at every stage of the process. Addressing the inaugural session of the State-Level Stakeholders' Consultation Meet – 2025 on Voice for the Voiceless: Rights and Protection of Children of Sexual Abuse, the chief minister said the POCSO Act and Juvenile Justice Act were progressive legal instruments, but they present challenges. 'We must ensure procedures help child victims, not hurt them. We must also work to end child pornography and impose strict punishments,' the chief minister said. Supreme Court Judge Justice Surya Kant said the child protection framework in the country remains fragmented and inadequately equipped. He called for a shift in approach, one that treats the child not as a passive witness in a criminal trial but as a person in need of sustained and holistic care. 'The work is far from complete until children experience meaningful restorative justice, where the systems meant to protect them do not retraumatise them,' he said. Justice Surya Kant stressed that the system should prioritise the healing of children both within and outside the courtroom while ensuring accountability. He added that justice for a child begins not in the courtroom but the moment the child feels safe and secure in their environment. Reintegration, the judge said, should be the foundation of the response, not an afterthought.

State govt giving top priority to protection of children: CM
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy emphasised that all kinds of legal protection should be provided to child victims from sexual harassment. Addressing the State Level Meet -2025 on POCSO here on Saturday, the CM said that the government has already launched the 'Bharosa' project for the protection of girls and 29 centres which are already functioning in the State. The centres are providing legal and medical aid, and counseling through police to the victims. Stating that Telangana became the first State to launch child-friendly courts through the Hyderabad-based Bharosa Centre in the country, the Chief Minister said that the centres are not only resolving cases expeditiously but also taking necessary steps for complete protection and instill confidence among children for their development. Highlighting the importance of the strict implementation of the POCSO Act and Juvenile Act, CM Revanth Reddy, however, added, 'we are facing some hurdles in the enforcement of the Acts. These Acts are completely helpful in protecting the future of the victims without causing any harm.' The CM underscored the perpetrators should be dealt with strictly without showing any mercy towards those who abuse children through social media. Apart from the courts, the Chief Minister asserted that the State government is ready to take necessary steps to the strict enforcement of the child protection Acts with an aim to deliver justice at every stage. Children should get justice through all processes including police stations and child welfare centers. CM Revanth Reddy appealed to judges, police, child welfare committees and other partners to join hands with the government and strive for the protection of child rights. 'Justice means it is not just about awarding punishment but also protect the victim and giving a hope of a decent life' , the CM said that measures should also be taken ensuring child protection, due respect to them in society and lead a happy childhood life.

74 children rescued, 66 harassment cases booked in week-long drive by Cyberabad Women and Child Safety wing
In a week-long enforcement and outreach effort between June 29 and July 5, the Cyberabad Women and Child Safety Wing rescued 74 children, booked 66 individuals for indecent behaviour, and registered 23 cases under Operation Muskan-XI. According to officials, 69 of the rescued children were reunited with their families while five were admitted to shelter homes. Operation Muskan-XI teams also registered 23 FIRs across the commissionerate's limits. SHE Teams conducted 154 decoy operations during the same period and apprehended 66 individuals for harassing women and engaging in indecent acts at public places. Of these, 57 were booked under petty cases. Counselling sessions were organised for all the offenders. Additionally, the unit received 16 complaints from women and conducted 85 awareness programmes and five counselling sessions at the Women and Child Safety Wing headquarters. The Women Police Station at Gachibowli, which deals with domestic disputes, received 29 complaints over the week. Eleven cases were formally registered, and counselling is in progress for the remaining matters. The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) conducted awareness drives on issues including human trafficking, cyberbullying, child marriages, stalking, and harassment. Around 230 people attended these programmes. During operations, the AHTU team also rescued nine women sex workers and two transgenders. Meanwhile, the Bharosa Centre counselled 31 families in cases involving disputes between husband and wife, with efforts made towards reconciliation.
